Canadians Paying for Our Own Brainwashing Propaganda
Army Guy replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Poser: This nation was built by many different people with many different back grounds, and trades or professions. that being said a special mention should be given to those that have contributed to this nation, by either putting thier lives at risk or dieing in the line of duty. And yes i agree totally that some slug behind a computer who's only contribution to this nation is paying taxes, does not have a right to judge those that have done so much more. Like i said before contributing to the greater good takes more than paying your taxes and voting every 4 years. What have you done to contribute to the greater good Poser. There is a loaded question, one that most Canadians could not answer, ask 1000 people and you will get a 1000 different answers. Case in piont do you think CB values are the same as yours. Not even close, perhaps a few are, but the majority of the are very different. So when it is said we are protecting Canadian values we are protecting all of them including yours poser, thats got to burn your ass, with a four foot flame. I'm curious how WWI and WWII wars are any different than say Korea and how did they assure us our rights and freedoms. One could also look at the Balkans, Afgan and ask the same question, or is it that we went because thats what Canadians thought was the right thing to do at the time... And sorry but i never heard of a deployment to Mayerthorpe, can you clue me in, as i'm interested... Actually you should take that up with the historians, many whom have quoted the opposite, in fact many will say that Canada became a nation after the battle for Vimy ridge, or it became into it's own same thing.. and the last time i checked, yep no computer geeks there...all military people, Canadian citizens doing that little bit extra in forging this great nation we have today...It would be ludicrous to say they the military did not play a major role in the forging of our nation... funny you mention willingly and unwilling Vimy ridge was fought on Apr 9 ,1917...Conscription or the Military services act was not passed until aug of that year, of the 99,561 troops conscripted only 24,100 actually fought at the front before the war ended. So although your comment is somewhat true, it should be taken in context that over 600,000 served in WWI and more than 500,000 chose to do so on thier own... One last question, above your quoted as saying that the military did not build this country, but the quote above you said WWI and WWII did assure our rights and freedoms, are our rights and freedoms not part of building this nation, or is this Poser double speak, i'm confused. So tell us poser where should we be, pick any spot in the world where you think the Canadian armed forces could be best deployed, and serve the interests of the Canadian people. Also keep in mind that it was the Canadian people that sent us over to afgan in the first place... Something else i want you to think about, is what is the world going to think of us as a nation if we pull out without completing the job,or upholding our NATO commitments or is it going to be added into our foreign policy to cut and run whenever we run into something that conflicts with our standards or moral's. -
I hope your not suggesting that is everything the liberals did with that SURPLUS, what of funding of some of crietien's legacy programs, etc etc. If paying down the debt was priority then that focus should have been maintained, and it was not. i'd be curious to find out what was each years surplus and how much of that was actually put on the debt. What rules did he break poser, letting the nation know the state of it's military ? speaking out for his dept is now bad...In some circles it's called leadership.

Poser: Covering tracks, attempts on spin, give me a break here ,Are you saying that the toronto suns story is false ? What would be thier motive to post a false story??? Why do you have a problem with the fact that the military already investaged this incident and found no fault, that it was a non story. Is it your total lack of trust in our military or our government ? To say that Amir Attaran is no stranger to controversy is a bit of an understatement. He's taken on the World Health Organization over malaria treatment, environmentalists over banning DDT and even Médecins sans frontières (Doctors Without Borders) over drug patents. the ANP routinely torture persons in their custody, particularly to extort confessions. Now that’s the Afghan government talking about the Afghan police, so what it amounts to is that when we transfer from Canadian forces to the Afghan police, we’re transferring to self-confessed torturers. It’s as simple as that. Jakob Kellenberger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, said last fall that Canadian troops in Afghanistan were respecting all the rules when taking prisoners. It would be disturbing, and surprising, if the inquiries found anything to the contrary. Now what happened after he started his investigation into what we did with Afghan prisoners, as his findings about the 3 abused men, were an incidental result of his investigation, there was NO mention or investigation of this prior by the military? This is the response he got from his first inquiry: According to Amnesty International, the U.S. military is known to maintain a prison at Bagram Air Base near Kabul and another at Kandahar Air Base. Unlike with Guantanamo, there has been no U.S. accounting of the prisoners held at those prisons. Nor is anything publicly known about what happens to captives handed over to the Afghan authorities. Not only with that, but with openly breaking the agreement the former Canadian government signed with Afghans specifically in these important areas and indeed we are now apparently breaking the Geneva Convention as well. Here are the segments of the agreement being broken -

