Even Muslim countries ban the NIqab - so why not Canada?
Bryan replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Muslim organizations in Canada want the niqab banned. It's not a part of their religion, it's purely a symbol of oppression of women and has no place in any civilized or just society.- 384 replies

People are just remembering previous election polling. Go back and look a the polls leading up to the past several elections. Look at the numbers attributed to the CPC compared to what they really got. CPC consistently got higher numbers than most of the polls will have you believe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_in_the_Canadian_federal_election,_2011 I think things are even worse now though, in that the polls are all over the map. Any of the three main parties could be anywhere. This may be the last election where someone mentions "polling" without laughing.

Turban doesn't cover the face, and the niqab is not a religious article. I have to take my glasses and/or hat off in a wide variety of circumstances, people should have to take off their masks in such situations too.- 384 replies

I always advance vote. Virtually no one there today. I was the only one coming in, and one lone person entered just as I was leaving.

The liberals bring out the gun control dog whistle.
Bryan replied to poochy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's not technically a dog whistle, but it still falls into the same category: saying something that is not quite what those listening to the words will think you meant. It's to court people farther left who want to think that he said "ban all guns". It's not dissimilar to the conversation we had earlier regarding legalizing vs decriminalizing marijuana. -
It has worked so well for so long for the Liberals and NDP, why shouldn't the Conservatives get to have some of that fun too?

Politicians say a lot of things during a campaign. Whatever sticks.

Conservative Former Premier Danny Williams Speaks Out

Notley saying she's cautiously optimistic is a far cry from calling out Mulcair though. -
Conservative Former Premier Danny Williams Speaks Out

See NDP would be different, because they are all one party (federal and provincial). If an NDP elected official were breaking ranks, that would be a much bigger deal. -
So nothing then.

Conservative Former Premier Danny Williams Speaks Out
Bryan replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, you're right, I think I just confused you by the way I phrased it. Williams is a Nfld PC. Stephen Harper left the federal PCs in 1986. Different parties at different levels. -
Christian Heritage - Libertarian would be my ideal, but in all seriousness, any coalition would have to be among parties that actually have seats. So, with that in mind, why not Conservative - BQ and bring back the Mulroney era big tent.

When was Williams ever in the same party as Stephen Harper? -
If anything, a person who doesn't vote is effectively choosing whomever actually wins. They're the political equivalent of the person who says "I'm fine with whatever you want" when going out to dinner. If someone wants to get cute and try to factor where their non-vote counts in the breakdown, they should be adding the non-votes to the winner, not the opposition.

That is not a commitment I would want my Prime Minister making, regardless of what party s/he represented.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Canada Criticizes TPP Deal
Bryan replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So I just finished listening to Evan Soloman's XM show, and according to the guests he had on that is what the TPP partners agreed to: a LOWERING of the pharma patent protections from 20 years to only 8. Not only that, but the generic drug companies get to start in-house testing much earlier than before, so that they can launch the generic products immediately upon the patent expiring. If that's the case, what are MSF upset about?- 56 replies

If nobody knows what's in it, how do people know the details that they are reporting? Lots of information is posted here for anyone who has time to dig through it: http://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/agr-acc/tpp-ptp/index.aspx?lang=eng- 56 replies
