  1. What aspect of his "well-being" would have been threatened by him going to the police at the time he witnessed the child being sodomized?
  2. I care. Eskimos all the way!!
  3. They're not even strawmen, they're simple diversions.
  4. I thought membership registrations had to be approved somehow. I have noticed a small rash of SPAM going on so... I guess not?
  5. More reasons to avoid mass immigration from Europe. Not only do they falsify their education credits, but their educated and elite have turned their continent into an economic basket case. Wait for them to start another World War over there. Then everyone will be employed.
  6. Ah the old Righteous Patronage & Political Nepotism comes out of the closet. Because, you know, when the cons 'clean' the Liberals out of Elections Canada, they will replace them with neutral people.
  7. Whatever happened to living life according to vapid slogans?
  8. No kidding. Saying what most people are thinking. Barry Switzer on Penn State scandal: 'Everyone on that staff had to have known' I sense that it is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better.
  9. When? I am certain they'll have their investigation for a blatant violation of one of their key principles. Heck, have they finished the investigation for Ohio State yet? Sure they do. If they sanction Penn State, remove their BCS status, etc., it will be completely legal.
  10. Amazing, you are so astute with your observations, you deserve a medal. With a little ribbon too, so the Queen can pin it on you in a ceremony. Boy, you sure know what you are talking aboutRue . Am I ever glad you're on our side! For once, we can be righteous. And you are a classic example of the modern day hero whose inspiring narratives spur people to action and move our beloved society forward. Thank God for heros like you Rue. I am really glad you pointed this all out. It really makes me think. This is all very good stuff. I think I am going to have to re-evaluate some personal things because of this. Thanks Rue, even your insult and invective is refreshingly inspiring! This is very good advice and knowing the source of it, I just know it is literally dripping with love and sincerity. Don't give up Rue, you have such a perfect grasp on reality, we need you to show us the way, straight and true, right into the Promised Land. Spoken like a true hero, I am in complete awe. Remember Rue, we are counting on you.
  11. Except that even with a reduction, there are far more news outlets now and likely a percentage of them do more longer, more serious pieces that existed back in the 1950s. Not counting blogs, web sites, zines, etc. But there are also more people that are savvy to the details and complexities and who can articulate them to the public reader. Like any journalist, historians pick and choose their facts to construct their preferred narrative.
  12. Lilley expects morons to follow his tripe because he knows most of them are too stupid to lazy to figure out how our foreign aid works or what the money is actually spent on. Seriously, we "give" them money? Eh. The CIDA projects are listed on their website for anyone to look at. But Lilley knows most of them won't. Except for one of the commenters on Lilley's story by the name of Barry Miles who makes Lilley look like the a silly shill.
  13. Hey, that cultural backwater sure is nice for canoeing though!
  14. I wouldn't be surprised to see Penn State lose their BCS status for this year, just to start.
  15. It most certainly is an NCAA enforcement matter. They deal with the moral and ethical side of the house and they can investigate and sanction for a break-down of ethics. 2009-2010 DI manual (emphasis is mine) That is a major NCAA principle that was trampled pretty badly and the NCAA can enforce as severe sanctions as it sees fit.
  16. The issue isn't about the child rape, it is about it going unreported and who was implicated in that and it points directly at the football program. It wasn't just a coach, it was a former coach who was repeatedly welcome back into the football facilities. Didn't Paterno know that nothing had come of the allegation of child rape against a guy that was always floating around the football program and ran a prgram for kids? Didn't he have a single clue? However, killing the football program is taking it a little too far. But Penn State has to do the right thing or leave it up the NCAA to slam them good. Pull out of the BCS and self-impose sanctions for a multi-year period. If Ohio State can do this and man-up about some memorabilia-for-cash that netted a few thousand dollars, then certainly Penn State can for unreported child rape.
  17. So are you saying there are no longer, more serious pieces anymore?
  18. Really? What movie did you see this in?
  19. Besides completely ignoring whole imporant factors, like infrastructure and bandwidth, you didn't answer my question.
  20. It only stands to reason.
  21. From "War dead" to "Ashes from service members' remains" finally to "residual matter." Slow news day at CNN?
  22. I suppose the issue is what is the qualification for "reader." One story? Two? Three? Daily news source? Weekly? If I read CBC news solely to criticize the content, am I "reader?" Where a news outlet has enabled commentary, I can comment freely without even reading anything. Heck, I can spend my day simply commenting on all the other comments. And I have seen that happen on some news sites, or so it appeared. So I don't equate commenter with "reader." This link appears to solicit opinion from various sources, but doesn't include the comment section. This link appears to deal with complaints directly sent to the CBC Ombudsman's Office. With regard to the commentary section of the story in question it is noted that, "The response also noted that many people disagreed with Ms. Mallick in the Comments section of the website." This link appears to be a screencap of the comments section. I don't see anywhere in any of those links that the CBC equates the commenters as being "CBC readers." Now perhaps my eyes are tired and I am simply missing it. Could you point it out please?
  23. Paterno Is Finished at Penn State, and President Is Out Just adding the link from the Times.
