  1. When faced with a difficult decision, do you tend to rely more on: 1. Rational thinking? or 2. Emotions? or 3. or do you have another answer? Has there been a time when you chose only by emotions and later regretted it? or maybe it turned out to be a great choice?
  2. Was reading a debate between @Moonbox and @CdnFox and wanted to start a Poll about it. What is your view about abstaining from a vote? Options: Good decision - I think abstaining is a valid choice and can be an effective decision in some cases, as a form of protest or other reasons. Bad decision - I think abstaining is a missed opportunity to make a meaningful contribution and voice one's opinion.
  3. Are you content with where you live, or do you dream of packing up and moving somewhere new? It's okay if you're not comfortable sharing your city, at least the country, it would be interesting to exchange views if you do share them. Name one thing that would make you move from your city or country! Do you have a destination? For me, I don't care, all you are getting is a country/city, no more details,😄 living in downtown Toronto, Canada, is great, but if the fast-paced lifestyle becomes too much, I might consider moving. A possible destination: the suburbs of Niagara Falls, or a radical choice would be to move somewhere in Europe, throw out all my technological equipment, and just fish for the rest of my days, would probably be a better mental state. Greece is top of my list, but most likely Niagara Falls suburbs would be my choice. I get to see the US daily.
  4. Have you ever made major life decisions based on the advice or guidance provided by horoscopes? Gemini: (May 21-June 20) - Adaptable, curious, intellectual, expressive, indecisive, and superficial. Cancer: (June 21-July 22) - Compassionate, emotional, sensitive, imaginative, moody, and clingy. Leo: (July 23-August 22) - Ambitious, generous, loyal, confident, arrogant, and dramatic. Virgo: (August 23-September 22) - Analytical, practical, reliable, hardworking, critical, and anxious. Libra: (September 23-October 22) - Diplomatic, romantic, charming, fair-minded, indecisive, and shallow. Scorpio: (October 23-November 21) - Intense, passionate, brave, secretive, jealous, and manipulative. Sagittarius: (November 22-December 21) - Adventurous, optimistic, intellectual, honest, reckless, and irresponsible. Capricorn: (December 22-January 19) - Responsible, disciplined, ambitious, patient, pessimistic, and stubborn. Aquarius: (January 20-February 18) - Independent, intellectual, humanitarian, unconventional, aloof, and unpredictable. Pisces: (February 19-March 20) - Compassionate, artistic, intuitive, gentle, escapist, and idealistic.
  5. Hi, My guest post on Judith Curry's blog has been posted here: http://judithcurry.com/2015/11/29/decision-making-under-uncertainty-maximize-expected-social-welfare/ This is a shorter version of a longer version here: https://curryja.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/expected-social-welfare-maximization-2.pdf The longer version has a lot more nuance, but I had to keep the word limit to around 4000 for the shorter version. If you want to make any comments on it, please post here. Expected social welfare maximization is a way to make decision making under uncertainty. This is especially applicable to climate change, where uncertainty is fairly high. Though it can be applied to pretty much any policy question, from immigration, to education, to healthcare.
