  1. Everybody, Stop the off-topic banter. Discuss the topic and avoid personal attacks.
  2. He recopied an exceedingly extensive amount of the text with no distinction between it and his own own original contribution to discussion. That is unacceptable.
  3. This thread had degraded into personal attacks devoid of any attempt to discuss politics just like this other thread did. This behavior must stop. Let me remind all of the members of one thing: do not disclose personal information about other members and do not even attempt to indirectly hint at personal information. Publishing personal information about other members is a serious breach of the forum rules. A handful of the posts in this thread were completely deleted because of such violations. If somebody publishes private information about any other member, you should use the Report button associated with the post to let the moderators know and let the moderators handle it. Do not play policeman and do not feed any flames.

  5. Everybody, Stop the personal off-topic nitter-nattering banter. Let me remind you all of the forum rules:
  6. I am not paid and I never was paid and I can not imagine being paid in the future. I enjoyed actively participating in the discussions in the past. Right now, I enjoy what I do as moderator. I am constantly learning from the participation of others. I learn conceptual and empirical politics as well as skills in diplomacy and arbitration. That is more than enough payment for me.
  7. Everybody, Stop the personal insults and banter.
  8. Everybody, Stop the off-topic banter. Discuss the topic in a civil manner. This is a global first warning. Anybody who continues with the banter runs the risk of losing posting privileges or suspension.
  9. Done. N.B. If I do not catch one of these in time (multiple threads that need to be merged), please send me a PM directly or Report the post.
  10. Everybody, Please stop the personal banter and nitter-nattering.
  11. Everybody, Stop the off-topic inflamatory banter.
  12. Guys, Stop with the off-topic banter.
  13. Maybe I am not being clear enough. Redundant threads are not deleted -- they are merged. All of the posts are preserved.
  14. You guys are presenting a formidable challenge! I will step back a little more. When I suspect a new thread is redundant, I will leave it alone for a little while longer and let it evolve. However, I want everybody to continue to Report threads or to send me PMs about your personal opinions on new threads. Please do not think I am ignoring your messages if you do not see an immediate action on my part or if you do not get an immediate reply. Let me comment on a few peculiarities: I am not sure what people want either but often threads like those appear to be nothing more than news-tickers without any original contribution from the poster. Whether people want that or not, I do not think that style fits the mandate of the discussion forum. Agreed. I will not hold back on those situations.
  15. Before creating a new thread, please do a brief forum search to see if there is an active thread discussing the same issue. If there is an active topic, do not create a new one but rather continue your contribution in the previous thread. Recently, there have been several multiple concurrent threads created on the same or similar topics. I have had to merge several -- a lot more than usual. Sometimes I have sent messages to the thread creators and sometimes I have not -- depending on my available time. When you do create a new thread, try your best to compose a brief title which accurately reflects the topic. My suggestion is that you place the most important the keywords in the first title field -- it appears that the search function lends the most weight to that line. Also, make sure that your spelling and grammar are correct in the titles. When you encounter a thread that seems redundant or a multiple active topic, please use the Report Post function to inform us. Several people have been doing so and it is extremely appreciated. There is no automatic function which facilitates sending out a form message to all of the participants in the thread. Therefore, I would have to send individual message and I do not always have the time for that. We have not formalized an objective guideline. Just use your best judgement. That is not a policy in this forum.
  16. There have been some off-topic personal discussions in this thread that border on placing Maple Leaf Web in legal hot water. This thread was pulled temporarily from public view to evaluate the legal implications behind the posts. Some of those posts were deleted. I suggest that all members use their best judgement to avoid any exchange of legal advice be it amateur or professional.

  18. You are correct on both counts. These are in the realm of Greg's responsibility but I can provide some details in the meantime. With regards to the accents, it can be adjusted from the user's end by altering the Character Encoding in the browser settings. I have encountered inconsistent performance across different browsers. Some browsers need to be set to Western (ISO-8859-1) or (ISO-8859-15) and others need to be set to Unicode (UTF-8) for the characters to appear correctly. We will have to wait for a global solution to this recent "update" in the software. With regards to the screen width for guests, this change was indirectly raised before and I do not like it either. Making that change is more technically demanding as it requires altering the layout of the root MLW site. I will draw Greg's attention to it but keep in mind that it is the sort of change that demands a bit more than average time on his part.
  19. It was a cross-post.
  20. That sort of decision is not up to me. Greg, the forum administrator, decides that. Everybody should feel free to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having an Environment subsection. --- NoahBody, You should not re-quote the Opening Post. 21. If you want more help, I insist that we continue through the Personal Messaging function because you will need to convey personal information about your computer and internet configuration. It would not be wise to publish some of this information in the public forums.
  22. Now, do the opposite: Put a check in the Auto correct DST? box and make the Is daylight saving time in effect? box unchecked. Keep your time zone the same. Finally, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Change my Account Options" button.
  23. True but that thread has such a crappy and misleading title. Thank you guys for pointing this out. This thread is an amalgamation of the following two previous threads: All of the posts in each of the daughter-threads are preserved in chronological order in this now merged mother-thread. I think both of the previous titles are poor. The first thread is terribly non-descriptive and completely useless for anybody who wants to search to see if there is a previous thread on the same topic. The second thread is borderline inflammatory.
  24. That could be the case. I would certainly give you the benefit of the doubt. Problems with Daylight Saving Time adjustments have occurred in the past with this forum and other forums that use the same software. The error that you describe often occurs with an individual and not globally across the entire forum. Myself, I am not encountering the problem. Well, since "Pacific Saving Time" is not a direct selection in the forum software and can only be enacted by combining more than one selection of which there are more than one combination -- in other words, there is more than one way to skin a cat -- I am going to insist again that you provide specific information. Do you have (GMT - 8:00 hours) Pacific Time (US & Canada) selected? Yes or No? Do you have the Auto correct DST? box checked or unchecked? Do you have the Is daylight saving time in effect? box checked or unchecked? One more thing: there is a button that says "Change my Account Options" at the bottom of that settings page. Make sure that you click on it after each time you make a selection up above to save your changes. Checking or unchecking a box is not enough.
