  1. To what? Show the love?
  2. Um ... the Libs of TikTok are conservative influencers. Trump has even had the creators to Mar-a-Lago. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-hosts-conservative-influencers-libs-tik-tok-babylon-bee-dinner-rcna67396
  3. I was reading today about a war plan that the US drew up in 1930 - called the War Plan Red - to take Canada. It had as much to do with defeating Britain: The plan began with a three-prong attack by land and sea, starting with a naval blockade of Halifax, sending troop columns from Detroit and Albany to take Toronto and Montreal, from Bellingham to capture Vancouver, and from Boston to capture Halifax, while columns of troops marching from Albany and Vermont, and troops marching from Buffalo take over Niagara Falls, disabling the Canadian power grid. The troop movements were devised with the help of U.S. aviation hero, and later Nazi sympathizer, Charles Lindbergh, who flew secret recon missions behind enemy lines up to Canada’s Hudson Bay to suss out weak points. He recommended the use of chemical weapons... ... in 1935, Congress spent $57 million on an updated version of the plan, including the building of three “civilian airports” on the border with Canada. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/06/21/that-time-the-us-almost-went-to-war-with-canada-218881/
  4. Lol, gotcha.
  5. Never said you were. Why did you think it was about you?
  6. This whole post is gaslighting. It doesn't address in any meaningful way the point raised in the OP. Did you learn this distraction technique from Trump? He excels at it.
  7. I'm not responsible for them Not according to the research. See my previous post
  8. I would say that the above is not true. Furthermore, I think the online adoration of Luigi Mangione (the CEO shooter) is a very different animal than what we see in MAGA. Most of the online reaction has focused on his looks. He’s been dubbed the “hot assassin.” Even Ted Bundy developed a cult following. Professor Tanya Horeck, an expert on digital culture and true crime from Anglia Ruskin University, says that the internet has caused "a blurring of the lines between celebrity and criminality” and that when people see a good-looking person pop into their feeds, their first thought is lust, not moral criticism. Also - this kind of online worship of violence is often seen on the right. If you go down the alt-right rabbit hole, you’ll find that on right-wing sites like 4chan and 8chan mass shootings are met with glee. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp8nk75vg81o I couldn’t find any evidence that those posting in favour of Mangione were either right or left-wing. The major motivation seems to be a hatred of the rich. For example, the hashtag #EatThe Rich soon went viral after the shooting. Clearly, some people are pissed off at corporate elites in general. But – aren’t right-wing people more likely to be anti-elite? The reality of American politics today is that the Republicans are the “populists” and the Democrats “the elitists.” That’s part of the reason they rejected Harris. I think, too, that an important distinction needs to be made here between the messages coming “from the top.” Democrat leaders do not embrace, glorify and endorse hatred and violence the way that Trump does. Josh Shapiro, the Democrat governor of Pennsylvania, where Mangione was arrested, said, "We do not kill people in cold blood to resolve policy differences or express a viewpoint.” Compare that to Trump regularly calling for the execution of his political opponents. With a leader like that, it is not surprising that the research shows that online posts by the political right include higher levels of hate speech, threat, obscenity, name-calling, stereotyping, and negative prejudice, than do posts from the political left: In this study, we investigated the question of whether online prejudice is symmetrical or asymmetrical on the political left and right in the U.S. in a very large sample of social media messages. We observed that Twitter messages mentioning targets perceived as liberal or left-leaning (such as Black Americans and feminists) included higher levels of hate speech, threat, obscenity, name-calling, stereotyping, and negative prejudice, compared to Twitter messages mentioning targets perceived as conservative or right-leaning (such as conservatives and Christians). https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10724124/
  9. Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 - 1945) was a German theologian and philosopher who became a fierce opponent of the Nazis. He worked for the resistance movement under cover of employment in Germany’s Military Intelligence Department, which in fact was a centre of the resistance. His involvement in a plot to overthrow Adolf Hitler led to his imprisonment and execution in 1945. As a witness to the goings-on in Germany in the 1930s, Bonhoeffer developed his “theory of stupidity” – that there is more to fear from stupid people than from evil people. Fighting stupidity is a lot more difficult than fighting evil because stupidity can be manipulated and used by evil. In Bonhoeffer’s words: Neither protests not the use of force accomplishes anything here; reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict one’s prejudgment simply need not be believed—in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical—and when facts are irrefutable, they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental. In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self-satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack. Stupidity coupled with power is a deadly combination. In fact, Bonhoeffer believed stupidity was worse than evil: Because evil people find it hard to take power, they need stupid people to do their work. Like sheep in a field, a stupid person can be guided, steered, and manipulated to do any number of things. Evil is a puppet master, and it loves nothing so much as the mindless puppets who enable it — be they in the general public or inside the corridors of power.
  10. Tacky is wearing socks with sandals, not calling for the destruction of an entire state.
  11. That includes with this disaster. Trump said Biden left him "NO MONEY IN FEMA." This is false. Biden signed a bill in December that replenished the fund. “The current balance of the Disaster Relief Fund is approximately $27 billion, Trump said that Newsom “refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way.” This is false. Newsom has never refused to sign a “water restoration declaration.” In fact, there is no such document, https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/09/politics/fact-check-trump-california-wildfires-fema/index.html Why is Trump doing this?