daniel: Yes, the liberals did post record surpluses, but at what cost and to which depts, not to mention the taxpayers. So that is the excuse, they were criticized so they did not move on any enviroment issues. funny you mention that as the cons are being critized and have just put 1.5 bil towards the enviroment... And the fact that harper is the head of a minority government had nothing to do with that, or the fact polls show that Canadians want more focus on enviroment. or are you convinced that dion is that good. -
Figleaf: I would be the first one to agree with you our justice system needs an over haul. but on the same token no system is going to be 100% fool proof. So wrongful convictions will remain in any system. Are wrongful convictions high when compared to the actual number of cases tried. Do we really want a system where this happens, i think it's an extremily slippery slope, have the prosecuters lossing cases because they do not want to be held accountable...Criminals already have to many advantages, do they need another...

It appears that a few of the Military police personal are the ones that had intially made the report of handling the POWS roughly....an investagation was launched and found that they were not, infact those that made the complaint were given refresher training on the grounds it was thought they were no soft... Imagine that, perhaps we are not POW abusers after all...Thats got to bite eh poser... military investagation. -

Poser: Yes i can see clearly now.... my tin hat has fallen off, just to remind us again, what did the liberals do to meet any enviromental issues in thier 12 years of governance...how much was even spent on eviromental issues during the liberal reign of power....and some how the cons are hyprocrits ....where is my tin hat again.... -
Baylee: Why is it that just right wingers are for the death penality. here are some facts about the death penality. 1967 the death penalty was only used to execute those guilty of murdering of police and prison guards 1976 in was abolished altogether. 1987: When the motion to reintroduce capital punishment was announced in February of 1987, popular support for reintroduction stood at 73% . By June (when the parliamentary vote was taken), popular support had slipped to an all-time low of 61%, following widespread discussion of death penalty issues in the media. A motion to reintroduce capital punishment was debated in the House of Commons in 1987. On June 30, the motion was soundly defeated on a free vote (148-127), despite public opinion polls indicating majority support for the death penalty 1995; A national poll conducted in June, 1995 found that 69% of Canadians moderately or strongly favoured the return of the death penalty, exactly the same level of support as 20 years ago. However, other surveys suggest that this abstract support is 'a mile wide and an inch deep'. In 1996, a cross-section of 1500 Canadians were asked to name the major concerns and issues facing the country; not one named reinstatement of the death penalty as a priority i guess in 1987 and in 1995 there was alot of right wingers around. either that or your accusation is BS, which is it...

politics I just don't get it, All the other parties were crying even threatening the harper government because of thier enviroment policies , shit most Canadians agreed something needed to be done, it was our new number one concern of all Canadians...the Harper government changed thier direction on thier enviroment policies because of this...and now that they have dumped 1.5 bil...into those new policies, they are critised for thier spending habits...good call.. Lets make up our minds here...you want changes to our enviroment, but your not willing to put any money into it...or is it you just have to bitch and whine about everything the cons do, good or bad... As for the liberals paying down the dept, at what cost to other depts or instutions such as defense, health care, or giving monies to the provinces....paying down the debt is good, but not at slashing other programs that we need day to day..It's not something that should be looked upon as a great liberal victory, or accomplishment, but an example of how not to mange our countries finances. -

