All anyone needs is to follow simple hygiene rules. WASH YOUR HANDS. Unfortunately most humans do not and pass on their dirty germs.
Yeah, seriously.
I don't agree with the paranoia that you shouldn't shake anyone's hand (if you are healthy) as the media has been reporting lately.
But if you ARE sick, stay at home as much as possible, don't shake people's hands and for the love of God cover your mouth when you cough. If everyone did these very simple things, illnesses would be cut down dramatically.

Internet Explorer sucks anyways

I take it no one has a burning desire to see what the site map looks like. It also seems the search button next to the site map is rendered inoperable by the size of the bird. Maybe it's just my system that's causing that.
Mine is fine (I'm using firefox).
What browser are you using? Maybe that's what is causing problems?

It's not that annoying, but I certainly wouldn't miss it if it were gone.

Swine flu has been around for about a year, plenty of time for your government to get a vaccination developed
The outbreak started towards the end of March of this year...that's about 7 months.
Considering that it takes time to produce a vaccine for millions of people, and that's on top of the regular seasonal flu vaccine, and that the virus could easily mutate making the vaccine useless, I guess the question is...what would you have done differently?

I agree that the stimulus money is a case of rural ridings getting more than urban ridings.
However, I disagree that this is anything new. I'd be interested in seeing some figures, but I suspect that more government money has always gone to rural ridings per capita than urban ridings.

We also have a "kick-a-kitten-for-distance" sporting league. It's only amateur right now, but we're hoping it will be an Olympic demonstration event by 2014.
That's odd, I would have thought it would have been more of a summer sport.

Good post. Ok, I didn't read all of it but I skimmed most of it, and from what I've read I like it.
If you get a party started and run a candidate in my riding, I'll consider voting for you.

It's not a bird, it's a cockatoo. It's only function is to cry for attention, at any hour, at a volume of about 120 decibels. Have you ever heard a cockatoo squawking? It is like an air-horn with feet.
They keep it downstairs near my suite because it is simply too obnoxious to be upstairs with their family.
Why not just tell your landlord that it bothers you...and if they refuse to remedy the situation, sue.
that, subject to section 23, neither the landlord nor a person having a claim to the premises under the landlord will in any significant manner disturb the tenant’s possession or peaceful enjoyment of the premises -
fewer parties = less democracy...it'll be a sad day if we were to end up like the US two party system...
Personally I'd like to see a good variety of different parties, but with more cooperation between parties on issues.

You do realize that there are no "right" or "center-right" parties in Canada? The Conservatives are center-left, the Liberals are considerably more center-left, the NDP are out in left field and everyone else makes the NDP look like they're in the middle of the spectrum.
Left of what? Left vs. right is all relative, so by definition you can not have only left-wing parties.
It would be like saying there is an Central-Eastern Canada, an Eastern Canada and a far Eastern Canada.

I can't think of a newspaper except the Toronto Star that endorsed the Liberals.
Wikipedia gives a good summary
A lot more newspapers endorsed the Conservatives than the Liberals.
I get a kick out of people complaining about the so-called liberal (or Liberal) media.

Letterman's top ten is usually not very funny...they should really change it to a top 3.

Sort of like when radio stations refused to play the Dixie Chicks' music, eh? Those damn Left intolerant socialist Bush supporters!
Or when Republicans didn't want Obama to speak to school children because he was going to try to brainwash them with socialism.
-
True. Let's see how the rest of the week unfolds. It is the trend that will be interesting.
Agreed. Although, we might not see the full effect of an early election call unless an election is actually called, and it's quite possible that one of the opposition leaders will prevent that from happening. I thought it would have been Duceppe, but then again the most recent poll has them at 49% in Quebec.
-
And yet the pollster says himself that if the Liberals want to break free and change the dynamic, this is the way to do it.
Pollsters can sometimes be wrong.
-
If the Liberals do better in the election as a result of being strong in opposition, it is hard to think that is wrong. Don't you think?
The latest poll would suggest that's not the case.
-
Damn. I was hoping for a thread on Obama's attempts to indoctrinate schoolchildren to socialism with his back-to-school speech.

This is the argument I have been making for a while. At some point, the party had to ask itself if the thoughts from the electorate were contradictory. If the only way for the party to overcome the label of weakness and differentiate themselves from the Tories was to oppose but no one wanted an election, there was no way anyone would be happy.
Liberals had to ask themselves if the electorate was going to punish them for doing their job even if an election was the result. Internal polls seems to tell them it is a gamble but one they cannot afford to delay until Harper calls the next election. And knowing Harper that will be before the term limits.
I think the only explanation is that the people who called Dion weak for not defeating the government are the partisans who will criticize the Liberals no matter what they do. I remember having this debate with many Conservative supporters who argued that Dion was weak for not defeating the government, but also didn't want an election. Partisanship is the only explanation I can think of. The average Canadian doesn't want an election, and knows that you can't have it both ways. This is why I think Dion's approach was the right one and Ignatieff's approach is wrong.
If Canadians want to punish the Liberals for being "weak" (which sounds crazy to me), so be it. At least they are doing what is right.
-
If that is true, that says something very strange about voters.
"We don't want an election, but we want you to force an election because if you don't we will think you are weak."
-
I think what we need at this stage is to fill Parliament with as many independent MPs as possible. Just down the parties! One thing I could support would be the requirment that all ballots must have an empty line at the bottom where we can write the name of whom we wish. That way, if we know someone in the community who we think would do a good job, but who's just not political enough to run for office, we could still vote him in. I can't imagine the government supporting such a ballot though. Too democratic.
Hear, hear!
-
I wonder how Ignatieff suggesting that he wants to bring down the government will affect the polls, or whether many people even noticed.
Looks like I have my answer:
The survey, conducted by Strategic Counsel for CTV and The Globe and Mail, puts Conservative support at 35 per cent of voters. The Liberals are at 30 per cent. The NDP are at 14, the Greens at 9 and the Bloc Québécois at 12.Am I the only one who misses Dion? He was often criticized for being "weak" because he didn't want to defeat the government and force an election. I don't think there is anything weak about not forcing an election that no one wants.

Harper doesn't negotiate.
Agreed. Like I said, I must be dreaming, but wouldn't it be nice of politicians did work together?

So if she didn't wear the hijab in Pakistan, you would be criticizing her right now??
