  1. That thread was taken down for the reasons expressed already. However, you were not suspended for posting that thread. You were suspended for a different reason. Please read your inbox because the explanation is there. I have sent it to you again. ---- Anyway, back to the OP question. The idea of debates came up nearly a decade ago but nothing came of it. I can not imagine how to choose who would qualify for participating. Any suggestions? Ch. A.
  2. What is up? I am a mod and I got no emails nor PMs. To whom did you send them? Ch. A.
  3. Folks, If there is anything unclear about the use of images, please refer to the recent discussion called Images. Ch. A.
  4. --- because that made the difference between getting a warning and getting a time out. The intentions and motivations behind your actions do not enter into the equation. As moderators, we are dealing with numbers because there are a lot of folks here and a lo9t of nonsense gets posted. You are lucky to have only got 2 weeks. As Greg said above, if we have to repeatedly warn you of the same thing, you are going to get a time out. For what it may be worth, I hate it as much as you do but the VAST MAJORITY of people who get warnings, acknowledge what they did and change their future posting behavior. That is what we want from every single member. You are not likely going to get a lot of support for your complaint. It is not. That is not why the image was deleted. The image was deleted because it was clutter and did not add to the debate. Your question demonstrates what happens when clutter is posted in the forum: it distracts and confuses the debate!! QED Go ahead! Read the stuff I posted in the past and try to find a political purpose behind it. However, I warn you: I have hardened up since then! I really have to chuckle at your suggestion. The accusation of moderator bias gets bandied about every once in a while. Unlike Greg, I do not think there is a fair mix of ideologies. From my perspective, most of you all sound the same. There is very little fresh posting in this forum that even approaches my "political purposes" whatever they may be. Behind the scenes, I routinely remind Greg that the vast majority of people who get banned here from the forums promote uncommon ideologies and beliefs that I genuinely hold. So far, that statistic has only risen with time. Can you believe that? In fact, over the time that I have been moderating, these banned-members have changed my political beliefs through their messages, arguments and opinions on various aspects of politics. Unfortunately, they get banned because their expression is uncivil and they repeatedly snub the forum rules. I understand how debate gets heated and people mix humor with insult. I get that. However, we have to keep things civil to the best of our ability. MORAL OF THE STORY: If we have to tell you once or twice, that is ok. If we have to tell you more than once, that is not ok.
  5. BUMP Indeed. Folks, If you post an image with none of your own writing to accompany it, your post will be deleted without warning. If you post an image with a feeble attempt to accompany it with your own writing, your post will likely be deleted without warning as well.
  6. Folks, I am fed up of the personal attacks and third-party insults that you are all posting. I genuinely understand how debate can get heated and spirited. However, you all have to tone things down and I do not have the energy to send out any more silly warnings to people who should know better. So, I am going to try something different. I am locking this thread with the expectation that each one of you will spend more time thinking about your next replies and expressing them in a more civil fashion. I do not think that should take long. With the rest of your time, you can re-read your previous posts and figure out how you could have got your message across without resorting to personal attacks. I will re-open the thread later. Ch. A.
  7. .... it was in violation of the forum rules and guidelines concerning trolling, flaming and third-party insults. If this is not obvious nor self-evident to you, then I encourage you to review the forum rules and guidelines before you participate further in this forum. The title of this discussion has been changed to Petition to change the name of "Victoria Day" so that it may accurately reflect the subject matter.
  8. Everybody, Stop making personal attacks in the discussions. Just post about the topic and ignore the characters. Ch. A.
  9. Everybody, I am locking this thread so that I can peruse all of the childish personal attacks. I will open up the thread when I am done. In the meantime, post in other discussions and try not to make personal attacks. Ch. A.
  10. No. It is none of your business. If you follow the rules yourself and ignore people who do not follow the rules, then you will be fine. Ch. A.
  11. This thread is being locked temporarily for us to sort out this mess. In the mean time, please avoid personal attacks folks. They ruin it for everybody. Ch. A.
  12. Yes. BC2004 is correct. They are against the forum rules. When you encounter them in the forum, report the post and ignore it.
  13. Everybody, Please stop prefacing your commentary with personal attacks. Ch. A.
  14. It sounds like Google is delivering this link to you. Why are you doing a Google search for MLW?
  15. Ladies and gentlemen, PLEASE stop the personal attacks. Ch. A.
  16. Everybody, Stop the personal attacks. Please just discuss the issues or do not discuss at all. Ch. A.
  17. Not particularly. I think we should focus on perfecting what we got right now. From my end of the responsibility spectrum, it means trying my best to moderate the discussions properly and timely. That is not easy. I am finding that the nature of the nitpicking that is going on is more challenging to moderate than it was before. I am not sure whether my attitude is changing or what but that is how I am perceiving things. I say we should be bold and invite a politician or some important character to join our discussions as is. I see no intelligent nor responsible reason why there should be a special section for them with only verified identities. Here is my brilliant idea: People with verified identities (as determined by Greg and Greg alone) would have a star beside their handle name.
  18. Vote on the winner? Sigh. I have been hesitant to share my thoughts on this discussion because they only get worse and worse. This last one takes the cake. Forgive me but I am a bit of a black sheep here on this topic. I think all of these ideas are dumb but I suppose they could conceivably be fun.
  19. Everybody, Stop the personal attacks. Anybody who posts personal attacks runs the risk of having posting privileges suspended. Ch. A.
  20. That sort of thing has been happening all of the time. There is nothing new nor interesting here. If you can not trust the mods to be able to see through all of that pot-stirring sort of behavior, that is too bad but all you have to do is report forum violations whenever you encounter them and ignore those members. That still works best with or without your faith. Problems arise when people choose to respond in kind and then they counter-stir-the-pot by reporting a post after having jumped into the fray. You would be amazed at how many people unwittingly engage in this sort of counter-stirring nonsense instead of just ignoring the initial forum violation.
  21. Hmmm..... that is a tough question to answer. I never really thought of the situation that way.Once the report is made, the "Why?" never enters my thinking process. I just move on to investigate the report. No. It is just a matter of perspective.
  22. Ok mom. He is right. That is what we expect here. Please review the following threads: Using the [ Quote ] Feature: and Trim Your Posts and Quotes
  23. It could be an incompatibility with the Text Editing mode. August, When you are in the "Reply to this topic" editing window, toggle the switch in the top left corner. When your mouse hovers over that button, it should say "Toggle editing mode" in a little pop-up window. Click on it and it should switch you to plaint text mode. Plain text mode is usually most compatible with all text editors.
  24. No. It does not save bandwidth and saving badwidth is not an issue. The Multi-Quote format is commonly the preferred method. That is all. It really does come down to a difference in aesthetic opinion.
  25. Perhaps you are using the IE9(32-bit) version on a computer that is 64-bit? Just a guess. If so, then switching to the 64-bit IE may resolve the problem.
