  1. Gord, add to that the NDP were willing to sell their votes to the highest bidder and then when the Liberals wouldn't play no more THEN all of a sudden they can see the corruption and vote to bring them down. Meanwhile the Liberals put back the corporate tax cuts they previously rescinded for the NDP. Their word is no good either.

  2. we should be picking a Gov't based on policies going forward, visions for where we want the country to go to and move forward... not on what a small group of 10 or so greedy people did to take advantage of a situation

The PMO has more than ten people in it.......

Actually, we should be picking a gov. based on past performance, and the Liberals have to be judged for what they have done and covered up. Geez, when you hire an employee you look at their resume, you don't just ask them for their 'visions for where we want the company to go and move forward'.

  3. Of course I favour freedom of religion and that includes defending the freedom of Harper and his supporters to be intolerant and hate lesbians if that's what their religion preaches. But the irrational fear that religious people will be arrested for hating gays

is one which seems to be unique to the religious zealots and Bible thumpers surrounding Harper and his party. The Bible already says hateful things about other ethnic groups and religions but Harper and the Bible thumpers don't seem to have irrational fears about being arrested for preaching on those issues.  They seem only to be worried about arrests for saying hateful things about gays and lesbians.  Too bad Harper has allowed the religious zealots in his party to decide what issues are important to him.  No wonder Canadians will reject him at the polls.

Your support of freedom of religion is a mile wide but only skin deep since you use words to describe religious people like bible thumpers, religious zealots and haters of lesbians. Please cite examples about the Bible saying hateful things about other ethnic groups, I suspect your use of the word 'hate' might simply mean descriptions you don't agree with.

  4. So Harper saying that the Liberals were "guilty of breaking every conceivable law in the province Quebec" is taking the high road? By the way given Harper's claims of "Liberal corruption", can you name a single Liberal MP running in this election who has broken a law in Quebec or any other province?

Norman, you ascribe my comment of Harper taking the high road to something I clearly didn't connect it to, then point to it as wrong? If you continue to think this way you will end up confusing yourself.

The Liberals have done so much damage in Quebec with their scandal, Quebec may seperate. Can you get your head around that? The laws that were broken will probably never come to the light of day since there isn't much of a paper trail, the Liberals were paying in CASH to avoid paper trails. But support them all you want. I don't really care if they get arrested, right now I just want to throw the bums out.

  5. Incorrect. The proposed legislative amendments state that "No person shall be convicted of an offence under subsection (2) if... in good faith, the person expressed or attempted to establish by argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on a belief in a religious text."

BD the question is who decides if the religious person is being in 'good faith' or not. The judge, that's who. There is already a climate of intolerance towards religious comment toward gay topics in Canada and examples have already been cited where non religious comments have been slapped down. Soon the question will rise why can the religious types say things about gays that everybody else can't.

  6. We know the media brought up the gay marriage issue on day one of the campaign, but what questions of substance did they ask? They asked Harper if he loves Canada. I read it today in the National Post. Obviously trying to get some kind of rise out of him. *Sigh* If anything it will be the Canadian media that makes this an ugly campaign. All of us conservatives know they hate conservatives in general and the CPC in particular.

  7. You must not have gone to the link I provided.  If you go that link you'll see Harper said

that the Liberals were "guilty of breaking every conceivable law in the province Quebec."  You actually view that statement as quoting the truth?  Every conceivable law?  These are exactly the type of lies we've come to expect from Harper.  Can you name a single Liberal MP running in the January election who has broken every conceivable law? Can you name a single Liberal MP running in the next election who has broken even one law?  The "Liberal corruption" chant and drone didn't work last time and it won't work this time.  Canadians are fair-minded. They know that their current Liberal MPs had no more to do with adscam than the other CPC MPs had to do with the antics of Grewal or the NDP MPs had to do with Svend's ring. Bye bye Harper and save your lies for the CPC supporters.

