The problem with increasing CPP is it pays a terrible rate of return--about 1% after compounding for 40 years with retirement at 65 and collecting for 20 years. The rate of return is a disgrace. If the government was paying CPP recipients the same rate of return we're paying the public sector benefits would increase by 250-300%.

I guess you choose to be a stooge of the CBC. I guess you choose to condone corruption.

How much is it costing? Are trials cheaper by the dozen? Mac Harb's trial is scheduled for January, then there are these to consider: Here is a list of Liberal senators currently in trouble: Liberal senator Rod Zimmer: $176,014 (appointed by Paul Martin, retired) Marie Charette-Poulin: $131,434 (appointed by Jean Chretien, retired) Rose-Marie Losier-Cool: $110,000 (appointed by Chretien, retired) Sandra Lovelace Nicholas: $75,207 (appointed by Martin, sitting) Nick Sibbeston: $50,102 (appointed by Chretien, sitting) Colin Kenny: $37,000 (appointed by Pierre Elliott Trudeau, sitting) Terry Mercer: $29,338 (appointed by Chretien, sitting) Joe Day: $19,634 (appointed by Chretien, sitting) Bill Rompkey: $17,292 (appointed by Chretien, retired) Vivienne Poy: $15,317 (appointed by Chretien, retired) Robert Peterson: $11,493 (appointed by Martin, retired) James Cowan: $10,397 (appointed by Martin, sitting) Elaine McCoy: $10,298 (appointed by Martin, sitting) Sharon Carstairs: $7,528 (appointed by Chretien, retired) Pana Merchant: $5,500 (appointed by Chretien, sitting)

So, according to some people repayment of $90K of allowable although unethical expenses is bad whilst refusal to repay $2.7m of falsely claimed and never allowable expenses is good because in one case it is the CPC and the other it is the NDP. Doesn't anyone else notice the hypocrisy of it all? I've read the emails. You left wing ideologues are only good at character assassination The Duffy trial isn't catching anyone's attention except you desperate HDS .

Elections are a popularity contest for the clueless, who happen to outnumber the clued in. Sad but true, we will witness the end of the democratic experiment in our time. I hope to be wrong.

Just remember Michael: when oil prices continue to collapse, when new "green taxes" and freezes on infrastructure are implemented, when the Keystone and Energy East pipelines are axed; when your TFSA savings are suddenly taxed and all other taxes are raised; when a Carbon tax is added onto that to further suppress the economy; when you finally loose your job but still have to pay for "universal daycare" even though you're now at home with a long stack of resumes to send out ... remember that Justin really, really cares for you with all his heart. -
The CBC's involvement is the most troubling. They're no different than a public sector union that campaigns in an election. At least public sector unions tell us were they stand and make no bones about who they oppose; there's no ambiguity there. I wish CBC journos would be as forthright and upfront. CBC should be barred from covering all federal election campaigns because of their glaring conflict of interest, standing to gain millions from the defeat of the CPC when the next budget is presented by Libs, NDP or a coalition of the two. With more funding for them, how could that not possibly colour their news coverage of this election??

Ontario's ORPP - What's Your Opinion?
socialist replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I cannot stress enough the importance of the ORPP issue. People are so apathetic to it. This is their future, their retirement. Once you get there, there is no turning back. I can guarantee that the money will be taken, yet 40 years down the line there will be nothing left. Wynne has already promised to spend it, rather than invest. Roads and teachers unions don't pay interest. She will be long gone and retirees will be left empty handed. Harper knows it. I know it. Sadly those who are blissfully unaffected control this province. -
Ontario Liberals and the Federal election
socialist replied to Ash74's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I agree. Thanks to Wynne the Conservatives are ahead in Ontario and Ontario has had its foul taste of the NDP, so that is not an option. Being selfish, the Federal Conservatives have been the only government currently in power that has not affected me. The Ontario Liberals have caused a direct hit on my finances and there is more to come. What other choice is there in the federal election? -
While you blame Harper for all your ill wills, remember the pension plan is another hair-brained scheme brought to you by the Ont libs, added it to all the others: Do you blame HArper for al these? - The Ombudsman/Auditor-General condemnations - Turning Hydro into a luxury for the rich - The by-election briberies - The refusal to correct foreign ownership of our beer market - The outrageous property assessments - The stifling of private health services - The illegal and unconstitutional secret G20 law - The acceptance of garbage-striker extortion - The hospital consultants scandal - The Niagara Parks Commission scandal - The tire tax - The electronics tax - The cheap beer surtax - The hidden hydro tax - The planned hidden gas tax - The 'Eco' tax - The auto pension bailouts - The Nortel pension bailouts - Will we soon add defending & appointing a traitor to a high level position in her cabinet to McWynnty's list of debacles? Time will tell. - No reduction in HST despite $4.3 Billion from the feds - The EHealth scandal- 1billion - The slush fund scandal - The lottery corp scandals - The CancerCare scandal - The MPAC scandal - The Children's Aid scandal - The forcing of WSIB on all construction owners - The failure at Caledonia - Selling out to the teachers & civic unions - The blatant Nanticoke lie - The squandering of record revenues - The nanny-state banning of nearly everything - The public funding of sex-changes while de-listing eye exams phsyio & chiro - The harassing labour inspectors - Dumping the blue box program onto small businesses - Imposing blood alcohol rules that punish the innocent - The $58 Million 'severance' to tax-collectors who didn't miss a single day's work - Socialized daycare - Cancelling the 'mandatory' LHIN review & giving their CEO's $15000 raises- The failure at Caledonia - Sneaking tax-dollars into Liberals campaign team coffers - Raising tuition & auto insurance to highest in Canada - Sinking Ontario into Have-Not status. --The billion point something dollar flip-flop on The Oakville gas plant - Ornge- 1.3 billion - Windsor Parkway- 1.4 billion - PanAmGames- 2.5 billion as of Sep & counting - 6- Wind turbines & solar panels......also over paying farmers for the land &/or KWs produce, who knows how much $ this one will cost in the end - Paying others to take our excess power... - MaRS- >1.1 Billion add at least a risky $224 million loan to the MaRS Discovery District to bail out the new phase two tower. - The 'smart meter' tax - Financing 74 infrastructure projects through private-public partnerships has cost taxpayers at least $8 billion more in borrowing and other expenses than if they had - The push for CFL light bulbs that will poison Ontario's waters & residents with mercury - 90% of the wind turbine welfare went to just 11 companies, 80% of the subsidies went to nine companies with annual revenues over $1-billion, 60% of the subsidies went to six companies -Bill 15, enacts amendments to the Insurance Act (Ontario) that discriminate against Ontario’s most injured accident victims by cutting their medical and care benefits by one (1) million dollars each - The upcoming Ontario pension plan tax even though McWynnty has no idea how much it costs, how many people will be in the pool for the ORPP tax, also not explaining how the F this new tax being used on infrastructure could possibly create a return for the people forced into it. - The upcoming carbon tax - Stating that all public sector deals will be net zero due to the fiscal mess, the McWynnty libs played the largest part in putting us in, then turning around & breaking the election promise by giving sweet deals to Hydro One, teachers soon to come & we'll see. All this while hospitals are being forced to let go of nurses and other staff even though wait times are horrible & the system is already too ineffective. Don't let facts get i your way though, mighty ac. Turning a blind eye makes your ideology seem fine. - MAKING ONT THE WOLRD'S MOST INDEBTED SUB-SOVEREIGN BORROWER!

