  1. I do. (find it concerning), Let's just post section 2 describing new 'serious offenses': 2. The following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act are serious offences that are included in the definition “serious offence” in subsection 467.1(1) of the Criminal Code: (a) trafficking in any substance included in Schedule IV (paragraph 5(3)©); ( trafficking in any substance included in Schedule II in an amount that does not exceed the amount set out for that substance in Schedule VII (subsection 5(4)); © importing or exporting any substance included in Schedule IV or V (paragraph 6(3)©); and (d) producing any substance included in Schedule IV (paragraph 7(2)(d)).
  2. While you guys are having your rosy jaunt down memory lane, try to remember a charge of rape, of domestic violence, assault... try to remember charges ever being laid against a child molester. The acts were common enough, but the culture of the day was to keep it to onesself.
  3. Baird is (unfortunate) but I don't mind seeing Strahl doing the nations business.
  4. It varies with the individual, but I passed that line at least a decade ago.
  5. On the other hand, some old farts have extraordinary imaginations.
  6. Yes it would. If we apply mandatory minimums, to force longer sentences than any sensible judge would levy, that, too, will result in a need for more prisons and prison space. However, Mr. Day chose to cite unreported crimes instead, and when folks pointed out that it made no sense at all, by golly, he stuck to his guns.

Next you'll give us evidence of corruption among the judges of the local Ag Fair pie eating contest, and act like it's a critique oif the legal system!
  8. Oh, Bill! You didn't hear about it, because speaking about it was just not done. Here's an anecdote for you: a 13 year old girl pregnant by her Dad's 50-something live-in drinking buddy..... called down as a dirty slut by the community in general, but in particular, her own brother (along with the rest of her family)... . In the 60's, Bill, raping a child was apparently not a crime.
  9. Oh, Nicky! Is that supposed to be sarcastic?
  10. If you ever heard Newfanese, you'd know. Check youtube, anything by Gazeebow Unit. Trikes and Bikes, maybe. Yissss.
  11. Yep. I don't think I've ever seen a better justification for 'None of The Above' to appear on ballots.
  12. I'm hearing much more from/about Ralph Goodale than from Mr. Ignatieff- this seems to be almost the only place anyone is noticing the summer tour. And the only ones bringing up Mr. Trudeau are Conservative partisans. I find that downright amusing, and wonder why they find him so fascinating. Still smarting from Joe Clark's short-lived governance and resounding defeat?
  13. What of it? Why would it matter whether the word 'racist' applies or does not? How much weight should be granted to, and how much policy should be founded in weasel semantics? The issue is unfair advantage/disadvantage because of group identification, ignoring of individual merit. There is no question that such unfair advantage/disadvantage exists, because affirmative action doesn't even kick in until it's statistically beyond obvious. Do you have a problem with fighting fire with fire? I don't.
  14. I'm finding this rather entertaining, too. Yet another reason to dispise Conservative partisans in general... here we have a gleeful listing of utterly meaningless minutiae, strained through a filter of gilded obtuseness.... Who are you addressing, and of what are you trying to convince them? Folks who might consider changing their vote? That you and your team-mates associates are obnoxious and utterly unreasonable? Carry on. Don't let me interrupt you.
  15. Obviously they did not expoect to find a pie secreted somwhere under his clothing, so they used the strip search (and detention) as tools of punishment, not investigation. The meting of punishment simply because authourities felt like it, and thought they could get away with it... makes this a good ruling.
  16. You realize, of course, that this government was elected by default... the least destructive of a set of odious non-options. We didn't so much believe McGuinty as percieve him as entirely ineffectual. It was the other guys that we believed.
  17. 'Cause... it's a really silly question. I'm remembering a softball coach explaining that it was okay to let the opposition run up the score in the first few innings, because, you see, they'd get all tired from running around the bases like that, and then you'd have them right where you want them. Are you, by any chance, that coach?
  18. Good Lord! A whole new beaurocracy. (For the record, the services of the unwilling are usually more trouble than help.)
  19. We brand you a committed Conservative. You are not a Liberal. You may or may not be a liberal, or a conservative.
  20. All we need to do now is vote for a party that promises the immediate end of the registry. Wait. We already did that... twice....
  21. Nope. Outside a swath a couple of hundred miles wide(at it's widest) between Windsor and the Atlantic ocean, that is simply not true. It is a fallacy proposed mostly by folks from Quebec, occassionally supported by Ontarians (some of whom wish it was so). (Victoria is the exception.) English was the lingua franca in Canada because some common language was desperately needed, and the monarchy is the model upon which our agreed-to government is built. As for anything else, any day-to-day worldview/taste/conduct/attitude- any identity or set of values to be admired- well, holopsi holds a far bigger place in the collective culture than bangers and mash.
  22. http://www.torontoobserver.ca/2010/01/20/community-rally-saves-school-pools/ let's see... taxpayer funded swimming lessons... I've seen a lot of worse ways to spend public money. However, this survey/'issue' has scored more headlines (and more discussion) than it deserves by a factor of at least 20.
  23. Pfft! Did you really mean to capitalize that L there, Bill? So, how do you vote? I'd be really danged surprised if Nicky guessed wrong.