Norman, the end result of the Liberal party's actions in Quebec will be a loss of all their seats come the election, and a big push towards separation. If the Liberals win a minority or a majority they will have zero credibility in Quebec and may be in power when Quebec walks away. That's far worse an outcome than Harper's description. I'm waiting for the CPC to start drawing this parallel but they will probably take the high road on this one, hoping Quebec changes her mind.

  8. The foundation of democracy is equality. Without that, there is no democracy. The avowed intent of the CPC under Harper is to exacerbate the situation of growing inequality in Canada.

    Harper is not a democrat.

When a situation exists where certain special interest groups get protection above the rest of Canadians, there is no equality. If someone gets murdered because he's hated for being gay, how it that any worse than a straight guy getting murdered because someone hates him. Hate is hate. Both crimes are just as wrong.

When a situation exists where a certain group will not be considered for hiring because of their skin colour, and others will be considered because of their skin colour, there is no equality. This was a recent headline in Canada and was only reversed because an election was coming.

  9. At any rate, it is going to get dirty, because the Liberals are desperate to cling to power and will invent any dirt on the CPC that they can. Martin is looking and sounding particularly desperate, Just watch a few clips of him since the vote. Even Jack looks more collected than Paul, but Harper really looks cool as a cucumber. That's why the press are already asking loaded questions, trying to manipulate the news instead of report on it.

The unspoken theme of course is that Harper is scary, scary, scary. Except they've used that same strategy since the last election and it doesn't have any impact anymore, and in the light of the Liberal payoffs, payola and lying about it, the CPC looks even better.

  10. This topic has been a pet peeve of mine.  For instance, as soon as Katrina hit, many in the media started THE END IS NEAR UNLESS WE EMBRACE ENVIRONMENTALISM rant, showing how we've had so many killer storms this year and it's PROOF THAT WE'RE KILLING MOTHER EARTH!

As soon as some actually started looking into it they discovered that, lo and behold, back in the mid 1930s, there was also a year when there were as many category 5 storms. The late 60swere bad too.  Which kind of blows the whole warming climate change thing out of the water.  Since back in the 30s there wasn't 1/10th of the cars and industry on planet earth that there is today.  It seems the oceans warm up and cool down based on cycles of 30 years or something.

Anywhoo, there's a good novel that explores this topic.  Michael Crichton did  a lot of research and cites many studies in this work that shows some of the ugly side to the environmentalism.  I know it's only a novel, but he really researches his topic well and it refers to studies which disagree with the tree huggers and these people get shunned and worse for disrespecting the religion of mother earth.

Just a note to those who wrongly think I was using M. Crichton as a source debunking environmentalism. In this post I was preaching to the choir, not trying to convince those in the environmentalism movement of anything. I find that in most cases, no matter how many sources one has regarding just about anything, they are discounted immediately, so only on some occasions do I bother. And it really is a good read.

  11. Excellent post Shady. It's typical of the American media to totally miss simple logic and rabidly attack Bush and the war effort when it's actually going so well. It's pathetic that they could have had Osama and of course Clinton gets a free pass from the media, but Bush is a liar! Just wait, the American public will come back to Bush in spite of the media.

  12. So this is the worst thing Harper has ever said? I'm seeing that a lot from liberal supporters in general, but this knee jerk reaction happens every time he says something controversial. Liberal supporters were absolutely 'shocked' when Harper talked about Martin and child porn.

But they are only words Harper is using, not actions like the Liberals have been doing, throwing millions at Quebec in some convoluted scheme to 'buy' its place in Canada, and now throwing billions at voters in the hope they don't smell the stench of Liberal corruption. But all Liberal supporters can seem to do is be shocked at the words of Harper. How can words be worse than that?

  13. Of course, the election hasn't even been called yet, there's plenty of time for things to change. I tend to agree with the minority conservative gov. having a difficult time. They'd have to play footsies with the Liberals who would only look for the opportunity to stab them in the back. The Block would be more honest, but it would be a tough sell to the public that you're teaming up with the party that wants to rip Quebec out of Canada.

