Trump is attempting to rebrand the DoD as the Department of War and calling Hegseth his Secretary of War, then federalizing National Guard troops under the "DoW" and deploying them against his own citizens not keep peace but to cause violence. Warlike? Check--and with the branding to prove it. Trump created DOGE, a bureaucratic agency, to attack and weaken the existing bureaucracy so that he could replace bureaucracy with political loyalists who can turn that bureaucracy to his political ends rather than simply conducting the business of the nation. And he's been open and explicit about this process. Another fascist hallmark. Trump indeed supports a centralized government and is attempting to consolidate all power--direct and indirect--in his office, including explicit support of the unitary executive theory, financial (and now military) action against states in which citizens politically oppose him, circumventing congress, defying the courts, exerting control over local elections and local law enforcement. The federal government has never been more powerful--or used to such political ends--than under Trump. Fascist check. Trump has implemented the most bizarre trade policy in living memory, attacking and destroying traditional trade (and military) relationships in favor of protectionism and isolationism.
