  1. Maybe half of CPCs are religious and the other half are not, big deal.  I've met many christians who are definitely not conservative, it's no scale to predict their leanings.  I'll bet a big portion of the Liberal MPs are religious too, but the Vancouver Sun doesn't worry about them.

But the use of phrases like bible thumpers, religious zealots, gay bashers and lesbian haters is concerning, and Norman has used these in describing Christians.  I object to these hateful descriptions and think Norman should grow some of this tolerance if he's so concerned about it in the CPC.

Care to respond Norman, or are you going to ignore this as you have other comments?

Excellent response, repetitive comments like that are a bit worrisome, indeed, borders on intolerance.

I've been watching Norman's characterizations of Christians, and the weight of all of his previous posts does not match up with his most recent explanation above. But it's good to at least be aware of his intolerance.

  2. I think the pressure is gettiing to you Norman, but for the record I am not shoop. So if 2 conservatives both think you're wrong, it's a conspiracy? However, I invite you to mosy over to the thread you started on the Conservatives containing 50% religious types. You have some 'splanin to do.

  3. Have you ever seen when two competing gas stations are next to each other? There are plenty of times when one drops its price lower than the other. Even if it's only one cent, sure enough that gas station will get all the traffic until the other one drops its price too. It's human nature even though it may only save them a quarter.

This GST announcement will have the same effect on voting day. That's why Martin was so quick to denounce it. If he copied it, it would look defensive and weak, so he has to criticize it. It's the one tax he couldn't touch because if he made any promises about it, he would get nailed for the Liberals broken promise back in '93.

  5. It's no surprise that small c conservatives and others who don't like the direction the party has taken will come out and snipe at Harper. Happens in politcs all the time. Closer to the election date when their comments will have more effect, others will come out in favour of Harper.

After over a decade of a liberal agenda, we need social conservatism in Canada and Harper is just the guy to bring it on. :)

  6. the environmentalism movement has been tremendously successful in most modern free countries. (For instance, the founder of Greenpeace quit the organization in the 80s, I believe becuase all his goals had been met.) But instead of going to protest countries that ignore environmental practices like most African dictatorships, China, Russia and the like, environmentalists are content to stay at home and grumble about Alaska drilling. I'm still waiting to see protestors in China chaining themselves to the site of the industrial accident that caused that huge chemical spill, but it'll never happen. That's where the worst offenders are but they'll stay here and riot during those world trade conferences instead.

  7. Uh, Norman, did Harper say that on this board?(No)  These rules don't apply to those not posting on this board.  However, Harper has been called a lot worse in the media than a law breaker so if you want to compare "statements that don't show respect and common decency", be prepared to defend a ton of Liberal quotes and others calling him all sorts of names.

Norman, I invite you to look at the entire picture. Politicians call each other things all the time, and certainly during an election. You're going to have to grow tougher skin because the campaign has only just begun.

  8. I really think you guys would be shocked to learn that Adscam isn't top of mind for mot voters... Preserving our Health Care, Social Infrastructure, creating jobs and our strong economy is... and THAT is why Harper has a slim chance of winning the big tostada!

I beg to differ, most Canadians don't want their hard earned dollars wasted and can put 2 and 2 together. If an administration has all kinds of corruption and waste, there won't be as much hard earned cash around for Health Care, Social Infrastructure, etc.

  9. Speaking of respect and common decency, who said the following?

The Liberal party has "been found guilty of breaking every conceivable law in the province of Quebec with the help of organized crime..."

Does that statement show respect and common decency?  Is the statement true?

If the statement is not true, what does it say about the person who uttered it?

Calling it hyperbole does not, of course, make the statement true.

Uh, Norman, did Harper say that on this board?(No) These rules don't apply to those not posting on this board. 10. And what no one seems to notice is that as a finance minister, Martin had 8 years(or whatever it was) of balanced budgets during a prolonged growth period in the 90s and they still had to gut the military and slash transfer payments to the provinces (health care line ups anyone) get these balanced budgets. Hardly a spotless record.

