  1. Just a point of note. generally that information is missing as a rule when the story is spread by AP or some other news disemination agency. Not to say that you're off base, but it is also unreliable as an indicator of lack of veracity.
  2. Not all aetheists are strident and pushy. Personally I prefer to keep my beleifs where they belong, to myself. If pushed I will talk about them, reluctantly. As far as I'm concerned people are entitled to and should believe whatever they choose to believe. I probably wont understand why they believe what they believe but the choice is theirs to make, not mine.
  3. Nope, it sure did not. No puppies in this thread, the puppy has his own thread.
  4. A rather simplistic view leading into a specious argument with no relevance at all. A hundred years ago we all rode horses, we crapped down holes in primitive wooden buildings, we lost our teeth by 40 or 50 years old. Do these things apply today? No. In a similar vein one cannot compare past immigration policies to those being practiced today. Could someone show me the benefits to Canada in allowing the third cousin of an uncle from one side or another into the country? Not to mention all their relatives as well. Immigration is a fact and I believe it can benefit a country. What we do in Canada is just plain and simply stupid. Someone show me the benefits we derive from our current policy, please. So far all I've seen is a huge growth in corner stores and cab drivers. All of whom claim in fact to secretly be Neurosurgeons and Rocket Scientists. Give us something that works and I'm sure you'll see more across the board support for it. Don't ask people to support idiocy for your own sense of what constitutes a Utopian society. Only a fool would deny that serious flaws exist within our current system.
  5. I wonder if I could get some "I like to look at womens boobies" space created?
  6. Off the top of my head I would say Halloween is one. They don't practice that one in Europe. England has Guye Fawkes night instead, not at all similar. Are you one of these Canadians who don't even know their own culture well enough to recognize it?
  7. You do realize that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, right. Usually its never the majority that want these things, but as we can see from the absurd proposal fielded by Mcguinty (sp?) a few years ago that doesn't matter too much. I don't believe I've ever said the majority are representative of "the Muslim problem", I've always maintained that the problem lies with the extremist/radical element. Thats not to say that I don't see major problems with the faith itself, I do. On the other hand there are problems associated with other faiths as well, just not to the same degree it would appear. I forget where the article on rapes was, I'll try to find it again, it supplied stats, shocking actually. It did not say per capita, I know you wish it had but it didn't. It showed a breakdown of the populace and yes, unfortunately it was a very one sided and damning number. Obviously we don't have the same problem as Europe, is that to say however that it would be unwise to learn from our European breatheren and just not go there? Personally when we moved here from England our attitude was that this was going to be our new country and we damn well better fit in. We didn't ask for any special considerations because we came from a culture that differed from Canada's. Neither did we expect Canadians to stop supporting allies and friends of Canada because we didn't like them. Today however we see protests from various groups because they don't agree with our Nations policies regarding other countries. I do realize that your most fervent wish would be for Canadians to be the Johnny Do Gooders of the world and bend for others until you break. Keep in mind though that although most Canadians are friendly and try to be welcoming, there are limits. This rush to give everything away will only be tolerated to a certain point before a backlash will develop. If you don't think this is true then just observe the whole fallacious concept of Multi-Cult for a prime example. It used to be that people sang its praises for all to hear. Today if you discuss it you will find that most are against it and the public criticism of it grows daily. Rightly so.
  8. Were they attack chickens or just regular chickens?
  9. Oh, you mean to say you want another Liberal government then. They certainly knew how to make Canadians interests the lowest priority of all.
  10. I have to wonder if it is actually disproportionate or is it an appearance of disproportion? Could it be that such things look overblown merely because of the ease with which such information can now be disseminated to a far larger audience than in the past? What doesn't change though is the fact that because one can show compassion towards animals it does not mean that one cares nothing for people. To even suggest such a thing is to display a major disconnect from fact. It is a premise based on vapour, not the reality of the situation.
  11. It appears the topic has wandered a little in this thread. Only the most looney would logically argue against integration. It should be possible for all to agree that lack of integration and thus segregation is a bad thing. Years ago a writer, a black guy from the Carribean wrote an article for Saturday Night magazine. In the article he put forth the idea that if you want to remain seperate from Canadian culture and values then don't come here in the first place. As he said, when you emigrate to another country the intent should be to become an adopted citizen of the country to which you move. The intent should not be to enforce your cultural beliefs upon all around you in this new country you've decided to set up shop in. In other words, no lobbying for Sharia law, no condemnation of the mores of the country you've moved to. Our rampant Multi-Cults and apologists probably wont like hearing that but what he said made a lot of sense. As for the whole rapes in Europe question. Plenty of stats exist to support what is said. Unfortunately its a fact. Perusing the stats shows that the vast majority of rapes are committed by young Muslim males. That may not suit the personal agenda of some but it still remains a recorded fact.
