I don't consider this as being woke. Its common sense. Its in a societys best interests for its population to be as educated as possible, and for their health to be as little a tax burden as possible. Where my conservative kicks in, is someone able to work, who feels entitled to free housing and a cheque at the first of the month.

Some parts don't work.

Its not surgery during childhood. Its hormone blockers. Its sold as perfectly safe, and side effects are glossed over by some mainstream influencers. If you're trans, no issue. A child feeling they may be, making permanent changes to their bodies, is another story. Results would be disastrous. If you are saying there are zero serious side effects to hormone blockers, you're precisely what is wrong with the movement. Activism takes precedent over common sense. I believe it's a case by case basis. You can't treat until you're certain, or cue in major lawsuits. So are the complications. Suicides are still high post surgical intervention. No. But someone who may have gender dysphoria just maybe may not benefit from surgery or even treatment. I strongly believe in case by case basis treatment. Well, I want trans rights. Most people do. It's not a left or right thing. If your kid came out as trans, you wouldn't love them any less, nor would I. I side with trans rights shouldn't erode women's rights or come at the expense of them. Am also against hormone blockers for children under a certain age. Talking about these things with an open mind, is healthy. Shutting down dialogue, is dangerous, especially medically. For the record, am conservative but am along the middle. Meaning, I deliberately watch leftist media and right wing media. Somewhere along the middle, is the truth. I prefer logic, and at either extreme, none is available. If you can't even admit this for both sides, it proves your bias. I am in Canada, and Canada in general, is quite centrist. I would disagree. Countries best run, are closer to the middle. Meaning logic and care take precedence. The US is deeply divided, and run by extremists deliberately dividing the country. Intelligence is looking at all sides and making an assessment. You ignore the other side, which is divisive and means you're blind to half the picture. Notice how I didn't insult you for leaning left? You being left leaning is irrelevant. Its what you support, that I will debate you on. Being a leftist doesn't make you any better than a conservative. Vice versa. If you honestly believe it does, it simply shows you have bought into the hate they are selling you, and are spewing it out. Do yourself a favor. Think for yourself and look at all sides prior to passing judgment. Life is so much better without hate in your heart.

Should the International Community Intervene in Haiti?

Haiti was always standing near the precipice. Covid-19, has shoved it to where it is teetering over the edge. -
Should the International Community Intervene in Haiti?
Perspektiv replied to Perspektiv's topic in The Rest of the World
Am not surprised. Vigilante justice is the norm in Haiti. My mother had told me a story about a woman accused of witchcraft. Her fate? She was beaten and tied to a tree and set on fire. Now, I unfortunately have heard the human screams of someone burning to death, but if you haven't, consider yourself lucky. It sticks with you for life. This is not surprising. You back a dog against a wall and you give it no choice but to attack with all it's might. Their jobs are gone. Their society is gone. If I have nothing left then dying no longer is a fear. You fear death when you have something to lose. Something to live for. It (sadly) is something worth looking forward to, as long as they die fighting. Solutions must come from within, and in considering that, I have zero hope for Haiti. I always wanted my wife to experience where am from, as I have experienced her country, but don't think this realistic let alone sensible. -
First there are tests done to be certain there is a cancer. Locate it, then treat it. More even, research to fully understand cancer and improve treatments, and potentially eliminate its ability to kill so many. This involves accepting some treatments aren't optimal. The first lawsuit (with many more to come) from a detransitioned individual, showcases that gender affirming care doesn't work for all suffering from forms of dysphoria. Suicides don't dramatically drop with such treatment. Questioning things, allows for the improvement of services in some who desperately need it. Good luck finding someone talking about the good the bad and the ugly of gender affirming care without serious consequences for the latter. This is precisely what makes gender ideology and the trans movement so attractive to impressionable kids. Many are following, but aren't truly trans and will unfortunately have undergone irreversible treatments to their bodies by the time that they realize it. I like how you worded that. Of course most Americans side with trans people having rights. They are no less human than the rest of us. Things get murky regarding sports, and administering treatment to children. Oh, and the rights of kids to choose their own pronouns, or schools to witthold any of this to parents from a transitioning child. That or predatory indoctrination. When you're specific, you find Americans are deeply divided on the issue. The irony, is that people like you are all for the destruction of society. They somehow believe if everything is torn down, they can build it back up. Seeing squatter areas in Portland and similar cities that went fully woke, anyone with common sense knows woke policies don't work. Sensible ones, do.

I don't believe in free housing, but that's my opinion. However, I strongly believe there should be affordable housing.

No, communism is the erosion of free speech. Something today's woke are doing. Trying to reform police by defunding it, making crime skyrocket. Making a mockery of gender, irregardless of future consequence, feminizing men and eroding women's rights. Thats the woke that gets mocked. There are parts of socialism that work. Free education, and access to health care, are two of them which work to your benefit as a society.

"Maybe childhood makes you sad sometimes, and there are other solutions than hand me the d*** saw" Bill Maher When you question the trendiness of the trans movement, you get canceled. When you question the affirmation of gender identity, without being thorough, you get silenced. Should this lawsuit prove successful, there will be a massive domino effect, as people start to wake up. I wanted a vasectomy. I had to undergo so much questioning before even remotely being allowed to be considered for one. This is responsible medical care. What you're pushing will have a domino effect later, with thousands of lawsuits, sterilized adults and other issues time will only tell.

