That won't matter that much 3 years from now. While people may have a somewhat positive or negative impression events over the next 3 years, they will mostly associate him with trump. If trump's star is still shining at that point Vance will have a severe advantage. If not, Rubio's got a real shot by claiming that he is still a fan of trump's better policies but will bring them forward in a more stable in adult way or some sort of argument along those lines.