  12. Generally the first one is one year (I think they might have gone to eight months for the first). After that whether its renewed or not is dependent on performance. I did my initial contract then was hired on an indefinite basis subject to annual review. Things might have changed since I left though (three years ago).
  13. What nonsense? The gays in the park or the woman stuck on the toilet for two years?
  14. Because you enjoy watching men kiss?
  15. Personally I think its a bad idea to allow this in a public park. If the laws against it can't be enforced then I suppose its an easy way out of a dilema, I can't see why they wouldn't be enforceable though. Also rather interesting in a very very strange way was the story of the woman stuck on the toilet after two years sitting on it. The link is included with the article about the park.
  16. Did you spend a lot of time thinking about the most innaccurate thing you could say? C'mon, show some proof of your assertion, show a study or thesis that backs up your totally unfounded and ridiculous assumption. I was a disinterested observer until I saw that ridiculous statement, now I would like to see something other than hot air to back it up. Obviously from what you just said you dont know what the hell you're talking about. Just a guess but I'd say that history wasn't your strong point was it?
  17. Spot on. You just nailed it. The reaction that I've sean so far appears to be quite polarized. If you care about animals you obviously don't care about starving brutalized people. I fail to see the connection myself.
  18. Am I the only one here who's hearing the sound of frantic back pedaling right now. Cling to your beleifs brother! Cling!
  19. Nice one. Very basic and generic, very applicable to just about anyone alive today.
  20. Hmmm, didn't see anything about 200 Muslims in the article you linked to, saw a figure of approximately 1%, nothing about 200 though. Why did you provide a link to a post that you had just quoted? Am I missing something here?
  21. Are you making this stuff up as you go along? Once again, show me where I said he deserves death for purse snatching. What I have been talking about is the "European" problem relating to Muslims, hence the reference to Rushdie. No where have I stated that she should be left alone either. You either are being inadvertantly disingenuous or you are displaying the exact same traits as our recently departed member did for your own purpose. If we are going to discuss this it would go better if you would desist from your creative writing efforts and actually stick to what has really been said.
  22. I'm not sure, I think I know why. I think that racism goes beyond the bounds of culture and skin colour. I think racism extends to ideologies and people of the same ethnic background . I would say that the person in question showed the truest form of racism. It was non dependant on colour or place of birth, neither was it based on an ideal of the common good. Just silly ideas and ego.
  23. More and more it's like that SNL skit Celebrity Jeopardy... QUOTE Sean Connery: I'll take months that start with "Feb"...Trebek! Alex Tebek: For how much? Sean Connery: Surprise me you filthy bast*** Alex Tebek: OK...That's completely unnecessary. Months that start with Feb for $800...This is the only month that starts with "Feb." ...Mister Connery... Sean Connery: Febtober. Thanks for posting that DOP, its been so long since I've seen that I'd forgotten about it. Very appropriate to this thread, and totally hilarious.
  24. Agreed 100%, I think it would benefit Canada to do the same.
  25. Noooo...stop, please stop! What I'm hearing hurts! They're really quite simple. The best combination is one of service and user maintenance. The engine should never get to the point where it makes any sort of ticking sound. If it does it means you've run her almost dry. Each time it starts to tick it means you're taking major kilometers off its life for each kilometer driven. The policy we use at our company is actually one I learnt in the forces, a solid planned maintenance schedule. Part of that is each user being responsible for basic preventive maintenance on the vehicle. That means that each person holding a vehicle is responsible for checking the mechanical readiness of the vehicle each day it's used. Thats what our policy says anyway. The reality (policy aside) is that each vehicle is checked at least once every twelve days. The check takes between ten to fifteen minutes, not much really. It helps reduce costs in a major way, when our vehicles go in for service its never for engine or tranny, usually its for workplace abuse (dings, dents) or required replacements (shocks), brakes (quite a bit of the time the guys do the brakes themselves though, simple job.) Overall what I've found though is the same thing the commercials for lube places always tout, regular oil changes and lube jobs will extend the life of your vehicle at least two fold if not more. Also wash the vehicle at least 12 times a year. It really doesn't matter how nice the interior is if the vehicle is falling apart around you.
