  1. I would think this has to be regarded as poor judgment and tone-deaf, at the very least. -k
  2. The Raptors are getting clobbered! They have to try harder! Put the ball in the ring! Score more goals! Do the thing! Come on, Raptors! You can do it! -k
  3. The Cole's Notes version is this: -science says that the heavy elements we find in nature are formed by nuclear fission in the core of stars. -science says that we have these elements on earth because stars went supernova and spread this matter all over, and that this matter later on formed into other planets and other stars elsewhere in the cosmos. -The Bible says the Earth was the first thing God built. Betsy is saying that Science is proving the Bible right, but clearly in this case that's just not so. And this is hardly the only example, either. There's lots of information to corroborate that lots of things in the universe are far older than our planet, contrary to what the Bible says. -k
  4. Bring it! Make it a charity fight! Tougher guys than Mulcair have tried! Mulcair don't want none of this! Mulcair wouldn't last 30 seconds! -k
  5. Polls appear to indicate that most Canadians don't care about "elbowgate". I think most people who were aware of it saw it as a bunch of fake, manufactured outrage on the part of the NDP. This poll indicates a solid majority say it was "no big deal" and "we should all just move on". And I still can't get over what a pathetic baby Ruth Ellen Brosseau is. If being bumped inadvertently makes her run away crying, how can she ride public transit? How can she function at all if she's that fragile? Either she's the biggest infant ever elected to public office in Canada, or she's a soccer injury-faker, flailing around on the turf trying to get the referee to throw a yellow card. I don't know which is worse; either way its pretty pitiful. You suck, Ruth Ellen! You're an embarrassment to women everywhere. You should apologize for being such a disgrace. -k
  6. Gord Downie terminally ill. :(

  7. I just had a quick look at the regular season standings and some of the top teams had home records like 39-2, 40-1, 33-8, 32-9... in hockey that would be unheard of. Middle of the pack teams still have very strong home records, but also mediocre road records. Celtics 28-13 at home, 20-21 road, Hawks 27-14 home, 21-20 road... It seems like a very pronounced home vs road difference compared to other sports. -k
  8. After getting completely smashed in the two games in Cleveland, they have won their two home games. Is "home court advantage" a bigger thing in basketball than other sports? -k
  9. So THAT'S how the Iron Isles become relevant. As with Walder Frey and his bridge, so with Euron Greyjoy and his navy. Dany will get to Westeros if she pays his toll... marriage. If not, she's stuck in Essos behind a naval blockade. But, she could elude Euron's blockade... using sub-Meereens! Yara and Theon escape, taking some quantity of ships apparently... but it's hard to see where they fit in the immediate future. Winterfell is landlocked, Castle Black is landlocked... they can't really help with the drama currently unfolding in the North. I assume that they'll be back in season 7. I also assume that Euron's fleet will arrive in Slaver's Bay toward the end of the season, just as Dany finishes mopping up and turning her attention west. Well, the entmoot turned out to be more interesting than I expected! Bran! Fricken Bran you dumb-ass! Just had to go play with the zombies, didn'tcha. Poor Hodor... that was the grimmest "origin story" I can think of. So... with no Hodor and no wolf, Bran just has Meera left... she seems a capable sort, but they're not going to get too far if she has to drag him everywhere they go. Sansa finally gets to do the kind of stuff her mother raised her for. Not just sewing, but also politicking. Not only did Cat Stark teacher this stuff from childhood, but she's also had the chance to watch up-close while Cersei, Tyrion, Lady Tyrell and Margie, and Littlefinger did their thing. How much of it rubbed off on her? She also has Ser Davos in her corner, who while not crafty and cunning like Tyrion and Varys, is at least a very astute man. Very interesting that Littlefinger didn't mention that he had troops from the Vale marching north, or offer to pledge them to her cause. I would assume that means he anticipates being able to use them as a bargaining chip later on. "My forces could help, but in return I need something from you." Also interesting that he mentioned Blackfish Tully had retaken Riverrun from the Freys. Is that the truth, or did he deceive her? One would think that open warfare between the Freys and Tullys would be be a big news item in Westeros, and that Maester Aemon could verify that by sending out some ravens. Jorah the Explorah gets sent off on a quest to heal himself. I would think that with the resources available in Meereen, she should have taken her with him. Another Red Priestess... who got Varys all agitated by mentioning stuff from his childhood, including the voice from the flames that said a name as his body-parts were being sacrificed. Was that name Daenarys Targaryen? Is that why he's been plotting on her behalf right from day 1? I liked this episode... as events in the North continue to unfold and the finale involving Hodor was quite stunning. Even the Iron Isles stuff was more interesting this week, as finally we have an idea how they fit into the bigger picture. I assume that next week we'll be back in King's Landing with major drama involving royals, religious extremists, and FrankenMountains. -k
