Guest American Woman
To those who have responded positively, thank you. But I can't see myself subjecting myself to the claim that the U.S. had terrorist attacks coming to them whenever I'm scrolling through this board. I can't see myself staying on a board that would subject someone to that. The first rule of this board states: BE POLITE AND RESPECT OTHERS Mapleleafweb operates these forums in the hopes that they will promote intelligent, honest and responsible discussion. We encourage you to speak your mind on relevant issues in a thoughtful way. Please respect others using this board and treat them with respect and dignity. How is putting out the message that "the US had it coming" in every post treating Americans with respect and dignity? As I said before, if that is someone's opinion and they want to make a thread about it, that's fine. I can choose to open it or ignore it according to how worthwhile I think the thread will be. But to have to see that 'the U.S. had it coming' every time I'm on this board is over the top. I can put his posts on ignore, but I can't make his handle, and the message it conveys, disappear. I would feel the same way about someone using the handle JewsHadItComing, or IraqHadItComing, or any other innocent deaths being presented as the victims "had it coming." Like I said, having that viewpoint is one thing. Putting that message all over the board, subjecting people to it every time they frequent this board, is quite another. Seems to me the choice of one's handle should abide by the rules of the forum. Edited March 8, 2008 by American Woman
bush_cheney2004
You thought wrong. My choice of name comes from the name of a ship that I once sailed on. She was owned by Cunard lines. I did notice however, that she listed a little to left more often than she did to the right. While you didn't think at all. My forum name came from the 2004 US presidential election, a democratic voting process, and polital choice by millions of people. It's the same process that seems to attract some Canadians to the politics of another nation (e.g. "Canadians for Kerry"). Good point indeed. I winced when I first saw it. Insults should not be tolerated in any form. What's the difference if you post something insulting or use your handle to do it? capricorn
Get mad all you like but understand that your anger is the first step in the healing process. And above all have patience because it won't happen overnight. Now I get it. You're a failed psychiatrist. I try not to think of the US as our neighbour anymore and prefer to think of it as the land of the gun or the evil empire to our south. In less than 8 short years how things have changed! And Canada is still one of your best friends in the world. You sound like a very, very unhappy and maladjusted individual. Tell me, do you make and raise a fist when you post here? UShaditComing
Now I get it. You're a failed psychiatrist. You sound like a very, very unhappy and maladjusted individual. Tell me, do you make and raise a fist when you post here? I do hope you don't have children. Actually I had children and I ate them. But not before they could have grandchildren and I ate them too. But let's try to be serious now. My name is not insulting and it needn't be reported to the hate police but if Bush/Cheney wants to have a go at doing that then fill your boots. My name is simply a statement of fact. The attacks of 9/11 were revenge attacks against the US and nothing else. I think the only way anyone can possibly deny that is to be so patriotic for their country that it taints their peception of reality. I understand that perfectly. For example, if I chose to go and kill someone for some material goods that person has then I would become an enemy of his loved ones. If one of his came and muredered one of my family members in turn then it would be revenge but it wouldn't prevent me from irrationally hating that person and wanting more revenge in return. Even though it was me who started the killing in the first place. This is exactly the situation except that it is on a much larger scale. Osam has made that abundantly clear and you people can ignore him at your own peril. Therefore you Americans need to shoulder the responsibility for your evil deeds and accept this small insignificant token as punishment in small part. You have no power to assert your control over the thoughts of others unless it is a real and true expression of hate, which of course 'is' against the law. It clearly isn't because many books have now been written by Americans themselves expressing the exact same views. Learn to live with your guilt because you own it fully. And so: THE USA HAD IT COMING! Quote When the US stops killing them over there they will stop killing Americans over here.
bush_cheney2004
And so: THE USA HAD IT COMING! Hmmm...taking this to it's logical conclusion....then all attacks are justified by "revenge". Such an escalation only favors those with the will and means to exact revenge. And of course, you would fully support Canada getting its share of attacks, right? jbg
Are any of the people on this forum people who used to post on Sympatico or the CBC forum. Those two were closed down because they got too hot to handle and probably it had a lot to do with pressure to not hurt the feelings of Americans. Anybody here take part in those two?I was on both, actually. I had something, inadvertantly to do with the shutdown of the CBC forums. What was your handle on those? guyser
Get mad all you like but understand that your anger is the first step in the healing process. And above all have patience because it won't happen overnight. Seems you have a little problem with understanding sarcasm. Not surprised I suppose, what with a handle like yours it pretty much relegates you to be ignored as a tin foil hat wearer. I try not to think of the US as our neighbour anymore and prefer to think of it as the land of the gun or the evil empire to our south. In less than 8 short years how things have changed! And Canada is still one of your best friends in the world. I could just copy what I posted above this paragraph. As for me, I may have issues on US politics , policy, etc, but that does not manifest itself to insulting Americans . As a neighbour the people could not be finer. guyser
Obviously "USHadItComing" doesn't get it, guyser. And not likely to ever do so. The pool he swims in couldnt drown a fly. Anyway, I'd like to point out that I can ignore his posts. I can deal with anyone posting their opinion and then deciding if it's something I want to subject myself to or not. What I find I can't deal with is basically having to see that 'the U.S. had it coming' 50 times a day as I scroll through the posts. I didn't realize it was staying with me, but it is, and as such, I'm going to be leaving-- at least for awhile. Maybe later I'll be able to handle it, but right now it's too emotional to have to see that over and over and there's no way to ignore it. I don't know how the other Americans on the board feel, but for me this is over the top. Just wanted to explain where I'm coming from and why I won't be around. I understand . But I respectfully request you stick around . His existence here is only to agitate MLW and to insult America. Dont let the fact that his handle is crass and juvenile and totally lacking in any critical thought. Debate his posts, argue, counter post his idiotic ramblings, for given enough rope he will hang himself. Little kids always do that. This one is no different. To leave now means he wins this time around. If you stick around and debate him, you will find in time that he is not worthy of gettting upset about, and in the end his name will become nothing more than a bunch letters. It wont bother you when he has been castrated by his own stupidity. Stick around.

