Dear crazymf, Further, who are we to invade and convert them by the sword? That is a tricky one. Is it on behalf of an oppressed majority, or minority? If only one person out of 20 million want change, is that enough to justify invasion? What would be the parameters of justifying the act?

Dear Cameron, Well said. The problem is, do we wait for 'final judgement' to say what's right or wrong, or do we enact our own 'judgement' (complete with punishment)?

Dear crazymf, I have seen this on a t-shirt before, and I do think it is not only funny, but true. Hawk, If you go back far enough, all of our ancestors were black. Evolution changed us to adapt to environment. Masai warriors are tall and skinny because it disperses heat better. Eskimos are shorter and 'squat' because it helps keep the heat in. One of the oft overlooked definitions of 'Redneck' is that certain 'farmers' and such did not want to take their shirts of while working in the sun, for fear they might get a tan. 'Darkening of the skin' was, to some, extremely undesirable.

Dear crazymf, In Saudi Arabia, the legal maximum sentence for practicing homosexuality is beheading. In China, it isn't officially admitted to exist. Formal charges would fall under 'offensive behaviour'. In the US, many states still can convict under 'sodomy laws' (though it doesn't carry the death sentence). I condemn the act and all religion.

Dear Argus, It isn't the thongs that are so bad, its the wrongful application of them. 'Bum floss' should not be worn by 60 yr. old obese German male tourists. Nonsense. I see kids, teens and young adults of every culture trying to be or dress 'just like 50 Cent' or Eminem'. Gang culture is a US export, glorified there through the media, so it becomes the writing on the 'tabula rasa'. Gotta stop watching TBS, man. Sex and violence sells, so it becomes a selling point to reinforce that which produces profit.

Dear B. Max, Thanks, that website is hilarious. Some insulated old fart saying "If we hear the slightest criticism of our right to bayonetting babies for oil (or lying and saying our 'enemy did it), you must be with the 'terrorists".Canada is a very 'centrist' country, and it is being destroyed by both the extreme left and right.

Layton lacks ability to govern rationally.
theloniusfleabag replied to shoop's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear August1991, I doubt it, for he could never carry it out, even if he tried. The granola vote would love to see some heat on the 'colluding oil companies'. Besides, everyone knows (or almost everyone suspects) that the oil companies have to be in collusion, or they would 'act like a market', and someone would try to cut production or delivery costs and have 'the best prices in town'. But no one does. The record profits (most of the oil being sold today was purchased at $40 or less/bbl) will continue as long as the 'oil companies' all hang together( because they fear they might all hang seperately). -
Dear B. Max, Now, are you saying that becoming like the US is a failure? Or that Canada is a failure on it's own for willingly becoming like the US? I should love to ask our gov't to stop importing anything from the US. We have the resources to be self-sufficient, and we trade valuable resources such as energy and water, and in return get the perverted values of television, glorifying crime and base morality (if any), and Idol worship.

Dear August1991, ..."Turning countries into labour camps, modern slavers in drag as champions of freedom..." (excerpt from Bruce Cockburn's song: "And They Call It Democracy") They do not, or will not, ever allow the 7 cent/hr (maker of most of their products) ever peddle their wares directly, under the Wal-mart roof (like another market) and share the profits. Further, they (not just Wally-World) have direct influence on the market conditions of the manufactuers, (choosing to have them mostly in the 'third world' where labour is cheap by force of arms) and skew things as far in their own favour as they can. I think you have confused 'oligopoly' with 'farmer's market'.

Dear Argus, Well said. The gun registry in a country such as ours really isn't going to stop anything. It is the importation of American culture and values (or lack of them) that is hurting Canada most of all. For people such as B. Max and the other US-worshippers, they should be happy with all the extra guns and killing. We are getting to be just like the US!

43% of Albertan's and 36% of the West
theloniusfleabag replied to rbacon's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Separation will only remain an issue as long as the oil money holds out. After that, Alberta will be back asking Ottawa for increased transfer payments to subsidize farmers, and the corporate head offices will follow wherever the money is, be it back to T.O. or elsewhere. -
Dear B. Max, Wrong. Even 5,000 'well trained' Americans would lose to 5,000 Canadians. Military exercises, in almost every field, prove the superiority of the Canadian soldier or pilot over the US. A larger invasion force probably wouldn't last 1 winter.

I think most of the world has to reluctantly agree with that statement.

Dear Toro, This is taken from http://www.house.gov/paul/tst/tst2003/tst092203.htm While the US gun lobby would like to think that the world revolvers (sic) around them, I think the UN is more worried about the proliferation of military small arms being sold in bulk and cheaply to any third world nation with coin or resources to trade. M-16s and AK 47s are sold by the millions outside the US, at fairs and arms bazaars, to every tin-pot dictator and his dog. This is a much greater concern than anything the US does internally.

Disastor Waiting to Happan

Dear Black Dog, Essentially, yes. Or, if one wishes to add a sprinkle of morality to the soup, then there is 'choice' as well. -

Dear BHS, No, but it was crazymf, Might I refer you to the thread "What is land ownership anyways", where this notion was covered extensively. The UN was created mostly to put and end to the idea of gaining territory by conquest. Most of the world wished that WWII would be the last time territory was gained by conquest. -

Dear BHS, Oregon was ceded to the US to avoid war, in the Treaty of Oregon (1846). There really wasn't any mechanism for 'worldwide condemnation' until this century. -

Dear crazymf, The USA was, once upon a time, to be admired. I miss that old USA. I grew up in the 70's (graduated in early 80's) and that USA is nothing like the one today. Canada was right there, serving with distinction, against the Taliban after 9/11. Some US troops handed over their weapons to Canadian snipers because they respected their abilities so much. However, the Iraqi invasion was seen by most of the world as a 'war of choice' by the US, and clearly the evidence shows that the US was acting solely with their own agenda (nation building or otherwise, they weren't truthful), and not, as they claim, against 'terrorism'. They have done their credibility tremendous harm, which is a shame. If someone is to stand up for freedom, democracy and fairness in the world, it is now going to be harder for the US to make allies for action, because fewer people trust them than ever before.

Monikers with Political Party Names
theloniusfleabag replied to Riverwind's topic in Support and Questions
Dear Argus, The election that saw Campbell defeated was a case of the Canadian voter taking out their wrath against Mulroney, (Lyin' Brian), and at the conservative party. It was an unheard of, record fall from grace. As for Kim being 'too honest', I have to agree. The same thing befell Joe Clark, for he told of tax increases and spending cuts (his infamous 'Stayin alive with 6/5') in order to cut the debt...then along came Trudeau and promised no tax increases...and got re-elected. Then he increased taxes. -
Dear crazymf, If your kid eventually drinks a beer, does that make him/her an alcoholic and the beer hucksters 'scumbags', worthy of burning in hell? (after all, alcohol is far worse than 'the pot')If your position is that 'the worse drug' is ok because the gov't (influenced by the corporations that profit by such a decision) said so, and the 'less harmful drug' is bad because the gov't (and corporations that would profit by such a decision) said so, then I shudder to think that you have 'the vote'.

Dear kimmy, Well, according to wikipedia, I can see her not liking 'Avril Phaedra', but why did she choose 'Kim' instead of 'Doug'? -
Dear kimmy, I highly doubt it. You'll see Micheal Moore down there before you'll see Bush. Only Pro-USA photo-ops, please.
