Why is this not Canada's number one priority
August1991 replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree. I am surprised that it is a CBC story. -
Canada’s Unethical MAID Program An International Pariah

Note to Americans: Older people talk about their health. In Canada, welcome to the Soviet Union. -
Canada’s Unethical MAID Program An International Pariah
August1991 replied to Zeitgeist's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree with Canada's death by wish system. I dislike the the MAiD term. It should be Medically Assisted Death = MAD. If someone wants to die, they should have the right to do so. ===== I have no moral problem with abortion: if a woman wants to rid herself of "life" - she should have the right. Capital punishment? Trudeau Snr changed our law. IMHO, he was wrong. We should still hang some people. We Canadians have sent our soldiers to kill people abroad. -
Here's my point: a) it is better to obsess and correct b) it is better to move on

Madame Bovary. Flaubert was describing what we now call "Karen".

Canadian? All the benefits - without the cost
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
As a Canadian abroad, I have never borne the weight of being American. -
Sustainablity: Must each province have more people?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Newfoundland and Iceland have survived for centuries. -
Compare Zola with Hemingway. Huh? Compare Netflix with NBC. In 2125 - three generations from now, what will kids read? I suspect they'll still read Maugham.

Are Alberta Separatists Committing Treason?
August1991 replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I strongly agree with your two first points. Your third point raises a complicated question. ======= We Canadians have benefited from free trade with America - and the rest of the world. -
Walz vs Trump: State Rights
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This is my point. ==== "Just Watch Me". -
He was Union nationale. That is the modern CAQ. ==== Trudeau Snr (and Seinfeld) had a good point about sports: we support the team wherever they were born.

No. Somerset Maugham wrote Three Fat Women. Google it.

Joyce Carol Oates. Like Balzac, Sidney Sheldon, Dickens, she supposedly described an era. Unlike Balzac and Dickens, I managed to read only one Sheldon or Oates novel.

Poilievre's Missed Chance: Nationalism
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Many English-Canadians view Trump as a typical American. Many French-Canadians view Trump as a typical anglo. ===== To win votes, Poilievre should have played on these perceptions. The federal Liberals do. -
Poilievre's Missed Chance: Nationalism
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, he didn't. Poilievre should have played the Canadian nationalist card, very hard. ===== If PSPP is smart, he will play this card very hard - and then win a referendum. -
Poilievre's Missed Chance: Nationalism
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Advice to PR people: In the future, Poilievre must always appear in front of a large Canadian flag. But with blue somewhere. -
Screw Europe, they're functionally dead
August1991 replied to paxamericana's topic in The Rest of the World
Make no mistake. People in the future will remember the period 1914-1945 as a series of wars/troubles -Three Decades. What do you know about the Thirty Years War? -
Agreed.
-
Poilievre lost the last federal election because he didn't stand up for Canada. The federal Liberals (Carney) are playing this card but screwing this up. The PQ will win on this. ===== Faced with Trump, we Canadians want someone who stands up.
