Many of them are not very difficult family circumstances, like the case in the post #75, CAS just need to say, if you still come hospital tomorrow, we will have to suspect you have mental problem and take the 2 kids away, I believe the mother will no longer dare to come to hospital again. If they are really think of the kids, they should tell the mother what is the better method, such as go to see his family doctor. If she don't trust her family doctor, she can try several walk-in clinics and take opinion from different doctors. But CAS will lost the chance to take about $60,000 a year from tax payers. So CAS won't do that. The social worker will be fired if he/she can not take in kids when his name is "in-take" worker. That is because CAS and group home don't know how to educate kids, they just good at take kids away from their home and bully, they have no idea how to educate them. And good kids mixed with bad kids and bully teachers, if they don't bad enough, they will be bullied by others. Again, most of it are not so bad, maybe just need a few talk. After the kids were "protected", near half or more become real criminals. It won't be so many if they were not rob away from their own families. The best alternative is to leave the kids home and warn the family and educate them. Only remove them when crime happened instead of using word "risk" to put kids into real risk places unless parents ask for that. In this way, we will have a more peaceful nation and everyone include every senior and every kid will save more than $200s a year for CAS and the related crimes.

She went to hospital every day wish to get pity from the doctors, the doctor don't think the child had serious problem and called CAS. CAS toke 2 kids away and said the mother have mental problem not suitable for parenting. The mother was so sad with depression that she committed suicide. Left her husband alone. Let's see the following example: A family buy a land, and build a house, and live there. There is no extra GDP generated by the family by the building the house, they enjoy their own product. When he sell the house, there is a purchase, there is contribute to GDP. Then the buyer sell the house to another one, GDP add again. So when the purchase become frequently, there is no new product, the GDP still accumulated. There are so many lawyers, lots of people pay them, they don't produce, their purchase also contribute to GDP. And these kind of GDP will be taxed. Where the money come from to pay the tax and pay the part whose earned? I did not say that. I just think taxes are too high, and houses are too expensive. It is not easy to make living now. And force others not to do something by bullying is not a correct way.

I earn more than 100k, I pay tax more than 40k a year, I have wife and kids, I can still not afford to buy a house, I am living in apartment. a semi-detached very old house need 500k in Toronto. If I ask for mortgage, for 25 years, I need to pay 400k to bank as interest. So the house price becomes 900k not include many other expenses. What if I lose my job one day? If goes back to 20 years before when that house was about 100k, I would buy it without hesitation.

That is a forcing/bully approach, just as jails, not by willingness. Maybe it can increase population, but maybe only for those who need more social supporting instead of those who can contribute something to society.

Why lots of woman have to work now? Is it because their husbands can no longer earn enough to support them?

$150-200/year is not enough for a family. However, as some others mentioned and the original article suggested, there are better methods than build more prisons. Although there is no guarantee to convert all criminals into model citizens, I believe the criminal rate can be significantly reduced though better education and effective support.

They build jail for whom? You jail them, will the poor condition change? Will problem be solved? Why cannot the gov give the money to the employs to who hire lower income people so that they can have a job, gov pay some percentage, so that they will no longer too poor to crime? The spend of jail for 1/4 year may as many as her one year's salary. When she consume, more others can be benefitted. Employer cost can be lowered after received some from gov, everything will be better than build more jails. I don't know what is political right, does it just mean asking people pay more tax just for politicians to waste?

I don't think it has anything to do with love governments or not. I just wonder why they are still putting so much energy on adding new laws that will cost more resources to process instead of review the existing laws and abolish some.