Ontario Liberals and the Federal election

Ontario Liberals could run a lemonade stand, just not in the same way you or I know lemonade stands. They'd drink all the lemonade, send the bill to taxpayers, then attempt to privatize the business after running it into the ground. -

Harper is a strong leader. Some may feel that he's a bit over the top, but no one should be questioning his leadership skills. Has there been another politician in 50 years that have stepped up to the plate to make the tax system more fair to families that look after their own kids? Not one...until PMSH. -

Ontario's ORPP - What's Your Opinion?
socialist replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
For the first time in human history a special selective tax on non-unionized workers is invented. Not too many of this kind of taxes have ever existed. I can only compare this Machiavellian tax to the tax on childlessness existed in the former USSR and a tax on bribes taken by government officials in the Ottoman Empire. -
Harper isn't even reducing transfers. He is merely reducing the rate of growth in transfers. Health transfers, for example, will grow at the rate of GDP growth, except with a 3% per year guaranteed minimum increase. Ontario has been increasing health spending at only 2.2% per year, so the feds will still be increasing their funding faster than the actual provincial health budget is increasing (i.e., the federal share of Ontario's health spending will grow even under the new formula, and has been growing very significantly with the roughly 6% federal transfer growth rate up to this year).

Ontario's ORPP - What's Your Opinion?
socialist replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I'm not convinced this thing will ever lift off, not when Wynne is struggling with costs for green energy and all-day kindergarten, a looming confrontation with teachers, a very public battle with Harper (she is out of her league here) and now, China signaling that we are headed into global deflation...the worst fear of spendthrift governments. -
Ontario's ORPP - What's Your Opinion?
socialist replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Key word: "Tax Credit" The Harper government believes that money left in the taxpayer's pocket is far better than any money given to an incompetent, corrupt government to squander on paying off their handlers and building pet projects. You would prefer a government pension plan because you apparently don't have the ability to make it to the bank with 2 pieces of ID and open a TFSA -
Companies are sitting on cash instead of making investments in property and advanced equipment, for one simple reason, cash is much easier to move offshore than hard assets. In the economic climate in Ontario and Quebec where two "progressive" governments are racing each other to the bankruptcy court, who can blame them. As for your statement on who taxpayers money belongs to, I think you will get some pretty strong disagreement at the doorstep if you tried to peddle that line. Harper rightly cut the HST and EI rates because this directly benefited the taxpayer, not some "progressive" free loading carpet bagger.
-
You conveniently neglected to mention The Conservatives (Harper) reduced the HST twice from 7 to 5%. They also reduced the EI tax to the amount they needed to run the program leaving more money in taxpayers pockets. Liberals take surpluses and squander them on vote buying pet projects, which some greasy Liberal always seems to get a cut.

Ontario's ORPP - What's Your Opinion?
socialist replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Estimates were between $130-$200 per person. So the government will collect 1.9% of your income ($90,000 max) of which a percentage will be spent on bureaucracy. The median family income in Ontario is $76,510. This means that an additional $1453.69 in ORPP taxes will be taken from the median family in Ontario of which only 86-90% will actually get invested. And that is if they hold the line on the cost per person numbers and we all know how well the OLP holds the line on spending. If they are stating it is $200 per person you can bet that it will end up being $500. -
Ontario's ORPP - What's Your Opinion?
socialist replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
This will be the final nail in the coffin to bankrupting Ontario. From have to have not, from triple AAA credit rating to 2 revisions downwards, from the state owning assets to now selling assets (Hydro One) to satisfy lenders, and with the high cost of business in Ontario from this new payroll tax there will be fewer jobs. Liberal policy has ruined the financial health of this province and the youth of today will be the ones who pay for it. -

The more money Wynne can take from you now, under whatever pretenses, the better so she can give to her union friends that supperted them in the election.
