  1. pff....I disagree. We need to pay for everything based on our equity or income. Otherwise when some rich dude cuts down a tree for his view and pays a fine of $500. that is like missing one meal in a restaurant for some people whereas for other people that could be a month's groceries for their entire family. I just don't know how we ever got into this make the poor pay for everything mentality, do you?
  2. And you Caesar, are one of those American-hating English-Canadians.I hate to break this to you Caesar, but English-Canadians (meaning you) are the "Americans" of Canada. God speaks English, don't you know? Once you get this idea that I present to you, maybe you'll grow up a little. August1991....what kind of garbage is this? My closest relatives are US citizens and I love them dearly, however I abhor, detest, and feel like vomiting every time I hear about the latest atrocities committed by the current US administration. I think it is time we stopped calling our neighbours to the South, Americans. That is very arrogant. What about the people that live in South America? Are they not Americans? Are we not as well?
  3. As it does more harm than good, all organized religion should be banned from any kind of special privileges, including tax breaks. Why should someone who does not believe that "JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD" be forced to subsidize that mythology through those tax advantages or perks?
  4. I have a question about the budget surplus: Every year for the past at least half dozen years if not more the so-called business community experts, the economists and the accountants, the Fraser Institute, as well as the Liberals and Conservatives have been way off on their budgetary forecasting, yet the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the economic wing of the New Democrats has been dead on every year with their forecasts. What does that tell you? Having said that there is a major fundamental difference between NDP policy and mine on these budget surpluses. I believe Canada should be paying down its debt as quickly as possible, perhaps doubling or tripling the rate what the Liberals are paying it down, and most certainly to use this extra $8 billion to go 100% towards paying down the debt.
  5. Belinda Stronach's campaign for the leadership of the Conservative party is an excellent example of what often happens to women in politics. The Conservatives, the angry white men, themselves ridiculed her, destroying her leadership possibilities, and elected one of their own the neanderthal Harper, who blew the election with his stone age ideas. Had Stronach been elected leader, the Conservatives might now be in power. Just wait for the howls of indignation though.
  6. Dog owners abdicated their responsibilities and as a result lost their doggie rights. If over the years when someone was viciously attacked by a dog, the dog owners had risen up and spoken out agianst this kind of animal behaviour, then perhaps animal rights activitsts would have a leg to stand on. But they were SILENT. They didn't want to get involved in someone else's problem. Well screw them. We all have a collective responsibility to society and until we learn to understand that, and start getting involved, situations like this will continue to develop.
  7. Slavik44.....how do we solve the pit bull attacks problem? Simple. you put a little lead in the right ear of each pit bull. How do you do that, you say? With a fucking gun! Just like Maslo's list of priorities, life has a priority list as well: first humans, then animals, and finally plants. I know if's tough on dog lovers, and tree huggers, but them's the breaks.
  8. pff.....what's the reason for the rat ban? Are the authorities worried that they will multiply and get loose into the sewers, etc.? I know this dog thingy is a very emotional thing, and different people have had different experiences with animals but I just can't get out of my mind the young girl that was walking down a street in Vancouver minding her own business and has probably been disfigured for life. She is extremely lucky to be alive that poor spunky kid. She was attacked by two dogs. I agree that we need to respect animals, but when push comes to shove we have to place living things in the following priority order: 1 - people 2 - animals 3 - plants
  9. Well at least this gives additional reasons NOT to support capital punishment, eh!
  10. Perhaps we are electing the wrong kind of people to govern us. Why can't we expect to have law abiding citizens, and principled Canadians at the helm. There are a lot excellent people in our society who aren't drunks, having affairs, stealing, abusing, etc. We need to somehow pull them out of the woodwork. I think we need to make it mandatory to have representative Parliament. If women are 50% of the population, we need 50% female MPs. We also need the visible minorities in the House in the same proportions as their respective communities. I think we should double or triple the remuneration for our elected politicians. That way hopefully they will no longer need to be tempted by bribes and corruption, etc. August1991...... you are right, we are reasonably above board if you compare us to some other countries, like the USA. God, I was just listening to a news report on CBC radio and it sounds like the GOP are really opposed to democracy, trying to destroy democratic voting records, etc. A Librarian, I just love Librarians, discovered the scam. Sproule and Associates were using America votes as their front to disenfranchise Democrat voters in Oregon. It is disgustingly dirty. What kind of sick society is that?
  11. August1991......I am not condoning corrupt behaviour, just stating the obvious that it permeates everywhere. No one party or person has a handle on honesty, principled living, or the truth. Your beloved Rene ran over and killed a street person, and had it been someone our society considered of consequence, it would have destroyed his political career. That is the problem when you have drunks on the road and prominent people don't take responsibility for their own personal behaviour. Look at Gordon Campbell. The one overriding thing that is going to bring this man down is his hypocrisy over Glen Clark contrasting it with his own personal behaviour when he was caught DUI in Hawaii. Was he with his girlfriend at the time or not?
  12. If there is one thing I am sure of, it is that she will make a far larger positive contribution to our planet than you could possibly even dream of doing!
  13. Maybe they have a point seeing as how the Conservatives have jumped in bed with the Bloc!
  14. Another Commons showdown avoided Who do they think they are kidding, eh?
  15. We can't all be as bright as you!
  16. I see you have high standards!
  17. I think the first three on your list, pits, rots, & dobs should be banned. Any animal that has the potential to kill humans should not be in the same vicinity as people. and we adults collectively have a responsibility to protect society's children. Police dogs is a completely different kettle of fish, and they do a lot of good work, such as sniffing for drugs and searching for potential thieves after an alarm has gone off in a supposedly empty building.
  18. I just can't believe this has taken so long, but kudos to the McGuinty Liberals for showing some courageous leadership in banning these vicious animals. What is the rest of the country waiting for? More maulings? Deaths? Bannng pit bulls is an idea whose time has come. We will need to expand this program so that the rest of the country, and other vicious dogs are included in these bans as well.
  19. Slavik44....you got it. I guess some presidents are better than others.
  20. Select few 'can identify liars' CSIS, RCMP, Police, Security Officers, and many of us think we can tell who is lying and who is not lying. As this research points out, it is all a croc. Hardly anybody can tell if someone is lying. No wonder so many innocent people end up in jail for crimes they didn't commit.
  21. 2003 Nobel Peace Prize winner: Shirin Ebadi, Iran What do we know about this fellow human being? Without looking it up guess who won in 2002?
  22. kimmy.....OK, I'm calm now. Wanna bet! A Republican Declares His Independence
  23. "Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations." Way back I suggested that the GOP consider beaching George Bush as their candidate in 2004 if they expected to win. I mean come on, even if 1/10 of the aminosity directed towards George Bush outside of the US is directed towards him within the US in the November 2, 2004 presidential election, the GOP candidate is going down.
  24. Just ask Judy T, now his main sqeeze, and she will tell you all about it. Gordon Wilson, if he had stayed where he was as leader of the Democratic Alliance, would probably be BC premier today, but he was lured away by the big bad NDP led by BC Premier Glen Clark at the time. You know Glen Clark that criminal, oops, actually the right wing media got that wrong, although they tried hard as hell to convict him, that former BC non-criminal premier. I always get them confused. It is BC Premier Gordon Campbell that is the criminal.