  11. I am not playing any card. This Conservative Party embodies both elements. As Thelonius quoted one of his Conservative acquaintances on another site, Harper is a madman. I believe that to be true in the sense that he probably meant it.

This Conservative party is dedicated to the exacerbation of social and economic inequality in Canada and to the enshrinement of privilege. That is a neocon put briefly.

This Conservative is fanatical about "The Market;" about deregulation; about "private enterprise." That, again briefly, is neolib.

It is a slave to thinking that went out more than a hundred years ago and is discredited everywhere except with our friends to the South.

Harper is a madman? I know you think little of the CPC, but to think they could elect a leader who is mad in any particular sense only shows your bias is blinding you. And to claim that the CPC is dedicated to the exacerbation of social and economic inequality and enshrinement of priveledge makes you sound quite shrill. At least you could have some evidence to back up your wild claims. Perhaps none exists?

Although, to be fair, someone had threatened you so perhaps your response was affected by this.

  12. Sorry, my bad for that. I think I am doing ok.

CBC is a particular axe to grind of mine, just because it is so blatantly biased. Such is life...

Shoop... you are kinda predictable and bitter lately.  Hope everything is ok.

That's alright Shoop, the CBC has become the Conservative Bashing Corporation and it's good to hear that at least some of us can see it. And most lefties are sounding awfully shrill, have you noticed? Nothing like an election to get people's knickers bunched up.

  13. Look, we Canadians are WAY overtaxed, even under the Liberals with all the waste and corruption they get monsterous surpluses. We need all kinds of taxes reduced, not just business or personal. I find it interesting that norman is willing to use numbers from conservative sources when it suits his purposes, but the rest of the time conservatives are homophobes.

  14. Gord, add to that the NDP were willing to sell their votes to the highest bidder and then when the Liberals wouldn't play no more THEN all of a sudden they can see the corruption and vote to bring them down. Meanwhile the Liberals put back the corporate tax cuts they previously rescinded for the NDP. Their word is no good either.

  15. we should be picking a Gov't based on policies going forward, visions for where we want the country to go to and move forward... not on what a small group of 10 or so greedy people did to take advantage of a situation

The PMO has more than ten people in it.......

Actually, we should be picking a gov. based on past performance, and the Liberals have to be judged for what they have done and covered up. Geez, when you hire an employee you look at their resume, you don't just ask them for their 'visions for where we want the company to go and move forward'.

  16. Of course I favour freedom of religion and that includes defending the freedom of Harper and his supporters to be intolerant and hate lesbians if that's what their religion preaches. But the irrational fear that religious people will be arrested for hating gays

is one which seems to be unique to the religious zealots and Bible thumpers surrounding Harper and his party. The Bible already says hateful things about other ethnic groups and religions but Harper and the Bible thumpers don't seem to have irrational fears about being arrested for preaching on those issues.  They seem only to be worried about arrests for saying hateful things about gays and lesbians.  Too bad Harper has allowed the religious zealots in his party to decide what issues are important to him.  No wonder Canadians will reject him at the polls.

Your support of freedom of religion is a mile wide but only skin deep since you use words to describe religious people like bible thumpers, religious zealots and haters of lesbians. Please cite examples about the Bible saying hateful things about other ethnic groups, I suspect your use of the word 'hate' might simply mean descriptions you don't agree with.

  17. So Harper saying that the Liberals were "guilty of breaking every conceivable law in the province Quebec" is taking the high road? By the way given Harper's claims of "Liberal corruption", can you name a single Liberal MP running in this election who has broken a law in Quebec or any other province?

Norman, you ascribe my comment of Harper taking the high road to something I clearly didn't connect it to, then point to it as wrong? If you continue to think this way you will end up confusing yourself.

The Liberals have done so much damage in Quebec with their scandal, Quebec may seperate. Can you get your head around that? The laws that were broken will probably never come to the light of day since there isn't much of a paper trail, the Liberals were paying in CASH to avoid paper trails. But support them all you want. I don't really care if they get arrested, right now I just want to throw the bums out.
