  1. Leftists have this habit of constantly making you debate the most ridiculous things. Is it a strategy they use to keep you occupied? Is it a result of believing in nothing and seeing all things as relative? Is it a combination of both?
  2. Being 1/4 black doesn't give her a southern accent. If she goes to Britain do you suppose she talks to British blacks in a British accent? If she goes to Congo does she speak with an African accent? You say your wife reverts to an accent she had growing up when you go to Mississippi. Do you adopt a southern accent when you go?
  3. I am from the sticks. I have the accent. You are being completely ridiculous here. You know it. If I were to acquire a different one it would be one that I acquired with time, not one I've adopted as an affectation. The "more" part is why it's not normal. There is a reason that people will not mock your wife for using reverting to diction she had in a her childhood, but will mock someone like Britney or Madonna for adopting one they never had.
  4. So she is actually southern then. You are being completely ridiculous here. I know the phenomenon you are talking about. I am from the sticks, and I talk more like a person from the sticks when talking to people from the sticks. That's a far cry from what is happening here, and I think you know that. I don't adopt other accents as temporary affectations just by going somewhere. Kamala did this. AOC did this. They did it in a way that's very noticeable. Other people seem to be able to speak in front of multiple audiences without significant changes in accent.
  5. Dude, people don't become full on southern when they go to the south. Give it a rest.
  6. If Donald Trump changed his accent everywhere he went, people would have no issue calling it what it is. He would be mocked for it. No one would euphemize it by calling it "code switching". I see people on here calling the Trump supporting posters cultists. I find that quite ironic. To be fair there are Trump cultists out there. But I don't see much cultism on here. I see people on either side who are very partisan. I see personal attacks. But I also see that many of the Trump supporters do not revere him. They openly admit he says dumb stuff sometimes. They aren't pretending his past is as pure as the driven snow. I see more cultism from the leftists. They are incapable of admitting any wrong. Someone goes around using fake accents. That's code switching. Joe gets forced out of the race because he is experiencing dementia. He is showing his love for the country, and his timing in doing so is genius. myata referred to it as a "masterstroke".
  7. I speak differently to friends and family than I do at work. But my accent doesn't change. My accent certainly doesn't change when I go to different places. Most people don't do that. Madonna did it. Britney did it. Democrats do it. But most people do not do that. You are being ridiculous here.
  8. I don't think Trump is a racist. I think he does say really bad stuff sometimes the same way that everyone has in bad moments. Trump just has his bad moments in public. I mean if you want to talk about racism, I think it's more racist when someone like Biden says "they want to put y'all back in chains." He was clearly using a disturbing period in history to instill fear in a group of people. He knows that it is a fear black people live with. He knows that his political opponent was in no danger of doing this. But he chooses to use this fear to manipulate them. He even tried to mimic a stereotypical accent. That is racist. Democrats have used race for years. But maybe the appearance of racism is a greater concern than actual racism, in the same way that appearing principled is more important than having principles.
  9. We aren't talking about the last 40 years. Jeb Bush may have beaten Hillary. But that has nothing to do with the fact that conservatives back away from what they believe in when they are challenged or called racist for their principles in the media. They become apologetic. No fight. Maybe you don't see it. But other people do. They feel that the mainstream, principled conservatives are not much different than Hillary. They view their base as largely a basket of deplorables. They see that voters are leaving them and going to Trump, but refuse to understand why. Why it can't possibly have anything to do with us! Utter absurdity! We didn't lose these voters. Trump just stole them. Trump is a pied piper, and the people are just stupid. Sometimes when people tell you they are taking the high road the truth is they are really just on a high horse.
  10. I think the democrat party is far more dangerous.
  11. I think many people see Trump as the better choice. They are taking responsibility for their votes. They don't see Trump as being any more criminal than the rest of Washington. 34 felonies over a hush money payment? Being in possession of classified documents when Biden was guilty of the same thing? It's not just the Democrat party that pushed people out. It was the Republican party as well. The principled, stately conservatives ignored the concerns of their own voters. What good are principles if you never stand for them? They were more concerned with appearing principled than actual principals. Voters saw this. They saw that the principled conservatives cowered the second they got challenged in the media or someone accused them of racism.
  12. No one could ever accuse you of being overdramatic.
  13. Angela Carini abandons Olympic fight after 46 seconds against Imane Khelif https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/aug/01/angela-carini-abandons-fight-after-46-seconds-against-imane-khelif
  14. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has ordered a direct strike on Israel for the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, according to a report Wednesday, as he and other top Iranian officials vowed a response to the Palestinian terror chief’s assassination in Tehran. Citing three unnamed Iranian officials briefed on the matter, including two Revolutionary Guard members, the New York Times reported that Khamenei gave the directive at an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council held shortly after Haniyeh’s killing was announced Wednesday morning. https://www.timesofisrael.com/khamenei-said-to-order-direct-strike-on-israel-after-haniyeh-killed-in-tehran/
  15. Well, I think Trump fully believed the election was stolen. I don't think the Republican Party are the ones promoting QAnon. But let's agree to disagree. It was clear to many people for at least three years that Joe Biden was dottled. But we were constantly gas-lit by Democrats that he was better than ever. Sharp as a tack. Not only that, but we were told that people pointing it out were liars. Videos of Joe were cheapfakes. That is a big lie. Why do they do it, BeaverFever? Why is the Democrat party such a lie machine? How do we defend ourselves against their constant misinformation and disinformation?
  16. Let me rephrase, then. In your opinion power is the most important thing?
  17. So, in your opinion, power justifies the most absurd lies?
  18. This is just it. It's like George Soros. If you are critical of him it automatically means you are anti-Semitic. You are told you are perpetuating a Jewish conspiracy theory because Soros happens to be Jewish. One guy. But then they argue that it is ok to be critical of Israel. And I agree, it is ok to be critical of Israel. I support Israel, but I don't think criticism automatically makes one an anti-semite. Racism is like a game to the left. They want to play this game, and they want to make all the rules.
  19. So, in the liberal mindset, it is anti-Semitic to be critical of the ADL, but "from the river to the sea" is perfectly copacetic?
  20. I seem to recall it started when he began talking about buying Twitter.
  21. I think Trump believed that the election was stolen and still does. You neglect to mention that he encouraged them to stop the steal by marching peacefully and patriotically. That is quite dishonest. But then what else can I expect? Thank you for posting. I think your post is something we all can examine as we try to put our fingers on why Democrats lie so much.
  22. So it's almost as if lying about the fact that he has clearly been losing his mental faculties for a few years now was not enough for them. They then have to lie about the reason we were expressing concerns about Joe Biden in the first place. What makes them do this I wonder? Why does every lie need yet another lie tacked on to it, and then another lie? Can they help themselves?
  23. Yes, but since we have a thread where we can discuss how the Republicans are a lie machine, I thought it might be a good idea to start a similar one. Though, I think there hasn't really been much discussion of specific Republican lies in that thread, I am hoping, perhaps in vain, that this one will do a better job of staying on point. Thank you for posting, Five of swords.
  24. I think it is hard to deny that the Democrat party has become a lie machine. Oh my, what a degradation! They have claimed that Trump was colluding with the Russians. They denied the fact that Trump urged protestors to be peaceful. Adam Schiff went so far as to concoct his own dramatized conversation between Trump and Zelensky. More recently, they have spun his comments to Christian voters as proof that he will abolish the vote. It's plain to see that Democrats are willing to make the most fantastic accusations in order to slander their political opposition. There are, of course, many more examples of extreme Democrat deceitfulness than the ones I have mentioned. It is with this in mind that I have decided to open up this topic for discussion.
