  1. we've totally derailed the thread with WW2 scenario's...I'm done with those now...
  2. we cannot defend ourselves against super powers....those we can defend ourselves against don't have the capability to invade us...
  3. invading or not invading neutral countries is a strategic decision....not invading is as important as invading depending on circumstance...
  4. it wasn't resources they were after, it was "lebensraum"..first you state they didn't invade Sweden because they'd lose Swedish iron...then you say they invaded others to take their resources ..which they did so were the swedes going to prevent it how ...sweden was of no strategic importance to germany, the resources were available whether they invaded or not...
  5. they're useless for defense we don't enough, we could never afford to have enough to defend the country, the country is too big to defend, a super hornet will as just as useful)zero) and much much less expensive...
  6. ya and that they were surrounded by German and Italian forces and of no threat to axis powers or of any use to the allied powers...
  7. and what did the Iraq war cost the USA, 3 trillion? ...3 trillion vs 14 billion, hmmm there's a difficult decision...
  8. ? are you referring to direct democracy? assuming you are, direct democracy is the ideal but it becomes very unwieldy in large societies, so then we need the next best thing, representational democracy.... in a representational democracy PR is more inclusive and closer to the direct democracy ideal than FPTP ...
  9. a rifle without ammunition is a club...a plane without ground support, fuel, ammo, runway is scrap-metal...
  10. the swiss(friendly) were irrelevant they were of no strategic importance to Germany or the allies...sweden no strategic importance, no invasion...spain was neutral/fascist no invasion,...Iceland, neutral invaded by allies for strategic importance...were getting into that silly resources argument again...wars/invasions/occupations are hideously expensive, no country is going to invade when you're quite happy to sell your resources to them.....
  11. yes that's all correct,(I knew you would get that) times change and the bases haven't, even if they were to scramble jets before the hangers were flattened and the runways holed where are those F35's going to go? any that escape are useless without ground support...and after the bases are neutralized civilian bases come under attack...these things are no better than the much less expensive super hornets for national defense... that's kind of the entire point, claims we need these are justified that they're for arctic or national defense are ridiculous,...any country with the capability to invade canada is not going to troubled by few f35's... "the Chinese are coming to steal our oil!" right we sell them Nexen and they have a need to go through the trouble of invading us for oil ...
  12. more bs...the same reason they never invaded sweden, there was no need the swiss weren't a threat and it offered no strategic advantage like norway and the low countries... the german swiss were also sympathetic to the germans in 1940 it demobilized half(250,000) it's army knowing the germans would not invade...
  13. ya it is...looking at google earth cold lake has 6-7 hangers non hardened from what I can tell...easy peasie for long range cruise missles, a couple of volleys and they're done the rcaf is no more...
  14. bs...france, england, russia the germans rolled over all of them regardless how well they were armed, tiny low countries with populations of 9 million each are not going to fight off a nation of 80 million...
  15. first order of business for any invasion, take out air bases(only two of them would have f35's) and radar, multiple cruise missile strikes on runways, ground the fighters on day one of invasion...and that,as they say, is that ...we would fair no better than Iraq(probably worse) vs the US, air defense is gone in a day....
  16. alberta conservatives... rob anders CPC- nelson mandela is a terrorist daniel smith WR party- the science of climate change isn't settled alan hunsperger WR party- gays will perish in a burning lake of fire ron leech WR- Caucasians are better and my comments are offensive?...
  17. “Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.”- John Stuart Milltell it to John Stuart Mill
  18. oversimplification by the historically ignorant no less...low countries were armed but defending against a much larger foe like Germany futile, just as canada's situation would be versus any opponent with the capability to invade us...any opponent we are capable of defending ourselves from doesn't have the capability to invade...if the USA, Russia or China had the intention to invade canada 200 F35s couldn't save us, they'd neutralize the flying pigs in a day or two at most...
  19. are you saying the socreds weren't conservative?...that's a bit like saying Chev and Pontiac and Oldsmobile aren't GM products...same shitte just a different colour
  20. it's the way they(the Chinese) play the game...we accept the rules they play by, they're not forcing us to do it...
  21. but many of today's conservatives would've been labeled commies 50 years ago...so it's relative to the era....fiscal conservatism is more economics than politics, Saskatchewan ndp were fiscal conservatives but socially progressive...
