Ontario needs to invest in EVs as a realistic Option.
Perspektiv replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I just don't see how an EV would be practical for most of the working class in Canada. Heck, even many in the middle class, who don't own homes in the suburbs. I am all for EVs, and can't wait until someone makes the breakthrough that would definitely put me first in line to get one. IE a battery that charges in less than 10 minutes, and an EV that could do a 5-6 hour trip with fuel leftover with all comforts considered (heater, air conditioning etc). I couldn't care less about the planet. I have a remote starter on my ICE. I idle it until its nice and toasty in the winter. EV makers or rather politicians, need to stop putting a moral code to these kinds of vehicles. Most won't give a s***. Understand that if you make these vehicles practical and fun to drive, people will. Did you get an I phone because it was like the old cellphones? No. You did or grabbed an Android shortly after, because it was better than your brick or flip cellphone in every single way. People are selfish. If someone scolded me for diving an EV, I would probably idle my car for an hour parked next to it. I refuse to give up a single creature comfort for the sake of the planet. "But the planet will be destroyed!" And I should care, because? "Don't you want to be alive?" Of course. And will be until I die. But the planet will only get to that point when am long gone, so it will suck for all the future generations of entitled kids. I don't understand the tragedy. -
Is our Canada a better place since 2015 . . . ?

Trudeau couldn't have prevented covid, nor prevented damage from it. I think any leader would have struggled during such unprecedented times. Where I feel we are worst off, is Trudeau's deliberate divisiveness. I have never seen a more divided country in my entire life. Things are slowly getting back to normal, but I don't think there ever will be a fully normal ever again. I see a nation that has only up to go. The current leadership isn't the right one for that task. -
Yeah, I have been to China. I always ask people who want bigger government if they have ever been to a country where this is the norm. I have yet to meet one. A lot of things look great on paper. Its why architect drawings are meaningless without engineering and physics behind them.

Stop giving them free drugs. Stop incentivizing their lifestyles. So many can work. Provide more incentives to get off the streets. Make housing more affordable. Stop making it so painfully long/difficult to find affordable housing. Its the catch 22. How can I get a job, looking like I slept on the streets? Many of these people have lost everything. They need hope, not a crack pipe. Some are lost causes, but enforce laws that keep them from seeing opportunity in doing petty crime for profit. I don't think you can ever eradicate homelessness as let's be real. Some people are lazy and just don't want to work. For those who are there due to circumstances, the hoops to jump out should be smaller.

Yeah, they have the Hillux in the Philippines, which effortlessly outsells the Maverick or equivalent trucks. They are much nicer looking, too. I wouldn't be surprised for that truck to do similar, here. Insanely practical, and sharp interior. -

Its sad, because then people like Trump seem like a great idea. You then get Biden, and then you realize you were handed a crack pipe. You had been promised Crown Royale with truffles. After crack, heroin doesn't seem like such a bad idea. This batch comes with a bag of Cheetos. And people are confident Trump doesn't stand a chance... Thats the scary part. America is craving fine wine. The days where politics were like watching paint dry. -

Joe Biden has it on cruise control, nodding off, only that the car isn't equipped with such a feature. Trump is a bull in a China shop. Only that those sculptures are nukes and diplomatic partners. One just sounds better. In actual, you're picking which one is least horrible. -

Tons of cars are nicely equipped, standard. You won't need the top trim. Kia generously equips theirs. Nissan. 30, 35k range EVs won't touch the interior quality you get on an ICE. I am on the market for an SUV or pickup. Nothing EV compares at comparative rates. -
I just don't understand the Ukraine will win camp. Russia will refuse to leave until they have something they can present to their people as a win. They have lost far to much, to allow for loss of a war on top of things. Russia is at a point of desperation of being okay with systematically destroying as much of Ukraine as possible. The longer this war rages on that is precisely what they will keep doing. I just don't understand how they could frame this as a win for Ukraine. Power to them, they are still standing and they still have a government. This isn't a Ukraine win, its a catastrophic Russian failure. Boasting about this being a win, is like Mike Tyson bragging about beating an opponent who tears his hamstring during the fight, causing a stoppage. If the fight was even, no less. I get it. It makes people feel better about themselves. But there is a point where this becomes delusional.