  10. BREAKING: Kim City squirrel attacked by crows! Live blog to follow.

  11. Trump isn't a Scot. He's a New Yawk huckster extraordinaire. You like to categorize people into groups by religion or nationality and extrapolate their behavior from generalizations, but ascribing Trump great religious conviction on the basis of his mother's nationality is highly presumptuous. People abandon their parents' beliefs all the time, perhaps to join another religion or perhaps to become non-religious. If you think Scots are different in this respect, how do you explain plunging church membership in Scotland? I honestly have no idea what you're getting at. -k
  12. I'm certainly not suggesting this was smart on Trudeau's part. Just that it's being wildly exaggerated to score political points. The idea that Ruth-Ellen Brosseau was unable to vote as a result of this incident is the most ridiculous of all. Chuck Cadman came to the HoC during chemotherapy to cast a vote. Ruth-Ellen Brosseau was so traumatized that she had to go to a safe-space to cry? That's either complete BS being promoted for political points, or Brosseau is an infant trapped in an adult's body. She might as well start wearing diapers and a bib to work. What a great role-model for young women. -k
  13. I think that saying Trudeau bodily dragged Gord Brown out of there is as hyperbolic as the claim that he delivered a flying elbow-smash to the NDP member. I imagine that by the time I wake up tomorrow people are going to be saying he body-slammed Ruth Ellen McSafespace and dragged Gord Brown down the aisle with one hand wrapped around his windpipe. -k
  14. Nothing in Trump's history indicates the slightest interest in religion... until it became politically expedient. Being a Christian is a de-facto requirement in running for President, which is why Trump is now a 'uuuuuuuge Christian. -k
  15. Did he get the "Shawinigan Handshake"? Was he injured? -k
  16. Trump became a deeply religious man about 2 weeks before he decided to run for President. -k
  17. I quoted the only important part of your message-- the first sentence-- and trimmed the unimportant part, which is all the rest of it. You complain that I took it out of context, but I didn't. The portion I quoted explains the real context of the whole NAS quote you've been misinterpreting. It is a fact that they are explaining the opinion of *some* scientists, not issuing an official position of the organization. That's the context of the quote you've been continuing to misuse. It has been explained to you over and over, but you stubbornly shut out every bit of information that contradicts your fantasy-world. -k
  18. My favorite part is that the NDP MP had to retreat to her Safe Space after being inadvertently nudged. #Triggered -k
  19. Yes. If you don't agree, take a look at how Saudi Arabia deals with such "blasphemers". Hard to call it an isolated incident when it's the law of the land, and hard to deny the religious element when the law was written by the Prophet's disciples... or the Wahhabist interpretation thereof, at least. He might have been inspired by his religious beliefs, but there's certainly no Christian doctrines advocating animal sacrifice. Again, if this is something endemic to Christian theology, why do we only have this one example of it? I really don't disagree with what you're saying here in regard to the "no true Scotsman" thing. I just think you picked a poor example to make your case. -k
  20. I would like to hear what was actually transpiring between Gord Brown and the NDP members. Were they actually physically impeding Brown? Were they exchanging pleasantries, or was there a confrontation of some kind? I watched the video clip without reading any of the commentary here or in the article, and to me it looked like the NDP were surrounding Brown, like they were #BlackLivesMatter or something. Trudeau shouldn't have intervened. The House Speaker should have called the Sergeant At Arms to come over and beat their asses with the big silver mace. -k
  21. Is that really the plan, though? It seems totally out of character for Littlefinger to be so brash. "Hey, let's go fight a war!" seems totally out of character for him, doesn't it? He's constructed a flawless excuse to attack the Boltons, but I can't help think there might be another angle. -k
  22. Every week for the past 5 years I have been seeing predictions from some guy or another that a new recession is about to hit that will make 2008 look minor by comparison. Gerald Celente is one of the guys who keeps saying this, there are numerous others whose names I can't remember. Who are these guys, and what are they selling? How do they profit by issuing these doomsday predictions and continuing to be wrong all the time? -k
  23. In the case of Muslims and violence, you have widespread violence by religious fanatics citing their faith as their justification, and you have at least some number of Muslim leaders and scholars preaching that yes, there's a duty to fight to spread the faith and kill the khufar. In the case of this guy, you have a grand total of one incident of a Christian who did this. You have a grand total of zero Christian pastors or theologans contending that burning your pets is the way to repent. There's the fundamental difference between the two. If you wanted to highlight the "no true Scotsman" thinking, you could have picked the guy who attacked Planned Parenthood in Colorado, who cited his religious beliefs as the reason. You could have picked the Westboro Baptist Church, who have all of their positions grounded solidly in scripture. Those are a couple of examples that do get Christians coming out of the woodwork to say "those aren't real Christians!" -k
  24. There you go. You just solved your own problem. Now that you understand where you went wrong, we can let this silly thread rest. -k
  25. I'm not saying that he's not a real Christian, I'm just saying that barbecuing pets to atone for sins isn't a widespread Christian belief to any detectable degree. Like, it appears to be way below faith-healing and snake-handling in terms of market penetration. -k
