Yeah, Quebec is really their own country, aren't they? I'm speaking about the United Empire Loyalists who decided what kind of country we were to be.

Biden/Harris parting gift to the world: A World War
Radiorum replied to West's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I have a bit of a hard time imagining that Trump will just end the war by giving in to Putin’s demands. There would be nothing in it for Trump, and Trump doesn’t do anything that does not benefit him. Trump’s political goals are all about gaining more power for himself. Being strong. A capitulation to Russia would not accomplish that. He may be presenting a threatening stance to Ukraine in order to strengthen his bargaining power with the besieged nation. “You want our help?” I can imagine Trump saying. “Well, what are you going to do for us?” This would most likely involve exploiting Ukraine’s rich natural resources, or offering American companies sweet business deals. -
You compared it to cancer. A very ignorant perspective. We can approach life in one of two ways. We can try to walk in other's shoes, try to understand where they are at, or we can exist in our own little bubble of misunderstanding that only takes into consideration how things affect me. Educate yourself to world that exists beyond your bigoted and narrow-minded approach.

Lol, omg, you're so funny. Like I need your approval. I'm sensing frustration. But it is not. And any informed opinion knows this. there is nothing wrong with the function of a transgender brain. It is just the opposite gender of the body. It is not a want. This diminishes their very real experience. Transgenderism is not a disease. I've already told you I see through this strategy. It's pretty pathetic.

I did! Back in high school. Also, Macbeth. But Shakespeare was not my thing. But I do remember being absolutely carried away by Wuthering Heights. That' strange because I feel like I have been winning. None of my points have been adequately counter-pointed. “Don’t judge everyone else by your own limited experience.” — Carl Sagan

I have to disagree with some of the comments made about the Canadian identity. I think there is a pronounced Canadian identity. This goes all the way back to our founding. I've done a lot of reading about the battle for the continent back in the 18th century, resulting in those with an emphasis on community settling in Canada and those with an emphasis on individual rights remaining in the US. This is probably the biggest difference between us. I see a lot more arrogance from Americans, too. Canadians are humble. Americans don't laugh at themselves as much as we do. And of course the stereotype is true - we are more courteous and kind. It's true - we say sorry a lot! I hope you'll take the few minutes to watch the video below which nicely sums up what it means to be Canadian (BTW Chris Hadfield was NASA astronaut)

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I am sorry you are feeling disillusioned with Canada. I've always been a very proud Canadian, so it's easy for me to speak, but I haven't seen what you have seen. And it's always in the one-on-one relationships that we find the deepest meaning, eh?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.

Have you read all the quotes of Hegseth posted? Please, tell me, what do you think he means? And what did Trump mean when he said this: “I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within,” Trump said. He added: “We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they’re the big — and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen.” Actually I never have. I don't watch TV.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. - Hamlet (1.5.167-8), Hamlet to Horatio You never did answer my question about how anyone who falls outside of what you call "normal" is not natural yeah, I accidently omitted the word "not" It should read "does not mesh"

That's true, it's simple - too simple. Human beings are not cardboard cutouts. There are entire spectrums of biological, emotional, psychological traits in a population. To believe that gender is binary is to go against both the biological and medical information we have. To not believe that there is overlap is an ignorant position. Not true. Your reality. Which does not mesh with real reality. I think I have answered this.

Ah, so this is how Trump will justify deploying troops on domestic soil. Trump will get an Authorization for Use of Military Force, like the Iraq Resolution. Remember when he tweeted: Jul 17th 2023 - 8:30:09 AM EST Trump is our weapon of RETRIBUTION! And posted: IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU! The full quote: That whenever there shall be a declared war between the United States and any foreign nation or government, or any invasion or predatory incursion shall be perpetrated, attempted or threatened against the territory of the United States, by any foreign nation or government, (Wow, that was easy.)

This actually supports my position, since the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 can only be invoked when the nation is at war with another sovereign nation. It would be flatly illegal for Trump to use it. But illegality has never stopped him before. He may have better luck with the Insurrection Act, which gives sole discretion to the president, as well as having the benefit (for Trump) of being ill-defined and thus broad in its application - gives him almost limitless power to deploy troops to suppress “any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy.” How do you think a guy like Trump - who calls his political opposition "the enemy within" - will use it?

