so you make every effort not to say the word "motivation" but you talk a lot about someone making an effort to be successful, right? does that not imply motivation? if someone doesn't make an effort, doesn't that imply not being motivated? in another post you addressed lack of good schools and being poor among other thins but, indeed, decided to avoid the word "socioeconomic" like the plague. are poor people not in a socioeconomic group? if what you say is true about black people being able to make it into the "middle class" then why is there such a disparity between black and white people populating the economic spectrum in proportion to their populations? these are really straight forward questions. honestly, we're not confident with you "conservatives" that you won't just pretend to answer by ignoring the actual questions asked.

so its not socioeconomic position? funny i thought you said it was... now you're saying that its a lack of motivation. you seem to back to what you said it wasn't. lets take a simple example. the government funds scholarships to good schools (because in the US its pay to play) for people who have applied themselves and got good grades in poor black neighbourhoods. government overreach? if that student worked at horrendous minimum wages for long periods so that they could go to crappy community colleges then that person would indeed with great effort make it into the lower 40 percentile of earners. but the upper percentiles remain elusive to that sub population. and if that sub population is of color then... well, its a democracy and you can't kick people for wanting a piece of the american dream. of course, this example is different in Canada... because we are more "socialist"! all universities are publicly funded. tuition rates reflect social contracts to engage and are cheap like dirt compared to top US schools. yep, there's a reason that we don't have near as much poverty than the US.
