Final Report of the Special Counsel
Radiorum replied to robosmith's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I mentioned before, I have read Jack Smith's entire 165-page filing in the case of The United States of America vs. Donald Trump. (dated October 2, 2024) It lays out the evidence to support the case in Trump's illegal attempt to overturn the 2020 election. https://d3i6fh83elv35t.cloudfront.net/static/2024/10/gov.uscourts.dcd_.258148.252.0.pdf And now I am going to read the entire 174-page Final Report (dated January 7, 2025) https://www.justice.gov/storage/Report-of-Special-Counsel-Smith-Volume-1-January-2025.pdf -
More from Woody Guthrie Woody Guthrie -- I Ain't Got No Home/Old Man Trump by the Missin' Cousins In December 1950, Woody Guthrie moved to an apartment building in Brooklyn – Beach Haven Apartments. His landlord: Fred Trump, father of Donald Trump. Woody Guthrie wrote these lyrics in 1951, and 65 years later, the Missin' Cousins, a County-Western music group from Oakland California, present a recording of these new lyrics to I Ain't Got No Home in this World Anymore.

There is no universally accepted definition of fascism, but some more-or-less accepted characteristics of it: - power concentrated at the top – and all that matters is what the Leader says. - the Leader identifies enemies. - extreme militaristic nationalism. - irrationally misdirected anger and frustration. - willingness to make changes in official party positions in order to win elections or consolidate power. - hatred of Marxists of all stripes, from totalitarian communists to democratic socialists. - propaganda. (A fascist tells stories – doesn’t matter if they are true.) Trump seems to foot the bill. And the confusing thing about it, is that it so goes against the American tradition. At the link below is Woody Guthrie singing "All You Fascists Bound to Lose" (1:34 minutes) “Let’s show these fascists what a couple of hillbillies can do.”

Yeah, well, Obama is the bigger man. He apologized!! Trump never would. He just keeps lying. He's like the Energizer Bunny (only orange). He just keeps going, and going, and going....
-
Lol, I love the way you do not even acknowledge Trump's lies.

I'll preface my remarks by saying that I never liked Trudeau. But I do love my country. Are we perfect? Of course not. Are there areas for improvement? Well, if we want all Canadians to be full participants in this great land, yes, there are. That means that some groups are more disadvantaged in our systems than others. This is certainly true of Indigenous peoples. Well, that is certainly not true. I live the Canadian culture every day. Let's never underestimate the power of an apology. It acknowledges past wrongs with a view to making things better in the future. Only truth-telling can lead to reconciliation. Sorry, I don't know much about this. What do you think is the solution? I don't believe this. Now you are being silly. How is it any skin off your nose if you recognize a transgender person for who they are? Well, I like to think we are a nation of problem solvers. If we regress into what we see in the States, problems will indeed be hard to solve. We need to agree on a few principles - and the first one should be to recognize the dignity of each individual person, even if they walk a different path in life from us. And don't forget your two-four and a mickey, eh!

Interesting – I never heard of PolitiFact’s “Lie of the Year.” So, I did a little digging. Yes, they categorized Obama’s statement as a lie, but suggest it was a misunderstanding, and more importantly – Obama issued a rare presidential apology for it. (Can you ever imagine Trump apologizing for any of his lies?) But I also noticed that Trump won the distinction of having “Lie of the Year” in 2024 (Haitian immigrants are eating cats and dogs), 2021 (Jan. 6 Capitol attack), 2020 (Covid downplay and denial), 2019 (The Ukraine call), 2017 (Russia meddling in US election is “made-up”), and 2015 (Trump’s campaign statements) - By December 2015, PolitiFact had rated 76% of Trump’s claims Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire. No other politician had clocked more falsehoods on our Truth-O-Meter, and our only real contenders for Lie of the Year were Trump’s. So Trump wins!!

What was that?

