We are on the same page then. I won't be apologizing for my pale complexion nor will I be loudly professing my lack of culpability to my fellow privileged club members. However, I think that's below the bar for the least we can do. I think rational conservatism is worth fighting for. Since politics is a popularity contest we have to make it clear to our potential leaders that we will not accept this kind of BS. The racism and misogyny of the far right have to die quickly.

No washing necessary. Just don't expect gratitude or silence from those systematically forced into the gridlock. We, myself included, helped keep people in that gridlock with our own silence. We may not be guilty of the overt sins of Grandad but we silently and politely ignored our privilege and pretended it didn't exist. We can try to take awkward, guilty, comfort in the bystander effect but we shouldn't take pride in it.

The need for the privileged class to proclaim "I will not apologize" in face of need for obvious change. Sure, we all had special access to the HOV lane of life but when people who have been systematically wronged are demanding equal access to the same lane, it is not time to stand up and proclaim your innocence. Sure the lane is exclusive, privileged and fixed and most of us benefited...but let's not go through exercises like this to distract from that fact.

Watching Fox News seems like a SNL parody bit. I wonder if like O'Reilly the rest of the Fox cast is in on the lucrative joke. I expect these guys aren't as stupid as their audience and are only in it for the money. I fully support conservatism but this far right joke is a laughable exercise in recruitment for corporate America's useful, simple idiots.

Kind of like trying to distract from the problem by saying "all lives matter". I think the quote that affected me the most was something like "Your polite silence is a knee on my neck." and you folks aren't even silent.

Also, I think I am happy when the Canadian far right openly display their ignorance and intolerance. It means that they will be bitch slapped back into the sticks faster than it would take otherwise. 

How about acknowledge the privileged some of us poses? I'm not going to apologize for being white and relatively affluent but I certainly had fewer barriers on the path to this point in my life than many others I know.
