  1. SORRY! I went back and corrected those mistakes! No problem I did say tricky though. <heh>
  2. Charles, Some of the quotes you attribute to me I think someone else actually said.
  3. He might try to force an election. I think they prefer to face Graham as interim leader. I wonder what sort of confidence vote he might try. Some people thought it might be the lumber deal but now that industry is not supporting it, the Conservatives might not bring it to a vote.
  4. Not exactly the position they thought they'be in last year. The generals were squirming in their seats when Senator McCain was grilling them.
  5. A number of people coming up the ranks of the party have no real links to either man now. The country wanted renewal, they'll have party where many of the old war horses are gone.
  6. Move them to another parish?
  7. This is the guy I usually hear on a few rural radio stations commenting on the Conservatives . I included the address because they encapsulate some of what he is says on the radio and in some articles he contributes elsewhere. The latest comments today were how could the Conservatives not ask for a ceasefire when Maronite Christians were getting bombed.
  8. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14197242/ Another bad day in Iraq. Certainly looking more like sectarian violence despite what Rice says.
  9. Many Christian groups aren't happy with the Conservatives either. http://www.chp.ca/
  10. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...02?hub=Politics A CTV article on donations. I think the Globe and Mail released the figures for the Liberal leadership money raised and it does seem like some money is going to the race rather than the Liberal party at the moment.
  11. I wonder how many of them will not want Bush to campaign with them in the fall elections.
  12. Nearly 80% of their population is foreigners. I think they know that their future depends on people coming to their country to do business other than oil.
  13. CTV posted this on their website today. They're saying that the booming economy has affected the quality of life for some some people. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories
  14. Don't know what category this fits in but Warren Moon was sworn into the Football Hall of Fame. In his speach, he strongly credited the CFL with giving a black quarterback the opportunity to play the game. He certainly changed people's attitudes in the United States and to this day remains one of the most exciting figures in the sport. Now, if only we could get some Canadian quarterbacks into the game.
  15. I have no idea. With a minority government, he is not likely to raise a controversial subject if he can help it. He is already having a hard time selling some of policies in provinces that he needs to win next election to have a majority government.
  16. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/04/us.cuba.ap/index.html Rice tells Cubans not to flee to Florida. Yeesh. They can't have it both ways. Either it is a terrible place and all Cubans should go to America or it isn't a bad place.
  17. I guess we'll see when the three next meet. Think Bush might keep it quiet till after the election?
  18. People come up with all sorts of the crazy plans and theories - that does not mean they will ever happen. In the mid 90s there were some pundits who felt the Canadian 'peso' simply could not survive in the new global economy. Those pessimists have since been proven wrong. Very true. Can you imagine if we had fixed the dollar back when some pundits wanted to? A 63 cent dollar? Ouch.
  19. Hmm, well two of those leaders are no longer there. And I haven't heard Bush mention it recently. I wonder if it is as dead a doornail.
  20. I don't know that the U.S. would allow it. I haven't heard of any high level talks on one currency.
  21. Don't get me wrong. There are problems there such as no vote. And if you are a low paid immgrant, it can be awful. But if you are a teacher, nurse, doctor, engineer, businessman...it is probably the most happening place for activity in the world. http://www.dubai.com/ If you look at this Dubai website, it has a picture of a nursing mom. Just this week in the U.S., people went hysterical over a respectable new mother's magazine that showed a nursing mom (pretty much all covered up). This isn't your radical Islamic country. It is something new. If their labour laws improve in the next little while, by far Dubai would be the best place in the Middle East vote or no vote.
  22. That's easy. Dubai. Harper is welcome to his position. It's just that it helps no one.
  23. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/05/Bus...o.ap/index.html Do you think Republicans facing election are going to support it? I was just reading a USA Today story about incumbents getting re-elected 98% of the time. Perhaps they are really scared of any issue. Hmm.
  24. I don't think it means not expressing an opinion on things. I think it means to be careful about taking an entrenched position before all the facts are in. I think Canadians support the right of Israel to defend itself. But we can also observe that they should be cautious about getting mired in Lebanon.
  25. Generally speaking, I think that is correct thing to do. We help when we can with what we can but not lose sight of the fact that we can't fight someone else's civil war or spread democracy to people who seem determined to resist it.