@WestCanMan - You don't even see the irony of filling a thread concerned about hate with hate, do you? In any case, it would take an entire book to illustrate all the ways in which Trump has fomented hate, and I am not inclined to do so. But one particular tweet of his is worth mentioning: Every time the Radical Left Democrats, Marxists, Communists, and Fascists indict me, I consider it a GREAT BADGE OF HONOR. I’m being indicted for YOU. Never forget—our enemies want to take away MY FREEDOM because I will never let them take away YOUR FREEDOM. They want to silence ME because I will never let them silence YOU. In the end, they’re not after me, they’re after you—and I’m just standing in their way!

Your attitude is such a clear example of the primitive "us vs. them" mindset. Are you unable to interact on a one-on-one basis? Well, I don’t hate you. If I understand you correctly, you say you hate me because you think I hate you. But I don’t hate you. So, you can let yourself off the hook. This is a good point.

You're not the boss of me. I can peg what I want. Some sort of critical thinking
-
I think it all shows that Obama is the bigger man. He called it as he saw it, but Trump just made things up.
-
IMO, Obama is still the much more genuine one.

This is inaccurate. While it is true that supporters of Hilary Clinton “birthed” the birther conspiracy in 2008, it was soon taken over by the right, and then Trump took that baby and turned it into a big, hairy monster. He did what he did best – exploitation. Even after Obama released his original “long-form” birth certificate in 2011 (which Trump took credit for – saying he had done a great service to the country) – Trump continued to milk the monster. In 2012, he tweeted that he had an “extremely credible source” who told him the birth certificate was a fraud. In 2013, he raised suspicion about the death of a Hawaiian official who verified copies of Obama’s “birth certificate.” In 2014, he asked hackers to access Obama’s college records and check his “place of birth.” https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2016-37391652 If racial tensions increased after Obama got elected, it was because of the simple fact that a Black man had gained the White House. If we look at American history, we’ll see that every gain ever made by Black Americans is followed by a White backlash. Blacks have historically been told to “know their place” - and faced consequences if stepping over it. It wasn’t that long ago that looking the wrong way at a White person would get a Black person lynched. “Black Success, White Backlash” is a well-known trope. From Jim Crow following the Civil war, to the White racial panic following Obama’s election. (And that panic powered Trump.)

I watched the funeral of Jimmy Carter on television. One of the things that caught my imagination was the sight of Barack Obama and Donald Trump, head to head, talking and laughing together. We’re aware of the animosity between these two. The whole birther conspiracy, and Trump calling Obama “a disaster” and labelling him “ignorant” and the ‘founder of ISIS.” And as Obama campaigned for Harris, he labelled Trump a danger to America. These two have done nothing but politically tear each other down. So why the chummy interaction?
-
You say that, but I know you don't mean it. I give you enough credit to know where I am coming from.
-
I feel very, very strongly that I am a Canadian, and I feel very, very strongly about the differences between us and the US. We can never be absorbed into the US. Give me my toque! Give me my ability to laugh at myself! Give me all those good things like universal health care and progressive rights. Give me the ability to say, "Eh?" I want the letter U in my words like colour, honour and favourite. I want my milk in bags! If you don't understand what I am talking about, you were never a real Canadian.
-
Of course not. Hate in any of its forms disturbs me greatly. But the subject of the hour is that Trump has just been elected president and his motivations are very dark indeed.
-
I peg you, too. And this is the real problem, eh? As humans, we are governed by stimulus and response. if we're lucky, some growth lies between the stimulus and the response. But for some poor unfortunate souls, stimulus digs them deeper. This is your reality.
-
This has nothing to do with this thread. Trump stokes hate. That's the point. Lol, that's your problem. But I do urge you to seek help.
-
By whom? there's no evidence it was the left. You clearly did not read my post carefully enough.
-
That's funny, because I have pegged you as one of the most hateful persons on this site.
-
And my guess is that you don't even see that that is exactly what you are doing. I am concerned about the hate that Trump spreads. Now, try and stay focused on that. I have seen no evidence of left-wing hate presented. But back to my main point - Trump has torn the country apart.

It's just that ... I wouldn't get my political news from TikTok!
