Two great topics in this week's Short-Cuts: 1. Montreal journalist bugged by police, with the compliance of the judiciary, seems to be a fishing expedition. With all of the concern about 'government surveillance' on here in the past, it's curious that not one person has posted about this. While I defended the Federal Government's power to surveil email and phone calls for security reasons, I acknowledged the likelihood of abuse. And here it is happening. The good news is that we at least have a paper trail, and the police are seeking warrants to do this. The bad news is that those warrants are granted. Why doesn't MLW care about this ? Given the hysteria about lost 'rights' in the past, the silence over this is indeed puzzling. I suspect that those who squawk the most about 'rights' enjoy speculating and shivering in fear over the 'New World Order' more than they enjoy following the actual news. http://www.canadalandshow.com/montreal-police-spy-on-journalist/ 2. Discussion about the CBC, the government, and the media. One idea I liked very much would be to have the CBC establish digital news bureaus regionally. This seems like a better fulfillment of their mandate than making expensive TV shows nobody watches.