There was no plan. This was a hail Mary, as Russia had overwhelmed Ukrainian forces. I hope for your country's sake, that they are more humble in combat, than you in debate. Arrogance is what put the nail in Russia's initial goals. Most people tend to learn from their mistakes. If they have, expect them to have considerations for all of their failures. Ukraine doesn't stand a chance vs a smarter and wiser Russia.

I was talking Canadian dollars. A sub 25K car is easy to find. I could effortlessly find you a dozen. -

Many want EVs, many just don't think they are ready to adopt the technology just yet, when ICEs are still way better. ICEs are still king. Pickup trucks are king in the US. ICEs dominate in this segment because there is just nothing on the market that can do the job as well, at the same price. You sure can. Realostixally, sub 25k if you want a loaded vehicle. Tons of options at that range. If you're willing to shell an average 50K, you will go with what is most convenient for you. Not what is best for the planet. The moment EVs offer something that competes with ICEs in every way, the technology only then, will be as good as dead. -
The soldiers I saw documented, knew it was luck. This is why Ukraine has the upper hand. They were humble enough to know how lucky that they were. Russia, was arrogant and didn't have the humility of respecting the danger their opponent presented to them. Totally luck, and while preparation is key to them getting to scatter afterwards, that lucky break initiated it all, as was unplanned and didn't initially go as planned on the Ukrainian side. They are also planning a counter attack. Who prepared best will have the upper hand. Or, this can be negotiated to a stop. Russia still has nukes and hypersonic missiles. Underestimating Russia would be the worst thing Ukraine could possibly do. They have held back on better assets like aircraft to avoid further humiliation.

I won't lie. I see a maga hat or an Antifa logo and assume whatever they will be said will be low IQ. -
Their plan failed catastrophically, so Ukraine isn't exactly just going to stand idly while Russians are stuck in the mud like sitting ducks. They fled because of sheer incompetence. They made catastrophic logistical mistakes which made them easy pickings. They underestimated their opponent, yet had the power to suffocate them. Ukraine knew the land, took advantage and fought harder. There are many reasons, including management styles from the top down in Russia, which mean if your top staff is compromised, you have a bunch of employees waiting for orders. If Russia has learned anything, expect different results once the battles regain momentum this year. He has far more bodies he can throw into this to buy time until 2024. Tell that to the many soldiers who were beheaded on live TV by armed militants. Time will tell, but I put my money on Russia being far more dangerous this time around.

When I was in Hong Kong a couple months ago, EVs were literally everywhere. There are cities in China where a massive amount of the vehicles, are EVs. Hong Kong is a bus friendly city. Walking and subways are king. It makes zero sense to own a car there unless you're wealthy. Even then, it just makes more sense to have an EV. The American market is different. Road trips are king. Many have cottages. EVs wouldn't suit most people. Sure, most day to day driving is perfect for the EV. But if I like driving to see family in the US and the drive is 8 hours. It would be a painful trek to make with an EV. I could almost make the bulk of the trip with my car, stopping for a couple minutes to stretch and fuel up. EVs will be replacing ICEs. They just aren't there yet. Government pressure won't make the technology good enough to any quicker. Targets are good, just like design drawings. I agree. Most do not. Most can't afford a house. My point precisely. Why most don't buy EVs. -

Never said worse. Pointed to the fact that neither are clean. Was pointing to the hypocrisy. EVs currently are greener. Not green. If your overall carbon footprint is still large, you're simply creating a different problem. Based on sales, aren't for most on market for cars. -
Luck is the only thing that stood between Kyiv being taken and fighting off Russia. A desperate hail marry move by swift military personel, is what Zelensky owes his life to. Same reason he knew when making a few calls to some leaders, that they may never speak to him again. Nobody in this war, are in a position to be boastful. Especially not Russia. They should be ashamed. It would also destabilize the region. This helps nobody, and makes the area unpredictable. They were highly incompetent. I highly doubt they would try to lose on their second attempt after what they have learned. The fear is similar. They don't fight, they die, albeit one side is motivated to fight like you said. Everything is riding on this gamble from Putin. He literally holds the keys to the future to both his country and Ukraine. George Bush is a close second, albeit he killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi soldiers and innocent civilians, over nothing. The beauty of propaganda. Same reason I don't think for a second Putin will lose popularity anytime soon. There is not a chance Bush will face consequences for what he has done, and highly unlikely that Putin will either.
