Opposition want to make election about Harper.
Scotty replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Even if true, and I am one of those angry about it, the responsibility lies with the Toronto and Ontario governments, not with Harper. And I imagine the Ontario government will meet its fate this fall. -

1) It's on TV a lot. And really, we know that's basically it. It's on TV a lot and thus able to grasp the shallow minds of a largely knowledge-free group of lefty do-gooders who see armed soldiers against 'civilians' and instinctively figure the soldiers must be the bad guys. And why is it on TV a lot? Because in the world of infotainment, action and blood are what catches the viewers and draws sponsors. And unlike in most other troubled areas, Israel has 5 star hotels with pools, A\C and top flight restaurants right near the 'front lines', and doesn't boot out reporters for criticizing the government. -
Well, it is a lot warmer out there, and given how your house prices have collapsed I've been looking at houses in Florida myself. I could buy one for half the price of a cottage up here.

Most new medical devices/medicines are developed with major government funding. In light of that, I too think the patents which let manufacturers charge whatever they feel like charging need to be reexamined.

Health care is becoming too big for the provinces. The cost is ballooning to the point they're going to wind up spending the majority of their budgets on it. Ontario's health care budget is growing at such a rate it will consume 80% of the budget by 2030. Something has to be done or they'll only need one cabinet minister - because they won't be able to afford to do anything else.

One of the major issues in this country is the games they play with responsibilities, passing the buck back and forth until the public doesn't know who to blame. With politicians, if the public isn't blaming them for a problem - then there is no problem. Canadians need to have one government/department/agency to hold responsible for health care problems.

Boy, if I was bear retirement I'd sure be looking to make a purchase of a nice winter home down south this year. I doubt prices like this will last. Where I am, the average home prices is over $300k “With prices like this it’s crazy not to buy,” says Diana Carter, an Ontario retiree who just had an offer accepted on a single-family house in Florida. Ms. Carter had spent four intense months looking at properties. “We looked at places for US$23,000 or US$24,000 but decided on something so much nicer for US$43,555.” Perfect Storm for Buyers Scottsdale Arizona condo in gated community $135k link Miami condo on the ocean, $180k link LA, 4 bedroom home $100k link

No doubt learned by watching the Liberals do exactly the same for thirteen years. Mr. Goodale's perpetual phony self-righteousness never fails to irritate me.

Frankly, the provinces are doing a lousy job on health care. I'd like to see one central authority, even have the feds take over. But in any event it's clear we need guidance from the feds on this issue of seniors. Flawed R&D scheme costs billions I'm not talking about deregulating. I'm talking about lifting the protection the local oligarchies enjoy, protection which has made them fabulously profitable and able to keep prices higher than anywhere else in the world.

And let's not forget these classic western scores..

The opening to The Bridge at Remagen was terrific, melded so well with the visuals, very stirring, went well with both the military theme and the drama of refugees. You have to skip to the 5:50 mark to start as there was some action before the titles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swMu5GTjGR8 And lest we forget how much better a score can be than a movie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMLPnk9-6MM

I'm sure women have raped other women. Does that mean that women who fear rape should be as wary around other women as around men? I don't personally think so. The vast, vast majority of times women are raped it's by a man. Saying women can rape women too is kind of beside the point. It's men who are the main threat. And yes, it's only a minority of men, but even so...

Stockwell Day to leave Federal Politics

Okay, but you haven't offered up any logical reason why his work as a defense attorney works against children's best interests. -
It's not strong enough. It should be mandatory. Too many immigrants come here and find they either can't get work or can't get decent work. Less than half immigrants who are brought here specifically under the skilled program specifically because of a particular skill never find work in that field because their skills are simply not transferable/acceptable here. If they have a well paying job offer, well and good. If they lose it and can't find another within 90 days then they probably don't have a very in-demand skill. We don't want them living here in poverty working at a dead end, nothing job. We only let them in because of their skill and job offer. If those don't prove to be wanted by the market then they should go home. . We have far more applicants than we need. We can afford to lose some. See, I just don't believe that. Canadians will do minimum wage jobs if they don't have a choice. Employment Insurance and welfare rules need to be amended to encourage people to take a job - any job they can get. Not nearly strongly enough. And we accept third party assessments of their language ability form areas of the world with rampant corruption. Stats Canada has already identified lack of language skills as a major factor in increasing immigrant poverty. Again, we have lots of applicants. We can skim off the best, most likely to succeed and lose the rest. Often not, and even when done only after years and years of appeals. Because they are the least skilled, least educated, least successful immigrants, and the ones most likely to be living in poverty, on welfare, and involved in crime. We approve a far, far higher percentage of applicants than any other country, and most of them are economic, not political refugees. In addition, many so-called refugees are using false documents, and never show up for their hearings. If people CAN work, then they SHOULD work. Getting money for nothing leads to cultural sickness, leads to dependency, and saps any will or desire to take risks or work at crappy jobs to get experience. If I hadn't taken some crappy jobs when younger, I wouldn't have gotten the less crappy jobs, and then the better jobs after that. .Sure they will, if there is legitimately a labour shortage like they keep whining about. Stop the flow of temporary workers and companies will damned well have to employ local people.

Why should he have stepped aside? In what way was his defense of an accused somehow detrimental to or conflicting with his duties as a school board trustee? -
Right. We can see by this list of terrorist incidents last year that many religions are involved in terrorist incidents. Although, maybe it's just my impression, but one religious group seems to be rather prominent... Terrorist Incidents 2010

There seems to be a certain tipping point with regard to the size of a Muslim population. Once it reaches the numbers where the number of Muslims have a certain weight in society they then feel more able to make demands and push their religious agenda with more determination. Canada and the US have not yet reached that point. All nations had their brutal history. That includes the Muslim ones. You are simply not familiar with that history.
-
There are a lot of things in the old testament which are pretty brutal. It's considered a sort of allegorical history of the world, and written, clearly, at a time where brutality wasn't considered to be particularly shocking. Some considered it a sort of 'prequel' to Jesus's story. However, most Christian denominations place emphasis on the new testament. Both of them have been re-interpreted at regular intervals in line with progressing notions of society. The thing about the Koran is it hasn't been reinterpreted in centuries, and the last formal interpretation was by people who, of course, were pretty backward and barbaric by modern thinking. That interpretation was locked in, and no others were ever permitted.

You don't think ten thousand terrorist incidents by Muslims in the past ten years might be considered more than anecdotal?
