  1. Because of diminishing marginal utility of consumption.
  2. One of the most effective ways to promote a narrative and indoctrinate people with propaganda is by omission of information. If you try to get information from multiple sources of media, you are much less susceptible to omission of information.
  3. I keep it in one thread. I don't spam threads so that entire forums are littered with threads by a single person.
  4. Why not?
  5. Yeah, GPI is dumb. It doesn't even take income inequality into account. And the way it is calculated is very arbitrary and subject to people picking parameters to dogmatically get the conclusions they want. For example, the wiki article has a social cost of CO2 emissions at $93/metric ton, which is just insane and not representative of the mainstream economic view (ironically, they site Richard Tol, but Richard Tol wouldn't agree with a $93/metric ton social cost of CO2 emissions). Also, GPI can't be used to deal with uncertainty, where as social welfare can.
  6. Give me proof. I call BS that China can inflate their growth rate for such a long period of time without people noticing and correcting for this. Do they commit fraud? Sure, especially when it comes to CO2 emissions. But give me proof or I won't believe it about real GDP growth.
  7. Proof? I call BS.
  8. How about an additively separable and symmetric (i.e. satisfies anonymity principle) social welfare function where the utility function in the social welfare function is determined empirically from observations of human choices (will need to assume expected utility theory for this though). See more here: http://judithcurry.com/2015/11/29/decision-making-under-uncertainty-maximize-expected-social-welfare/. With respect to the GPI, you have 26 variables, but how do you determine how much weight each variable should get? It seems arbitrary.
  9. Not sure about that. At least with respect to ISIS, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
  10. It's pretty sad when Russia Today is more reliable than all western mainstream media. Good thing we live in an internet age where one is able to obtain information from alternative media outlets, or even just random individuals on youtube.
  11. It's all about trying to get classical liberalism banned. 'Micro-aggressions' are just an excuse neoprogressives use to try to ban classical liberalism since they can't compete with classical liberalism in the free market place of ideas. Support for freedom of speech is also a classical liberal position that the neoprogressives hate.
  12. If the USA foreign policy was all about oil, Keystone XL would have been passed years ago. I think the issue of Saudi Arabia of more politicians thinking 'well we've always supported Saudi Arabia, therefore we must continue to always support Saudi Arabia'. Basically an irrational preference for the status quo, perhaps combined with a cold war mentality with respect to Russia.
  13. Who funds the ideology that leads to ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Shabab & Al Queda? The saudis and the gulf states. How many of the recent islamist attacks have been done by shia muslims? Zero. How many have been done by sunni muslims? All of them. The Saudis are an order of magnitude worse than Iran. It's insane that we continue to be allied with the genocidal Saudi regime. They commit genocide against apostates, against gay people and against shia muslims. The Saudis don't even let women drive. Even ISIS let's women drive.
  14. Saudi Arabia executes Shia muslims for no good reason. How do our politicians sleep at night supporting this genocidal regime?

  15. Yes. F^ck the UN. Or maybe we need to realize that we are continually shackled by the state of Canada and how it was constructed/founded. Can't abolish the senate, can't legalize marijuana, etc. We need significant constitutional reform.
  16. And so it continues. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/persinger-psychology-class-1.3389410

  18. And post #28 was a response to an earlier post. You fail to relate what you wrote to the discussion. 95% of people like ice cream.
  19. And how does it relate to this??? ""Which sex spends the most money on cars and car accessories?" For this one, I don't know. Could be either gender. Certainly women control the majority of domestic spending." Please stop trolling West Coast Runner.
  20. During the last major El Nino, there was an ice storm in Ottawa-Montreal that caused lots of damage. This time, there is no ice storm. It is too warm! Clearly global warming is necessarily bad.
