    It is the MLW way for adults to keep the peace. Not all of you are in agreement over who is a "troll" and who is not. You think you are but you are not.

    You know what? The same could have been said about me too when I first joined. Its also sad that some cant help themselves from posting half truths, untruths, bogus made of shite and the rest.It is even more sad that some people can not help themselves from feeding people-they-believe-are-trolls while simultaneously complaining about trolls. Here at MLW "valid" opinions are (a) clearly stated/conveyed/understood opinions and ( politely expressed opinions. Beyond that, the concept of validity as applied to the concept of opinions is a fiction that does not exist outside of the individual human mind. IN many cases your hunches would have been correct.Perhaps. As you know, it is easy to mask IPs these days. I understand following posting patterns and writing styles. As moderator, I am not comfortable acting on just my hunches when a member's posts otherwise do not break the forum rules and guidelines. To what end? I have never recommended banning somebody without some objective evidence. I would rather NOT make a mistake. Greg knows it and expects such from me. If I was engaged in the discussion, I would probably just ignore the person I suspected of multiple accounts and perhaps encourage others to do the same. If people disagreed with me, who am I to stop them from conversing civilly?

    Please provide a screen shot if you can. I am on Firefox too but on a linux box. Things look fine to me.

    Consider addressing the issue for a different audience. Would you consider re-hashing or "defeating" him again for the umpteenth+1th time for the sake of other readers who may be keenly following your discussion and interested in learning your truth? Is it more important to express your unseen victory? than to share your truth-which-brings-about-your-victory with a wider audience. There is nothing particularly interesting about most trolls. Trolling is not the worst thing a member can do. Be that as it may, I find it peculiar to see how people choose to respond to what they perceive to be trolling. Relax. We slept in that day.

    Folks, Stop the personal attacks. Rue is right. I do not care what angle any one of you takes on this discussion. The next person who posts a whiff of a personal attack or a hint of playing the player instead of playing the ball will take a time out. If you need help, here is a challenge: Post in such a way that ANYBODY reading your contribution can be expected to intelligently understand what you have to say without having to know the identity of ANY PERSON who is part of the discussion.     Elder or bartender? I liken this place to a pub. People come and go. People get suckered into conversing with the town drunk while others wisely step away snickering. Rowdy folks are kicked out until they sober up. Some people stick around until closing hour while others go hopping elsewhere. Life goes on and most people do not take things personally. I am disappointed because you did not adequately answer my question: What data would enter such an analysis? Number of postings can not possibly be it, can it? If I am wrong, please explain. Forgive me but I fail to follow your conclusions and I see no reason to accept your axioms. How can you conclude that members seek status? let alone that they seek anything at all? or to the exclusion of seeking other things? How do you define status? How do you observe status? How do you observe they are seeking something? I do not see the "village" dynamics you envision but I am still curious because I share some of your abstract fascination too. Can you refer to any study/analysis that was conducted on any other forum? I want to see such methodology because from my perspective, I do not believe your posited analysis is methodologically possible. You clearly seem to think it is possible and I do not understand why.

    Do you know any? If you know any women who would be so inclined, tell them yourself. Tell them to join and participate in the discussions. Can you offer some references to such analyses? I have never heard of any and I am curious to learn their methods. My curiosity is fueled largely by skepticism because socially, I see this place the same way as I see my local watering hole --- no more and no less. We just happen to discuss things that popularly fall under the label of "politics" a lot. If you commissioned me to do such a study, I would not know how to start ---- even with Moderator privileges. From my perspective, I can not imagine how somebody/anybody would conduct a responsible analysis with the expectation of arriving at any intelligent conclusion. What observations or data would enter the analysis?

    Nothing. There is no study. There is no paper. You are not rats. This forum is just a remnant of a previous project that stopped operation a few years ago. Greg has chosen to keep the site active for everybody's sake. Yes, Greg would want to see an increase in web traffic but not at the expense of the quality of discussion. Me? My expectations of the board are only slightly higher. I expect to be able to continue reading lively and good-quality discussions by my fellow Canadians until the day I die without having to participate in them myself. I have no other vested interest nor obligation. I do not know how to respond. You clearly do not know the details. Half of what you wrote is false. I totally disagree with the other half. All of it is none of your business. I do not know how to respond without being rude and without being misconstrued. All I can tell you is that when folks are clearly making stuff up while simultaneously passing it off to the world that it is true (or in this case, worthy of consideration) then I get confused and I lose interest in communicate with them. I focus on what matters in the decision-making process as moderator and I default to deal-breakers. The deal-breaker here is that I do not have permission from those members to discuss their issues with you. It would be different if you demonstrated 1st hand knowledge in the matters but that is obviously not the case. I would afford you the same respect if you were in their shoes.

    Two reasons: 1) they had nothing to do with the discussion 2) they were not what you purport them to be -- i.e., they were not anti-Israel threads -- i.e., you misrepresented somebody else's writing. What type of consistency do you want? MH explained his actions and they make perfect sense.

    I think MH is doing a great job. Yes, you are clear. You disagree with how we handle things. Starting fights? I suppose you could look at it that way. That is not the only analogy. If you have a bar and some drunk starts shooting his mouth off, 99% of you guys will laugh, turn around and walk away. Then you turn back and laugh at the loser who gets stuck talking to the drunk. I scroll back before sending out a warning. Most often, it does not take much scrolling to figure it out. You usually catch things quick and send out a message to the member. When someone reports a post, I scroll back through the thread to review the trail of the discussion. It is not that difficult to see where/when/who crossed the line to instigate disruption. Half of the reports sent to us are frivolous in the sense that the person reporting is the one who instigated the disruption and is clearly in denial. Most often, you guys do a good job of side-stepping the personal jabs and continuing the discussions. When it is clear that you all got past whatever, we leave you be. The following is going to sound condescending but I believe it is food for thought: Some of you guys misunderstand the messages conveyed by your fellow members and dismiss them as trolling when they are not. Too often, you attribute malicious intent to a desire to say the brutal truth.