Biden/Harris parting gift to the world: A World War
Radiorum replied to West's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
There are currently 50 nations contributing to Ukraine’s defense. Why is that? (US aid actually ranks 10th as a percentage of GDP.) The US does $1 trillion dollars in trade with Europe. So, besides the destabilizing effects on world security Putin’s war threatens, there are also huge economic risks. You may trust Putin, but many (especially the informed) don’t. There is bipartisan support in Congress for Ukraine: Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY): “This is not just some altruistic project. This passes every cold, hard, realistic calculation with flying colors. It’s the right move for American taxpayers, for American servicemembers, for our allies and partners… Our investment in Ukraine is restoring and rebuilding deterrence for pennies on the dollar.” Senate State-Foreign Operations Appropriations Ranking Member Lindsey Graham (R-SC): “If Putin dismembers Ukraine, he will not stop. China is more likely to go into Taiwan. The world will unravel and no domestic problem gets better here at home allowing Putin to destroy Ukraine – quite the opposite… We’re spending money, but it’s being spent on a good cause, the cause of freedom. So I’m all in, whatever they need as long as they need it.” House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX): “I have supported U.S. assistance because a victory by Putin in Ukraine would further embolden Americans adversaries from Chairman Xi in Beijing, to the Ayatollah and Tehran to Kim Jong-un in North Korea… Last month, I led a congressional delegation to Ukraine and Poland to conduct in-person oversight of U.S. aid to Ukraine. I saw firsthand the process is working.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY): “Now is not the time… to take our foot off the gas when it comes to helping Ukraine. The single worst thing we can do right now is give Putin any signal that we are wavering in our commitment to defend democracy in Ukraine and around the globe.” Senate State-Foreign Operations Appropriations Chris Coons (D-DE): “More than 40 countries around the world are helping Ukraine… We have to continue to stand by Ukraine. Their fight is our fight. They are on the front lines of freedom, for the world, for this century, and I am determined that we will continue this fight to Ukrainian victory.” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY): “It’s not just between two countries. It’s a battle between freedom and tyranny, it’s a battle between democracy and autocracy, it’s a battle between truth and propaganda… If Ukraine prevails, the free world prevails, and that’s good for all of us.” House Foreign Affairs Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (D-NY): “Congress and the American people will continue to stand with the brave Ukrainians who are defending their rights and freedom. Ukrainians did not ask for this unjust war of aggression. They are only asking for our support as they defend their home and their sovereignty. And it is in our national interest to provide that support to Ukraine.” House Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH): “Overwhelmingly, there is support for continuing aid to Ukraine, so that they can continue to fight against this aggression of Russia.” Actually, it's pretty nice. -
I'm not telling anyone who they are - you are. If someone tells me who they are, I believe them. I never expressed any support for this. First of all, the greatest supporters of the trans community are medical associations. Second, there have always been "two-spirit" people. Although there is evidence that increased numbers may be due to environmental pollutants that act as endocrine disrupters - affecting prenatal development.

That's because there is not a simple definition. It's not simple a matter of - well, if you have breasts, ovaries and a vagina, you are a woman. Because "who you are" is determined by your brain/mind - and transgender women are women in their organ of thought. (Brains are dimorphic, too.) I'm not sure why this is such a difficult concept for some people to understand. Also, I'm not sure why some people are so fixated on a rigid definition and feel threatened if others don't fit into their narrow understanding of the human condition.

I think we are most like them at the family level. I think both American and Canadian parents want the same for their children - to be safe and healthy, to be responsible, to have empathy, to strive for excellence, to succeed in life. I know this is true. And I recognize the very important leadership role the US plays in the world as the protector of democracy. "Democracy dies in darkness" and Putin is pulling the wool over many eyes. I may not have made this plain, but I have a very great affection for the US. I have always considered Americans as my cousins. And it concerns me deeply to see what is going on down there now. I don't see this sentiment in my circle.
