Groups have already organized to have car-free days, and shop-free days, so why couldn't we have TV-free days, weeks, or even years.

Canadian dollar hits 8-month high What's going on here anyway? Why does our Bank of Canada feel they have to raise interest rates so much higher than the US. I mean I don't mind the closeness to parity with the US dollar, but is this really in Canada's interest?

Sorry, you are so wrong. Actually they are all sitting in the Starbucks sipping their lattes. -

So now you blame Bourrassa for Pierre Laporte's death? (And it was his fault because he was a wimp?) Which is the apple and which is the orange? It would have been a lot easier (and cheaper) to buy the oil at the world market price - which is what American corporations will do anyway. The only people who believe the war was about oil are people who don't understand how markets work. People like Linda McQuaig. August1991....I really am surprised by your comments as I didn't think there were any thinking people left who didn't realize that Iraq was strickly about oil for the US oil companies, and absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. As a matter of fact this Iraqi adventure has probably set back the fight against terrorism about 25 years. -

Why is it Quebeckers can't take any responsibility for any of their own behaviour? Yes, Bourassa caved into the separatists., and probably was one of the worst premiers Quebec ever had. So Trudeau was forced to act against his better judgement. You need to take your Conservative blindfold off once in awhile. So now you blame Bourrassa for Pierre Laporte's death? (And it was his fault because he was a wimp?) Which is the apple and which is the orange? The only people who believe the war was about oil are people who don't understand how markets work. People like Linda McQuaig. Markets my ass!. McQuaig is dead on with her analysis. Yea, like Bush want to save the world from this terrible Saddam Hussein, eh! -

How would you know, have you ever been West of Thunder Bay? It's dangerous out here, the mosquitos are as big as 747s. -
There is a move afoot to revise the English langauage because apparently it is too difficult. What nonsense. What has happened is that we have created generations now of non-readers because of TV. This is the wrong approach to solving the problem. The solution is to turn off the boob box and return to reading. Why do over eager capitalists have to screw everything up, all the time? Talk about the dumbing down of our society!

I am not suggesting that incentives be taken away from people to work - raising the minimum wage is an excellent example to encourage people to work. But in Canada no one, and I mean no one, should be without food clothing, medical care and access to education.

Innocent men my ass. They are there to steal Iraq's oil, plain and simple, and the whole friggin' world knows it, no matter how much the sick right wing fascist media in North America try to supress it. -

What does Trudeau have to do with Laporte's killing? Trudeau had to go in and clean up the mess, the sniveling wimp of a premier Bourassa, created. And yes Putin is partially responsible for the murder of those children! Bush is not going in to clean up something. Bush, Cheney & Big Oil's greed factor is what created the mess to start with in Iraq. Let's stop the snowjobs, eh! Please don't compare apples and oranges. -

Skeptical reaction meets Bush at UN Discredited everywhere, Bush is finding fewer and fewer options in the world community open to him. What a tragegy his presidency has turned out to be. Attacked by terrorists, the Allmighty US can't even find the ringleader. Most of the world is laughing at them. -

Bush Policy Brings the World on his Back This has nothing to do with right wing or left wing, as both US political parties are right wing. Americans are becoming more and more isolated. Why do you think Carolyn Parrish's comments are received so well in Canada? And Canada is one of the US's closest allies, so imagine what other societies think about the US. It is definitely not a pretty picture. -
Downtown Montreal streets closes to cars This is a great idea which is long overdue. now if only we could get decent safe bicycle lanes thoughout all of Canada's muncipalities, eh! But what the problem with Western Canada - Calgary and Vancouver? Why aren't they participating - they should be ashamed.

I'm glad you understand. Stop whining or you will be accused of being left wing. -
Blair Will 'Cry Blood' Warn Hostage Executioners Let's be really clear here. This is the direct result of Blair and Bush's ill-forged plan to get Iraqi oil. Americans need to wake up and realize they have made a horrific mistake in Iraq, change their government, and go back to the United Nations and start acting with the rule of law, instead of the layless yahoos they have been during this whole Iraqi mess.

Bush & Cheney couldn't give a sweet shit about Iraq, or democracy threre, or anything else there except for the oil, and how much money can be made from it. Isn't that obvious by now? That's why the US democratic process is out of control. The last I heard, still more than 50% of Americans think that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, and that he was connected with bin Laden. Pitiful!

God is on the US side. Please give us a break. Shades of RR for sure.

I agree with the people who say that it is actually Haliburton who is running the US Ship of Fools. Any society that has religious fanatics for leaders, such as the US, or Iran, is doomed.

Do you really believe anything Bush says?
maplesyrup replied to takeanumber's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I actually am amazed we survived Ronald Reagan, as the man was out of his mind. Bush scares me, not quite, but almost as much. Mankind will be lucky to survive his presidency as well! -
What amazes me is the guilibility of the average American voter. How could they possibly think that the GOP policies are in their best interests? The Republican Party represents pure and simple, Big Oil, the Transnationals, etc. What do these organizations have in common with Joe and Jane USA? Absolutely nothing, but the sick twisted media in the US, has perverted the democratic process there, and basically destroyed their democracy. Let's face it, the US is bordering on fascism.

This article sums it up pretty much, don't you think? Your Media is Killing You

Michael Moore roars again, with another good point: Put Away Your Hankies...a Message from Michael Moore I agree with him here. The progressive forces have to stop whining like sniveling dogs if they expect to get support. Where is their backbone? They need to learn to lie and cheat just like the right, and project the bullshit image of winners, all the time, every time.

Article What is this all about, eh? Like I know the dude has frequently been missing in action but now it is becoming a serious political issue. More interestingly, a politician trying to avoid the media leads one to assume a whole lot of worst case scenarios -I mean really what is this fellow trying to hide. I learned a long time ago that secrets are one of the most unhealthy traits of human behaviour. So what does this Harper guy have up his sleeve, eh?