Just like the far left go from liberal policies, to lunacy seamlessly. When you start to confuse what it is to be a man or a woman (or struggle to define the latter without adding how complicated that it is), you fit the bill.
-
Because babies understand gender norms. Like I said, gender is determined at birth--not assigned. It isn't at all. Seeing someone like this naked in the gym, and feeling threatened as a woman is perfectly normal. Women will lose some of their rights. Allowing a trans woman like the one I posted above in say, a female jail, is a violation of the rights of all the women that are there.

How's that working for the US?

I'm as conservative as they come, and have never been unemployed longer than a week, since early teens. Speak for yourself.

I think access to affordable housing, should be a right. Free shelter, am not so keen on, as a result. I feel the same with regards to charity in general. I'm all for helping people back on their feet.

While you make great points, involving an apathetic or incompetent government in taking the initiative to fix this, may have unintended consequences. But definitely do agree with you, that something has to be done. You eradicate the anxieties that push some to doing drugs and becoming homeless in the first place, in giving people access to housing.

Its that teach a man to fish vs giving him fish idea. One, you'll create a self-sufficient man who will be able to feed his family. The other, you'll create a dependency, and eventually entitlement behind his expectation to obtain fish. This incentive goes away, and you'll have a useless man who will be lost as to what to do. Kind of like a domesticated cat. Out in the wild, they become useless. They're food, really.

I think government should remove the red tape that makes building affordable housing impossible, to begin with. The red tape, make it insanely expensive to get a building permit. The sheer time it takes, means that often a builder by the time shovels hit the ground, are dealing with cost increases that likely weren't accounted for at times. It just incentivizes building expensive buildings, to recoup your ROI quicker. I see similar in Hong Kong. Housing is insanely expensive there, yet there is so much land available to build on. Why would the government build on it, when they can charge a king's ransom for available lots, forcing builders to build immense skyscrapers at high costs to the consumer, to recoup their investments? A very similar thing is happening in cities like New York. So to answer your question, yes -- the government should do something. Its do less. Incentivize building. Not only this, but green and affordable building. Or at least, this is my humble opinion. Sorry, but I don't trust the federal government to play landlord with its level of incompetence.

You're eluding to stereotypical behavior. I am eluding to instictive and primal behavior. I don't see the assignment from a doctor determining sex by looking at the genitals and recording the gender. So if a trans woman doesn't pass and still has male genitalia decides to shower in the women's gym, your logic has any female feeling threatened needs to have their heads checked, as they are being transphobic. This ignores their natural instincts. Their safety. Their natural womanhood. They see a male. Self identify as you see fit. The world isn't obligated to play along. Certainly not at the expense of hard fought for women's rights. Biological women, to be clear. Nothing wrong with being trans. Something incredibly wrong with those pushing trans ideology to children. This has nothing to do with rights, no more than defunding the police has nothing to do with actually protecting the black community.

There is no way am reading all of that. No disrespect, but the OP needs to learn the fine art of taking a huge chunk of an article or text, summarizing it, and posting a link for those in the mood to read it all. This is a lost art, but in grade school we had this power drilled into our heads. This shows you understood what you read, so much so, that you could extract the gist of it all and best yet, put it in your words. Vs the CNN tactic of overloading with info, and then asking you what you feel about something vs breaking it down for you. If those in fact are your own words, my apologies and big respect if you researched all of that.

"Giving to those in need what they can be gaining of their own initiative may well be the kindest way to destroy people" Robert D. Lupton Some experts believe the United States is currently experiencing a toxic charity crisis. I.E The instinct to give, creating dependency and entitlement, vs develop and allowing the basic human dignity of being able to get oneself out and back onto their feet. You look at places like some countries in Europe, where some have incredibly low homelessness rates, you see a consistency. I.E affordable housing, strong emphasis on living wages, and heavy investment into critical things such as education, health, etc. Agree, disagree?

So you're butt hurt over their past failures and are hating on fans who have long waited for this moment because you can't get over it. Life is short. I'll never understand a hateful heart. I mean, you waste so much life and energy. If I hated the leafs, I'd follow sports I like instead. You prefer wasting moments you don't get back, on a team you've moved past. What is your end game? Trying to hurt a fan who is elated and won't come down from the high they just had (heavy emphasis on the trying) ? Try to act like you hate a team, you secretly want to advance but too scared to show it? I mean, they just won. Its like mocking Lebron James. He's rich. He's an MVP. Okay, good for you, you hate a successful entity. What have you done, lately? I won't give you any further response until you sound logical. Cue in another nonsensical retort. Stage is yours.

They have two powerful teams in the Leafs and Oilers which will threaten for a finals appearance, guaranteed granted either remain healthy. After decades of coming up short as a nation. This is inspiration for all. If you hate on that, then that's something wrong with you. You lack a functional IQ or pulse, if you don't realize hockey is Canada's sport. Find me more passionate fans this side of the pond.

By today's standards, just about any leader in that era would be.

I can't think of any other team more deserving to punch a ticket to the second round. I'm sure other teams have droughts, but just to lose how Toronto has in the past, to me made them due for a break sooner or later. They definitely have a solid team to make a run and more importantly, clutch goaltending in Samsonov which save for save, was able to rival the best (arguably) in the league at the other end. Whether you love or hate the Leafs, I think that Canada has been cup starved since 1993. If you can hate on any Canadian team pushing deep in the playoffs, something is wrong with you.
