  1. You just said that the government wasn't doing anything. That came to my question of whether you had evidence that Harper was not acting. The government is now run by Harper. What else was I to think? It seems to me that the Liberals supported action against further terrorism from Afghanistan and sent troops there to ensure it. They didn't send troops to Iraq which the the Conservatives supported because they didn't believe that Iraq posed the same immediate threat that Afghanistan did. But that is now in the past. As I said, my original question was did you have evidence that Harper was soft on terrorism. You seemed to indicate that you were unhappy with the present policies. For most people, that is a reason why they decide to defeat a government.
  2. Please don't quote scripture to me. I saw him on the record saying what he said against gays. I have a gay brother in law and I think his comments were over the line, don't you? I have not watched a recent Mel Gibson movie since.
  3. So then Harper has failed and it gives one more reason for people to vote him out of office
  4. Perhaps if Israel allowed journalists to be embedded with the troops they'd fair better. After all, the networks just want good pictures and the print people just want good story. The cheerleading would begin immediately.
  5. I don't really believe in a creator. I have no problem with people who do have belief but I don't personally think about god or a higher power.
  6. Is there any evidence that Harper is letting them off the hook in Canada?
  7. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13639813/ Mel Gibson already got a free ride once over his anti-gay comments.
  8. You'll have to name a country that doesn't have some form of transfer payments. I can't think of one including the United States. We are all nations of socialists.
  9. Declaring Hezbollah a terrorist organization doesn't mean we should be sitting in Lebanon waiting for suicide bombers to nail us. Even the Americans aren't dumb enough to drawn back into that country.
  10. That was just the first phase of the withdrawal. Read that article more carefully. Even today some of of the people being evacuated from northern Israel are leaving for the "relative" security of the West Bank.
  11. It's in the constitution now so the only way to eliminate it is to amend the Charter. And the only way to leave the country non-violently is to also amend the constitution.
  12. I started boycotting Mel Gibson's movies when he made Passion of the Christ. I stopped going to his movies when he made Bird on a Wire. <heh> Still haven't seen Braveheart. And never will now.
  13. Exactly. It is a federal program. If it didn't exist, Manitoba could get rid of its Medicare system, completely turn it over to private insurance and have taxes lower than Alberta. That's not possible in Canada because of national standards.
  14. The original intent of transfer payments was to make sure that certain provinces didn't fall below standards nation-wide because their provinces were too big, had too small a population, had fewer natural resources or just had businesses that were highly cyclical like agriculture. I don't think you can assume that provinces that have received equalization are just badly governed provinces. The federal government has always had an interest in ensuring services in the provinces and territories set a certain standard.
  15. You think they went easy on Woody Allen? He was the subject of every front page around the world. They even did a Law & Order episode about it. <heh>
  16. Hard to tell what it means and the reluctance of the poster to be specific doesn't really enlighten anyone.
  17. Its the stranglehold on American policy by this lobby group that is annoying. No other country has been the focus of such a long and complete embargo. It has probably strengthened Castro rather than weakend him. I just wonder what a Cuba under these "democrats" might look like. I think Las Vegas must be quaking in its boots.
  18. A lot of nasty things happened in that war. Yes, it was initiated by Arab countries but Israel lay a thrashing on countries like Egypt including the executions of unarmed prisoners, possibly a thousand or more. And after increasing Israel's size times 3, some made it the Israeli policy to have the land become part of a greater Israel, setting the stage for the conflicts we have now. Israel's security has always been important but their policy on settlers in Gaza and the West Bank was ill conceived.
  19. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14131285/ The celebrations in Miami that he died were over the top. If Cuba does become a democracy, hopefully some of the loudmouth Cubans will go back there.
  20. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/5233768.stm Three British soldiers killed in Afghanistan. I wish there was more evidence of Afghanistan being able to take care of itself.
  21. What there isn't is any point in talking with someone who can make such ridiculous assertions and hope to be taken seriously. It isn't Israel's land. They've tried to to populate it to make it their land but that has proven to be an unsuccessful formula. Don't encourage the abusive language from other people here. Just move on because ultimately, you are not convincing them.
  22. Or Canada. We have a few security certificate prisoners. I don't know if they'll ever be charged.
  23. Ah, as I said. I'm no lawyer. And the girl in Alberta that was charged under this law was eventually released. But it was *very* difficult to say the least. Had newspapers and Tv not taken an interest in the case, it might have been longer. It just seems odd that the people this should have this law appled to them never get designated as such.
  24. The Conservatives reversed that cut that the Liberals made in favour of the GST cut. I agree that exemptions and income tax cuts are more effective though. No one likes the GST but too many companies and governments kept the GST to themselves rather than pass it on to the consumer.
  25. I think that anything to help First Nations in Canada to break the cycle of poverty is good. I do worry about land claims that are on land where the majority of people are non-Native. All of Winnipeg is under claim. And while I don't think the Metis will evict people from the land if they win their case in the Supreme Court, they could still basically end Winnipeg and Manitoba as a city and a province.