  15. Or maybe people see actual problems in the conservative party? Like a leader with the mind of a head of lettuce? Or the powerful minority in the party that are hardcore social conservatives? Or the foreign policy disaster in the making?

I don't like allot of things about the liberals, but honestly the more I hear some of you the more I realize that if these are the people that make up the current conservative movement then Canadians really do have something to fear, and to think before I came here I was planning on voting conservative...

Perfect? No, halfway competent? Yes. Preston was never too intellectual, Stockwell was a nutcase, and Stephen is a policy moron. It’s not the nature of conservatism that’s the problem its just that this current batch really is that bad, sorry but as we move along it becomes more and more obvious that some people just refuse to see the most obvious warts. To honest? Are you insane? No party has spread the retarded rhetoric around thicker then this incarnation of the Conservatives, PM is soft on Pedophiles? The Liberals are in bed with organized crime? They actually said these things...

Actually I would bet your not Cynical, just another angry loner who thinks they have it all figured out even though they have never even opened a book on history or politics. But let’s have fun with your little list anyways?

Yaro it's really hard to believe you. You state how Harper's mind is a head of lettuce, the CPC party 'shows huge holes' and has a hardcore minority that are (eek) social conservatives, and yet you were going to vote for them until you came here. It's a real stretch to say the least.

Like all the others who hate the CPC you are willing to overlook 12 years of Liberal governing filled with corruption, waste, arrogence and international embarrasment, and freak out over what the Conservatives might do if they are in power. Your logic speaks for itself.

I've read some of your posts, and you're kind of a one trick pony. This one is par for the course: You have this insulting sneer and talk down to whoever you decide to side swipe, pointing out all their faulty thinking and characterizing them with angry loner, paranoid fantasies, and not having anything of substance to offer.

Why is it that you have to put other people down so much? Perhaps you have some self esteem issues? Other than put others and the CPC down you are the one who didn't offer anything in the way of substance. Why don't you lose the attitude and treat others with a little bit of respect.

  16. People can't really be that surprise by these poll numbers.

The majority of the electorate in Canada would rather be more afraid of what the ruling Liberal party says that the Conservatives MIGHT do, rather than what the ruling Liberal party actually DOES do.

This has been very true in the past. But the danger with this strategy is human nature. People get desensitized to the scaremongering. So the Liberals must try harder to overcome this, and end up sounding rather shrill in the process.

The more recent Ipsos Reid poll shows people are just not scared enough of the Conservatives. It will be interesting to see if the Liberal party responds with the same old tired 'scary' label.

  17. IMO, what goes to the heart of this is the question of absolutes. We historically held that many behaviours and attitudes that were considered wrong, period. And most people policed their own actions. Now there are none, and there are never enough police.

I had my car broken into twice in less than two years. An officer came the first time and suggested it wasn't worth having an aftermarket stereo. He said there was no point in trying to catch the criminal and get him before a judge, he'd get no punishment. This is because of situational ethics. The judge will reason that the criminal isn't fully responsible for his actions because he was raised in foster care or he's got fetal alcohol syndrome or he's addicted to drugs. So he's free to continue stealing and abusing himself indefinitely. Meanwhile, it cost me over $!000 to replace items not covered by insurance.

  18. - But on a good note --Brian Mulroney won a successful Crown appeal and was shown that that allegations against Mulroney in the 'Airbus scandal' have no legal legs at all--it's all over for all you diehards who thought Mulroney was a guilty man in all of this.

Yep, Brian is looking good. I watched part of the CBC airing of Peter Newman's tapes. They made a big deal about all the expletives and how it would show the 'raw' Brian. I actually came away having new respect for him. I hope he wins his lawsuit against Peter.

  19. I've read some more results from the IPSOS-REID poll. 67% believe the recent Liberal spending binge is a cynical attempt to win votes.

62% say the Liberals do not deserve to be re-elected and it's time for a change.

53% say their impression of Paul Martin has worsened in recent weeks.

I'd say the Liberals have something to be worried about, bigtime.