  12. The hatred that the online MAGA crowd have for California (in the face of the devastating LA fires) is palpable. Gleefully watching the destruction, they are reveling in the suffering. Their POV: punish the “evil liberals.” Posts made on MAGA forums in the wake of the California wildfires: “I hope the whole f*cking shithole burns down. Literally would not p*ss on it to put the fire out.” “The Christian thing to do is to bathe in God’s wrath playing out and pay [sic] their [sic] they will no longer be satanic pedophiles. Not this f*ggot shit.” “I'm done with these commie b*stards. I have nothing but contempt for them. The enemies of Christ deserve what's happening.” “F*ck em. They're communists, not Americans.” “I actually feel good, I don't really care. I hope the rich people in the foothills around Denver have their houses burn next. Minneapolis and Chicago can burn too. They're not my country they're at best occupiers when their side is in power and I don't mind nature's wrath coming down on them. The northeast can be wiped out by a tsunami. Not my country, not a place I care about, they're actively trying to destroy my way of life, good riddance.” How did we get here? The hatred also seems to be a reaction based on misinformation. Trump himself spread a lot of it. Other MAGA quotes: “They celebrated Helene wiping out thousands of Trump supporters off the map. They (Democrats) are evil.” [The truth: around 250 people died in Hurricane Helene] “Me either. These people didn't do anything but mock the people in WNC when an unprecedented flood wiped out whole towns. We didn't get a visit from Joe. [The truth: Biden visited Western North Carolina shortly after the storm] They still have not disbursed the 1.75 million dollars of emergency funding that is supposed to help people with housing, emergency shelter and supporting the businesses that flooded to their rooftops. [The truth: FEMA has distributed $32 million to NC and was going door to door to connect people with financial assistance] (You can read more about this on The MAGA Report, by Jen Golbeck, available on Substack.) How can this hatred be dissolved? How does Trump contribute to it?
  13. You have been presented with ample evidence refuting your position, which has been bigoted, hateful and ignorant. When a person refuses to accept evidence that shows them they are wrong, that is called delusion. Some people prefer to meet others as one human soul meeting another human soul.
  14. Trump is an insulting bully without the decency of a rat, but most of all he is a performer. His whole schtick is performance. He’s a conman all about keeping the base entertained. And distracted. He has to keep them distracted from just how incompetent he is and how there really is no substance to him. It’s the old “fascinate the fools.” With all this talk of taking over the Panama Canal, Greenland, and Canada, he’s trying to shift their attention from the fact he will never fulfill the promises he made - like ending the Ukrainian-Russian war in one day, or carrying out the largest mass deportations ever. Just won’t happen. Just like he never built the wall or replaced the ACA.
  15. I have read Jack Smith's entire 165-page filing in the case of The United States of America vs. Donald J. Trump, and it lays out the evidence for the case against Trump in his efforts to illegally turn over the 2020 election. Unless you have read it, you have no business disparaging it. Yes, Trump is a crook. You can read it online: https://d3i6fh83elv35t.cloudfront.net/static/2024/10/gov.uscourts.dcd_.258148.252.0.pdf
  16. The problem is that the US is not in a rational place right now. They are in the grips of a mass psychosis orchestrated by Trump. Their exalted dear leader has the power to lead them to some very dark places.
  17. What specific right are you concerned about?
  18. But their concerns about transgender persons are invalid. This response seems to support my contention that it is a matter of "You can't tell me!" They are really scared that someone will put something over on them. What an anxious way to live.
  19. I only have one account, too. I've just read through your posts, and know that you are coming from a good place. I'm trying to understand the hatred. It's some kind of primitive territorialism, I think. Sometimes, we see threats that are not there.
  20. I was reading today about Trump's plans to take over Greenland, Panama, and Canada. He shows his bully, imperialist self. Totally in the image of Putin. And all those MAGAts that cried, "He's war averse." They never really knew him, did they?
  21. Let’s begin with a couple of assumptions: 1. Both sides consist of good people. 2. Both sides have something important to say. 3. Both sides feel the fate of the world depends on their side winning. The trouble is, the human mind is a story processor, not a logic processor. For example - here is a typical right-wing story: Is this story true? Of course not. Good people do not want to screw others over. Is their motivation to take? No. Do they see some as more deserving than others? To the contrary, they say all should be deserving. That story falsely demonizes a whole group of people. It’s an example of emotional reasoning detached from reality. The irrational fear is – if I share my bowl, the “others” will take it all.
  22. Lol, that's the Math definition. You know, Calculus. Differentiation during fetal development is a different thing. In the first trimester of pregnancy, an undifferentiated embryo differentiates to male or female (develops testes or ovaries). And in the last trimester of pregnancy, an undifferentiated brain differentiates to a male or female brain.
  23. Like how you think you are the judge of all humankind?
