  1. Not to mention that many of Les Hells are federalists.......
  2. I think part of the problem as to why Canadians are not lining up behind this mission is how it has been packaged for consumption. I think Canadians have the capacity to take the mission seriously, but the gov't chooses to send a small number of troops. We send larger contingents to the Olympics.....Korea for instance, Canada had deployed more than 20,000 troops overall. Now with such a small number takes a fatality, the fatality seems quite large in proportion. It may not be too late, but if the mission is serious and and it is worth the sacrifice and their blood, then send more troops, more armour......
  3. <cue sinister voice> whoooooo...serious problems ...whoooooo....scarey!</cue sinister voice>
  4. This is nebulous and so vast you could drive a double wide through it. For 15 points and a chance to win a divinity scholarship at Metropolitian Church..... Define Judeo-Christian and Moral perspectives, starting with the birth of humanism......
  5. Please name me a multicultural country that is void of national values and the associated leadership required to maintain traditional and historical values which rather instead that chore being left totally to it's population to successfully socially intertwine it's societies many different values and believes and be successful doing so? Is english not your first language? Serioulsy, I'm trying to grope through the syntax here and I'm having difficulty...could I lend you a comma? Maybe it's the looming fallacy in your first sentence...... That being said.....ever heard of Switzerland?
  6. Thing is....Canadian National values are too easily confused with Canadian National Railway share prices.......but, as far as Canadian Values are concerned......I am hard pressed to discover what the differences betwwen the values of my immigrant neighbours and myself. Do we value our parents differently?children? Education? Community? Entrepreneurialism? The democratic process? I grant my hagis is superior to the Rosens or the Tarquirs....but....that's not an issue. I think when someone starts on about "Canadian National Values", you can usually count on one or two things. 1) They haven't really thought about how those values are defined 2) They mean white.
  7. I'm not sure what that means. I don't know about the harbour but I would say ihe's been into the port
  8. What do you suggest as an alternative? I believe the alternative is "now that I got mine the rest of you can bugger off" Multiculturalism is a fact of life...from the time the first gaelic and the french settlers met and exchanged fiddle tunes in Cape Breton to the thai restaurants run by Sri Lankans in Ottawa......
  9. If you wish to make a convincing argument then you should not use hyperbole. There are not "100,000 times more cars on the road" in five days. You are overstating by about 1500 percent. Also, I made the comparison for casulties over FOUR YEARS in afghanistan vs FIVE DAYS on Canadian roads to at least partially compensate for the fact that there are far more drivers in Canada than soldiers in Afghanistan, however the point was the absolute magnitude of fatalities. 100,000 x 2200CNDS in Afghan = 220,000,000 18,500,000 x 2rides x 5days = 185,000,000 not far off at all .....to show how ridiculous the analogy is. In fact there are over 18.5 million vehicles in Canada, and over a 5 day period..each being on the road, say twice per day...well, perhaps now you will get it....
  10. I find his position on the marriage of religious gays in churches that welcome religious gays to be positively Taliban like.......with the slight difference of enforcement ability. Lucky for us we can ignore him and still be good Catholics.
  11. Ummm....what is he supposed to do? Picture Jack trying to be grim and manly....in a pink Harry Rosen dress shirt, at the BC nurse's association........... Getting Jack to support the war on terror would be like getting Harper to support the nationalization of industry.......
  12. I agree.....but for me the Scrivener LCBO is across the street from the Beer store. My question is, Should I start saving my bottles now? And how many bottles would fit into a 5' x 10' x 10' starage locker?
  13. We need more problems like this man.... These are his medals And yes, that is the Victoria Cross
  14. Really?? How so? What we have in Canada is a multitude of Canadians spinning toy steering wheels -- the kind that you attach to children car seats to give them the illusion that they are driving. Are you so confident that those issues can not be re-opened in the same way? I am amazed to learn that Riel was a quebecer.....Or that their is some question about the sovereignty of France...... Oops. Typo. You know and I know I meant Quebec sovereignty, not French sovereignty. No I haven't a clue what you mean or meant.
  15. Are you criticizing Native Royal Hawaiian tradition? Or ancient Egyptian Royal custom? For shame..........
  16. While I for one would love to see a debate on traffic safety....considering there are perhaps 100,000 times more cars on the road in the last 5 days than CNDs in afghanistan....perhaps we should limit the numbers of cars on the road for the next 5 days to 2,500 for better accuracy in analogies...or boosting our troops to 2,200,000 for a week....either or, I'm flexible. Don't you get it? Canadian soldiers dying are worth more sorrow than Canadians dying on the roads. Cmon now. Ummmm.....a little while ago on another board known for their anti-semitic posters there was one poster who belittled the expressions of condolences for a Canadian soldier killed in a traffic mishap in Afghanistan....I didn't understand why he would do that, but...shite, I still don't.
  17. Royal Statistical Society, dontcha know darling. Rather posh posh, all sloan rangers counting their beans and has beens.....

  19. And now statistically the casualties are higher than during the Iraq war. Security has worsed rather than gotten better. And O'Connor said the Taliban cannot be defeated so long as they hide in Pakistan. ummmm......maybe so but statistically, it's an apples and cement blocks comparison. Firstly, this pertains to British Casualties. The Brits were not acting the tip of the spear during the war, but were concentrated around Basrah where, while not pacified, was not the roasd to baghdad. In afghanistan, the brits are on the front line fighting everyday. http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/9-7-2006-107989.asp
  20. Because it will be hard to justify to the public, canadian or american....doesn't mean that the justifcation isn't valid. The first thing that has to be spelled out, the Taliban wasn't removed because they weren't a western style liberal democracy, but because they gave safe haven to terrorists who were attacking us. The same reason applies to why the Taliban can not be allowed to regain power.(For that matter, why we must keep our eyes on other failed nations like Somalia.) If because of our involvement, the long term effect of security is peace and prosperity for the Afghan people, so much the better. But if they decide to live in the dark ages...who are we to forbid it?
  21. Amazing. From reasonable to jackass in two posts. Well done. To know me is to ....awww nevermind
  22. Amazing. From reasonable to jackass in two posts. Well done. If you can show they have a third position, be my guest.
  23. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/1874471.stm The Sauds have very very strict religious police. The difference beteen the Sauds though and Afghanistan....... The government is Afghanistan is there by the popular suffrage of the people. If they choose to live with an extreme representation of the law.....it's there choice. Now whether they will give safe haven to Osama....or those who desire our deaths?
  24. As far as I know, a business can refuse to serve anyone for any reason. Within reason and within the law. You can't refuse to serve someone becuase of the race, etc etc There are some stores in Richmond BC where if you aren't Chinese, you are not welcome. You are not refused, just ignored which amounts to the same thing. And this anecdotal piece of info signifies what?