Poser: I have no problem with any group speaking out for improvements in afganistan, in fact the more the merrier. Also keep in mind i did not write the article just posted it, and those speaking out on the RAWA are ex RAWA members. That statement is kind of two faced is it not, i mean you have been for weeks discrediting DND and all of the work that our military has been doing in AFGAN. My intention was not to discredit your only source but to show it's not an end all to be all source. The link is not that damaging actually, it does report tha good and the bad. Now i'm a monkier, last week i was a murderer and prisoner abuser, i guess i'm moving up in the world.. I actually aplaud these women and thier fight for freedom , And no where in my post did i say they should be silenced, what i did say is they had nothing good to say about anything, when conditions have actually improved in thier country instead of giving some form of credit all they do is find fault. Much like yourself.. Oh and i just want to add this little tidbit since you brought it up, that the men and women of this country have been fighting and dying for it's freedom since the early 1800's. The same men and women that you have spent so much of your time trying to discredit... -

I think the RAWA needs to give credit where credit is do, i've been to there site and they have yet to report anything postive about anything....Using some of your own sources you are so fond of this is what the RAWA had to say about life under Taliban rule....pretty grim... RAWA RAWA And yet under NATO command conditions for the most part have improved over 500 % but no thank you no acknowledgement, just finding more faults this time about NATO... I found this article, about the RAWA, describe as a dramatic and militant afgan feminist group. report on RAWA. -
Poser; Actually our treason laws are quit clear, And some of the Kadr families actions do fit our defination of treason. which leads to this question is why have they not been charged ? perhaps FTA lawyer can field that one. treason I think there is a concenus that NO canadian citizen should serve in Gitmo, so lets just say for sake of argument we do secure his release, then what, let him go, charge him with treason, revoke his citizenship. and what message do we send the rest of the world for each one of those actions...i mean letting him go to live out his days collecting welfare, would be inviting for a terrorist to apply for Canadian citizenship, would it not.. Sending him back to afgan would also be sending a message that we do not tolerate is actions here in Canada.

Figleaf: The action that we have taken todate has been very sweeping, keep in mind NATO has just gotton serious about the south last year, already the taliban have been pushed out of areas altogether, or pushed to the sides. although still there it's in small numbers and they now longer control these areas. SO by 2009 anything can happen. Well according to the senators report we can't, but they under estimate our militaries will to get the job done....Yes under current levels the job is not imposiable it will just take longer to achieve. as for expenses more cash is needed from every where, but in the same token they need a means of distributing it, perhaps instead of cash, equipment can be purchased such as entire water and drilling systems, construction equipment, ambulances, fire trucks, etc etc. it's hard to scim profits off equipment already purchased, then delivered to a location. Truthfully it's all a pipe dream until more support is given to the mission, with out it , it will, as all issues fall off the fore front and onto yesterdays news pile....meaning all our effort, cash, and lives will be for nothing... And we will be discussing the next new fad or mission, and why we are there, sounded like a good idea at the time, what we need is to pick a mission and stay focused... And the people of Canada have to come to the conclusion that making peace, or rebuilding a nation is not a fast food service, it takes a very long time bils of dollars, and lots of lives...and if we are not willing to invest all that into each mission then we should concentrate on strictly defending our nation, it would be alot cheaper in the long run... -

