The "diabolical lie".. this implies that women do not know the costs and benefits of pursuing a degree and a career. It also assumes that they will not become mothers and homemakers later on in life. My wife and I waited until she was 36 and I was 40. Waited until both the bachelors and Phd were complete for both of us. A lot of women that I know have the degree/career early on, build up resources/savings, and then when it is time for the kids ease up on the career. They are not mutually exclusive.

Energy is not the only input or sector in an economy. It simply occupies a special place because the consumer has little to no control over the price in the short term. Gas is $4.25 per gallon here in Carson City. I can shop around and the lowest is $4.00... not big of a difference. Its called price elasticity of demand. Gas is a relatively inelastic good. Prices go up by 2%.. demand may go down by .3% at best.

The craft brew industry has reached its apex. The true microbreweries that are not owned by larger companies are becoming fewer. They still do exist.. just not as numerous as in the past.

Taking pride in one's race is hollow and in my opinion shows a profound lack of intellect. Why? Because one has zero control over being born caucasian, black, etc. To take pride in something that you do not control is simply hollow. Take pride in your accomplishments, decisions, etc but your race, height, or hair color is meaningless.

what is interesting is that most who care about politics think that the President controls the economy. Before your fingers start humming.. not controlling does not mean that he does not impact it. The assumption on here is that consumer decision making, supply and demand, import-exports, monetary policy (not set by President) are just trivial talking points.

This is simple human nature. Path of least resistance. Why put a ton of time, research, and energy into something while only having one vote when you can mail it in and still have one vote? It is simple cost vs. benefit. This is why most Americans do not seriously take third party candidates into account.

There has been a story going through social media that Kansas City cancelled three Pearl Jam shows. Eddie Vedder, singer for Pearl Jam, at a show in Las Vegas expressed his dislike of Butker's views. Supposedly Kansas city stands behind Butker and so cancelled three Pearl Jam concerts. The problem is that there never was any scheduled Kansas City shows in the upcoming tour cycle. If you want to, go to https://pearljam.com/tour, and look. Second, to have 3 dates in one city and not have it be a residency... is almost unheard of. If Pearl Jam was going to do 3 nights in one city.. it would be Vancouver or Seattle. This reminds me of the fake story that Jason aldean and Oliver Anthony would be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show. Quite a few (on here and elsewhere) reflexively reacted saying things like, "the NFL is getting it right. They know that we wont put up with those woke, mediocre hip hop acts".. and then guess what? Usher was the actual halftime show act.

The so-called Independents or those who do not register as anything are the mushy people. A lot of research is done to figure out why they do not identify/register as an R or D and then how to appeal to them. as for myself.. life is simply not that black and white where one way is always the best way. Besides, neither party even makes an attempt to achieve my number one issue.. govt spending.

Pro-Hamas Rallies in Canada

have you ever heard of a trilogy named Cities of Salt? If not, you should give it a try. Fundamentalist Muslims loathe these books. Why? It tells a story where the Westerners are not the devils but almost pawns that come into the game (proverbial) just a bit late. -
Simple tribal human nature. If you are someone who is politically liberal or identifies a Democrat, you will vote for Biden not because he is so great. Rather you vote Biden because he is the choice with the D next to this name. Straight ticket voting... very tribal but also makes the decision easier. less research, less deliberation.

Pro-Hamas Rallies in Canada

Israel knows that another attack by Hamas or Hezbollah is coming. It is simply a matter of minimizing the damage of those attacks and possibly cutting down on the number of them. This will continue as both insist on being the master of the given land area. Some of this gets exacerbated by the climate. Hot, arid, dry climates inherently have a resource scarcity and that brings desperation into it. The reason that Jordan, Syria, Egypt do not simply absorb them into their population is that they are stretched thin already when it comes to water, electricity, and agricultural output. -

Israel should be allowed the right to defend itself and to exist as a nation. When you attack as Hamas did on Oct. 7.. they knew that Israel would counterattack. Depending on one's perspective.. they are overreacting or not. When you attack someone and kill hundreds, you can't demand that react equal to you. For example.. hamas kills 500 and then Israel kills 500 and we are even. Not happening. Israel is trying to take measures to ensure that the next attack by Hamas takes place a date further out in time or is lesser in scale. -
That is another aspect to Sudan/South Sudan/Eritrea that differs from Israel. Yes, the mostly arbitrary national boundaries created by the colonial powers has caused a lot of conflict and deaths. The national boundaries cross the tribal boundaries and being that they care more about the tribe than the nation, the conflict has another layer. The conflict in Sudan is between the more Arab north (better economically) and the poorer but darker skinned African population in the South. It mostly boils down to a rural vs. urban rift coupled with Islam vs. Non-Islam.

This weekend tried out an "impossible" burger. While not the worst, there was a subtle difference. If it was the only option, I would eat it and probably be ok. In general, my family and I have decreased (not eliminated) our meat intake with beef being the major item subtracted. It is not a political stance.. just simply a matter of health and preference.

To conclude, I believe in free speech so would defend Butker's right to express these views. The divide (at least on here) is the interpretation. I interpret his speech as being one where he thinks that women should focus more on being mothers and homemakers and not pursuing degrees and careers. The validity of that is not the point though. You can agree or disagree with it and that's fine. I do like that when pressed about it.. his coach Andy Reid simply said, "I support free speech". He should not be released or any action such as that. Plenty of athletes away from the field express all sorts of unpopular views.

Well, I am one of those that finds no fault in a woman not wanting to have kids or waiting. If they pursue the degree/career first and then the family. Men have followed this path for decades.. why can't the women? Some think that by waiting. they have fewer kids and that is not the optimal way to be. I would rather have quality of interaction over quantity. I have 2 and that's enough. My late father created six and as a result, worked very hard and was either not around or in too poor of health for quality interaction.

A few things.. 1. This has been ongoing in some form or another since the late 1970's. 2. the nations involved; Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, Eritrea, Libya, and Egypt are mostly poor and off the radar. I read more African literature than anyone on this forum and its probably not even close. And even then, this story is not the lead one on my radar. 3. Because of the relatively poverty of most of these nations listed.. media coverage is quite spotty. Yes, there is information as you found. However, there is not nearly the media coverage needed to fuel a protest. 4. Lastly, most Americans have little direct or familial connection to Sudan, Chad, Eritrea, or South Sudan.

Butker was giving this speech at a Catholic university so not exactly out of place. His view of having women not pursue careers but rather stay at home and procreate is not exactly new. He hedges on this by saying "some have successful careers and so on".. which is just a roundabout way of saying that most would have better lives if they did not pursue the degree and career. This is a reaction in part to the current declining birth rate in the US which i do not see as a major problem in the long run.
