Yeah, the search function here in the forum is borked. For the time being, I have to use Google thusly: "conservative attack ads site:http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/" to find stuff. This seems to work very well. There are quite a few previous threads related to this topic. I am sifting through them to figure out which ones to merge. You all can give me recommendations if you wish.

That is categorically NOT the wish of the board. Some members are shy about reporting posts. You should not be shy. You have more power to effect change RIGHT NOW than you realize. Like Greg mentioned, this board is what you make of it and we do not have the time to read every single post. If you read a bad post, report it. If you encounter somebody acting like an ass, report the post and ignore that member. Following that strategy is an efficient method of eliminating the nonsense. I understand exactly what you mean. After you report a post, it seems like nothing happens. In the past, we would send a reply to the person reporting the post. We can no longer do that effectively now. I can assure you that every report is treated seriously. You just have no idea what happens behind the scenes. We communicate with offenders in a manner which may seem lenient but the intent is genuinely to foster diverse civilized discussion. Please feel free to do so.Keep in mind that the nature of our moderation is to err on the side of fostering better discussion as opposed to risking the stifling of diverse discussion. From your vantage point, it may seem like nothing is done. However, the offender may actually be taking a time-out of a week or two without you realizing it. We will warn a member before suspending that member. We will warn again before banning that member. We will ban if there is no convincing intent to smarten up. I hope that helps encourage you to continue participating both in the discussions and in the moderation. If not, go find a better forum in Canada.

Just letting you know that we are still trying to get to the bottom of this missing thread. No answers yet as to why the database is not rendering it.

Everybody, Please be civil in the discussions. Just focus on the issues and avoid personal attacks. If you can not make your point without a personal attack, do not post.

This thread is closed. Next time you start a thread, make sure your Opening Post clearly has a specific topic. State your opinion or start a debate. Not surprisingly, the discussion went all over the place.

I would just like to take this opportunity to let you folks all know that moderating the forums is a team effort. The team is more than just Greg and myself. The team is Greg, myself and all of you. We rely heavily upon the member reports and all of your participation to make appropriate interventions. The aim is to keep things running smoothly with the least amount of public disruption to the forums. I used to be able to respond or acknowledge each of your reports as they came in. However, often things are too busy to allow doing so consistently. Keep reporting posts that you think are inappropriate. We read and balance them all. Thanks.

GH is right. Do not feed trolls. Just report them and ignore them.

G, I love the MLW template integration. This finally LOOKS impressive. Good job! Aside from the fact that this forum, the newspapers, comments, pub discussions, et cetera are all non-quantifiable concepts -- the esoteric point of which is that whatever constitutes "larger" as opposed to maybe "smaller" borders on a tautological significance (How do you measure them? Who gets to decide the standard of measurement and comparison?) and is in the eye of the beholder, I think you might appreciate one difference: here in the forum you can simultaneously comment on a G&M article as well as an article from other sources. In the comments section of an online newspaper, you are pretty much limited to commenting on the one article.

Everybody, Just discuss the issues in a polite and civilized manner. Stop the banter, stop the nitter-nattering and stop the insults. If that nonsense continues, your posting privileges will be suspended. Ch. A.