UShaditComing
I was on both, actually. I had something, inadvertantly to do with the shutdown of the CBC forums. What was your handle on those? Excellent! now let me guess. I haven't really paid much attention to what you have been saying but if I did I would make an educated guess. Here's a few names but some may be mixed up with the old Sympatico or the old CBC. Daryl Lazarescu, Saipan, JLG, Monty, Cynic, JWB Anderson, Ahy, Leiberman. I would love to talk to Cynic again because the guy was brilliant. I will never forget his absolute sureness of the fact that there would never be any WMD's found in Iraq. Man, I wish I had that knowledge and commitment to my beliefs. You can p.m. me with your name if you like and a brief description of what you had to say on some of the threads. Especially if you could name the most popular thread then I would know you are for real. And how about you naming some of the other names of people who posted on the two or either? Actually, after you said you had something to do with the shutdown of the CBC forum my guess is that you are one of the people who thought it was politically incorrect and damaging to Canada's image with the US. I know there was a lot of pressure on the CBC to do that. Btw, what was the mod's name. It started with a P. You have to know that if you're for real. UShaditComing
Here's another clue for you. One of the forums had a thread which ran into over a thousand posts if I remember correctly. It was called: Is it time ............................................ Can you finish that title? You would be a supporter of the Kosovo war if you are a leftie as I now see in your profile. You've got me interested now. For what it's worth, I strongly opposed that war. Guest American Woman
Interesting article about the CBC forum: CBC website bars use of the word "Jewish" A New York-based attorney who posts frequently said that the CBC began filtering the words "Jew," "Jewish" and "Israel" last year, after one of its message boards, devoted to Middle East issues, was deluged with anti-Semitic and anti-Palestinian comments. But such postings have not ceased entirely. "I've been called a "rabid Zionist," said the attorney, who posts under the handle JBG. "But if I decide to respond, even in the nicest, most polite way, I can't use the word "Jew." And I am a Jew. I have to make up a word instead. It's absurd." The word "dyke" is regularly used on the CBC forum to dismiss certain prominent Canadian women, among them a senior CBC television personality. The racial slur "Chinaman" has also been successfully posted. "What do you get when you cross a Chinaman with a Rabbi?" one frequent contributor joked last May. His post is still contained in the CBC message board files. Anti-Americanism is common. So along with everything else, anti-Americanism was common. And here we have USHadItComing praising this board as he's welcomed to it, with not a word from the mods/admin about his handle. I've given this a lot of thought, and while I wholeheartedly appreciate all the time Greg and Charles put into it, I think the level of this board, by allowing the handle "USHadItComing," took a real dive. If this handle is allowed, what next? What will this board turn into? I see "USHadItComing" and I see the face of a preschooler who was on one of the planes, on her way to Disneyland. Yep. She "had it coming." She and all the other innocents "had it coming." I know you said that by my leaving this 'poster' wins, guyser, and you made some good points (and I thank you for responding to my post/feelings; I will mull over all the points that you and others brought up), but at this time I'm still struggling with being part of a board that subjects me (and others) to the claim that the U.S. had it coming over and over again just by being on the board. I can't get the picture of that little girl out of my mind. At the same time, I have to wonder if the UK had it coming; if Spain had it coming; if Bali had it coming; if Thailand had it coming .... bush_cheney2004
The now defunct CBC forum was not as bad as it seems....on balance, and respecting the precarious position a government funded organization found itself, it worked quite well. I posted there for about two years, and found the selective and clumsy hate-speech barriers more comical than anything else. Even "Jesus Christ" was blocked. Blocking was easily defeated with hyphens or spaces. There was also a labour strike towards the end, straining moderator resouces. JBG's memory of events is better than mine, but we had all kinds of quirky events. Once, I was able to inject some html to post photos of Popeye the Sailor Man in the Arts section of the forum. Images had never been allowed for obvious reasons. Edited March 9, 2008 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