Figleaf: Sorry,i was rushed by some real life problems, A win for me, would mean seeing western forces starting to pull out because the security sitation would allow that, See locals in the market with out automatic wpns would be a good sign, it would also mean allowing more emphisis on the re constrution side. i think the most important aspect is getting the government depts large enough to run there own areas of responsiabilty, which would allow them to deal with other problems such as the drug trade and warlords. I know this is hard to see with everything in the news , but everyday we are making progress just recently a unescorted media team has operated in the area around op madusa, without incident lucky or not it is a sign that this once Taliban dominated area is no longer controled by them. It's also going to be harder to see any progress this spring when the fighting resumes, i still think the Taliban are still a large concern in the south, and more fighting is expected. but they can not maintain this level for long periods of time... So my time frame for seeing marked improvements will be around 2009. As for how long it will last after western forces pull out, is just a guess, Afgan still has alot of major issues to deal with before it starts to become stable...Pakistan is one, the drug and war lords is another. Those issues will also take years to solve but if we pulled out now we will never see peace for some time... She has cliamed to have served in our countries military, to gain credibility on this forum, and to her outragous cliams. What proof do i have, there is lots of proof in her postings, for instance basic knowledge of how the military works, the regulations, lengths of postings, certain military postings "ie posts or bases" things that every basic soldier is taught and is expected to remember are just not there. Someone who spends a good portion of thier life learning a trade or a job, should remember the little things, and military training , trust me you do not forget, i've been doing this for 26 years and i still remember my basic training very clearly... Hence why i call her a poser, as that is what she is...posing as a military member, taking advantage of a the reputation that was earned by others thru hard work and great sacrifice... Is it again'st the rules i do not know..by the same token is it again'st the rules to proclaim something you are not... DO i like the fact that she is making these claims no not really, does it bother me, yes, but it does not keep me up at nights. i think i can handle it i'm a big boy, eventually everyone will see her for what she really is, a poser... -
Here is some movement from our government. I'd like to add that it is good to see movement from the banks and others on a postive note as well. My Webpage

Poser: Those numbers are not for the week but for the entire year....thats 2 entire roto's , and in case you missed it the first time i posted it's 365 days.... edmonton sun Actually numbers are down because the taliban have taken thier winter break. perhaps you can give us a link proving the numbers are up, What you mean is they increase over major operations such as madusa...go figure.. this has nothing to do with the old ROTO, read the damn news ....yes we are ready to go home, but we are well aware we are not done yet...but you've never been in combat what gives you the qualifications to judge any of these troops. why is it all your links have nothing to do with Canadian soldiers. Stop painting all NATO forces as the same. This is bullshit, i was on mudusa, and spents days on end killing these bastards, stepping over the dead, and smelling thier rotten stinking bodies, and although i never counted them personally they were every where, and most, if not all died fighting us... but because a reporter says it so , one that probablly never stepped foot on the battle field it must be true...but one one of our nations soldiers says something it's disregarded as government retoric and is dismissed...I can feel the love...give me a hug.. -

Figleaf: At our current state i think Afgan is still very winnable, I wish i could say, Bosina took over 16 years and this is far worst than that. to speed things up i really think NATO needs to step it up with more troops. Thats hard to say as well, maybe a year, the taliban are not that strong to pull that off right away, i think a major war or drug lord would step into that vaccuum. -

Poser: Your piont would be what ? let me make it for you...only two civilians have died this year in accidental shootings by canadian soldiers, out of the thousands of checks and fire fights we have been in.... and over 10 have been wounded thats out of 365 days of combat.... When have i or any other military member on this board said we are above the law, or approach ...don't talk about Canadian standards this nations military wrote that book, we live that book every day here ...don't preach to me behind your computer safe and sound ...the same security that big bad men that are in our military provide you and your ilk. what i did say is that if you don't trust those same people that provide that security then it's time for you to pack your bags. If this is really how you fullfil your time slandering those people that have sacraficed so much and have asked for nothing in return except your support ...i think you really need to get laid...instead of slandering those who you claim to be once part of... personally it's time for me to come home, not because i do not believe in the mission, not because i'm sick of you and your kind draging my name in the mud..not because i tied of your whinning about every little thing...but because my tour of duty will be coming to an end very very shortly. Canadian soldiers have nothing to be ashamed of we have carried out duties well above any standards set by our nation, NATO and the conventions of genva. We've assisted a nation in re building itself, helping bring peace to the southern half of afgan, what have you've done in the last 6 months poser... -

Poser: The key words in that statement are accused, not tried or convicted, just accussed. You have already made your mind up and have already convicted them. Why is that. This is your statement is it not ....What proof do you have, give me a link...give me a source...you don't have one or the findings would already be in the press....without proof you got shit...just false statements slandering the good names of those with balls enough to do a job aour country has asked them to do... And then you contradict yourself by posting your 2 and half of your post.... so which is it are we abusing prisoners or detainees or not make up your mind.... At the beginning of the mission we were handing over POW's to the Americans...the Canadian public freaked out after the stories came out of US prisoner abuses and they demanded we not hand any more to the US...infact it was decided to hand them over to the Afganis people ,thier elected government...since we are not equipped to handle POW's we hand them over to the Afganis, now your complaining about how they abuse approx 30 % of thier pows...perhaps a nice beach house in the bahamas, or better yet ship them to Canada. What you forget is these scumbags are responsiable for terriable crimes against humanity and all you can do is shed a tear for them...and shout poor bastards we want answers......Yes, prisoner abuse is bad but there is always two sides to each story and your only telling one....so i'll ask you if you were forced to watch the execution of your father or serveral family members for the crime of talking to NATO soldiers would you be so forgiving...would you be demanding those responsiable be treated fairly, shit they have to arrive without a scratch or there are inquiries launched, and our own countrymen demanding heads on a pole.... They are making judgements without all the info, assuming we are guilty because more than 10 years ago, a few men beat and killed a somolia teenager. for which DND has paid that dept off in full...don't trust your own military or government then you should be singing another tune, or packing your bags....I heard france is nice. I 100 % agree with Alexandra final comment...put up or shut the F###-up. -

Sorry for not being a little clearer, it's not life insurance, the military has it's own life insurance that covers war zones, and for about 70 dollars a month your covered for a max of 1/4 mil. most soldiers are required to have it before going on tour, although some do not... What we are talking about is insurance agains't your mortage, or veh loan etc..you pay an extra fee which entitles you for a pay out of your loan for accidental death. On my loan papers there is no mention of a war zone clause, just accidental death ie car accident etc. My wife is reading through our papers now, and has phoned our insurance company and our bank is covering it, but is going to revise it's contact in the future. My problem is petawawa is a small town and DND is the primary employer, and everyone knows this including those that are selling these for a "few dollars more you can get accidental death coverage policies"...which is a good thing when in my profession....and when asked if it is good in a war zone, the quit happily say yes...whats the odds a claim will be made....But like my policy the wife had to wait serveral hours for them to ensure we where covered.... I guess my bitch is, it is not being made clear.... up front that soldiers are covered only when not soldiering, or what we can do or not do, for instance i'm i covered here in Canada doing SAR , forest fires, ice stroms etc...Making preps for my death was something high on my list, and alot of those serving are assuming they are covered when they are not, hence why the panick.
-
I was shocked to read this in todays news, and it has me scrambling to check my own issurance... but this is not about me, it is about the spouses that have lost thier life long partners in combat...only to be told that these banks will not cover thier issurance claims, these same banks that have recorded record profits. I hope that this gets the same coverage as the alleged prisoner debate. army wifes.

Poser: And what actions are those poser ? perhaps you can give us an example, of how Canadian soldiers are emmulating american soldiers. Do you have proof of such a retarded remark ? do you have proof that prisoners or detainees captured by Canadian soldiers and then handed over to Afgan auth where tortured or mistreated...if you do then send that info to one of the inquiries, or that lawyer in ottawa...he could use some more TV air time. Again more unfounded and false remarks...but then again that is your trade mark is it not, making unfounded and false remarks...i think you need a boyfriend or girlfriend what ever your choice to consume more of your time, instead of making these false accuastions and tarnishing the good name of countries soldiers. your the one making these tall tales up in order to be heard on this forum, have you tried knitting.
