Why is Canada such a mess in so many ways?
I am Groot replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Oh, quit your snivelling. You act like they never mentioned getting rid of various taxes until the day before the election or something. They never insisted that regulations hampering industry had to be cut back. Never demanded bail rules and laws that were causing havoc be removed. The only 'constructive criticism' you lot can see is whatever agrees with you. -

Just because I know you're trolling doesn't mean I don't want to answer your nonsense. -
Well, that would be those endless parades of angry foreign Muslims in our streets screaming about how we need to kill Jews Zionists. There are a number of differences. First, their preferences are not reflected in government policy, and never have been or there'd be no Palestinians. On the other hand, we saw on Oct 7 what Palestinians would do if they ever got loose in a civilized country. If you think they wouldn't do the same thing here, you're very much mistaken. They only lack the power.

This not only negatively affects our productivity, but lowers wages while increasing costs for things like housing. It benefits only the oligopolies who get to sell more services and make more profit, and benefits landholders. It negatively impacts everyone else. Without much in the way of screening. We've seen a huge surge in Indo-crime since then. Besides which, as one columnist wrote, Canada's system was based on being very careful of who we let in. As such, we don't really have much of a system for making them leave. Our clunky, antiquated judicial system is so strangled with red tape it can take years to deport anyone. Our refugee determination system is even worse, with pressure placed on judges to push people through as fast as possible to eliminate backlogs. And since it requires almost no paperwork to approve a refugee but a lot to reject them due to the inevitable slew of legal challenges, well, we have an 87% acceptance rate. And we often don't even know who these people are as they destroy their papers before showing up. Because of this, a lot of those 'students' and 'temp workers' are just applying for refugee status if their visas aren't renewed. That will buy them years more in Canada. And even if we order them to leave they usually don't. We don't keep track, and we have no group that can go look for them. I've read that one out of five new immigrants are Muslims. That's not a good thing for a civilized society. If you look to Europe, once they reach a certain level they start to assert themselves and demand accommodation. I think they're already reaching that level here with their continuous 'kill all the Jews' parades through downtown streets. They don't bother to get permits, and ignore the police since the cops are ordered to keep their hands off by leftist politicians who want Muslim votes. And yet, Carney is continuing it with only minor variations.

Conservatives believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Not, at least, until you're absolutely sure the 'fix' will work better. The problem with the Left is it implements policies on 'feels', not on data and logic, attacks anyone who disagrees with the policy by pretending they're not only wrong but immoral, and then can't back away from obviously failed policies without admitting that they too are 'immoral'. As far as I can tell, the major 'want' of the 'right' is to stop flooding the country (all Western countries) with unskilled labour, stop flooding the country (all Western countries) with foreigners with hostile cultures and values who will not integrate, get control of crime and disorder in the streets, and cut back on the mass of regulations that burdens industry, especially the natural resources industry. Oh, and stop spending billions on the failed policy of CO2 reduction. Oh, and we'd like to see hiring and promotion based on merit not on identity group membership. -

op·po·si·tion /ˌäpəˈziSH(ə)n/ noun resistance or dissent, expressed in action or argument. "there was considerable opposition to the proposal" "Hey, we're better than that shithole over there! So don't complain just because we keep sliding in the same direction! Be grateful we're not there yet!" -

Apparently, despite mouthing off about it for years, you don't know anything about how our political system works. -

Hell, the Liberals have adopted many of the ideas the Conservatives brought forward. The US has the same screwed up revolving door legal system as we do in most places. -

The Liberals have adopted American social justice policies which have failed miserably there and have failed miserably here. The idea is that all criminals, however violent, are really the victims of society. Especially if they're not white Christians. Anyone else is presumed to be the victim of harsh and brutal racism and oppression and so must be coddled and comforted and excused their criminality as it's not really their fault. This is especially so of Black people because they're incredibly inferior and it's wrong to expect them to act in a civilized manner like white people.* At the same time they've also adopted climate change policies which have hugely hampered our resource industry while growing government bureaucracy and the regulatory environment, so that it can take years and years to cut through all the red tape to get anything built or started. And even if you succeed, the added costs of following all the regulations, keeping records of everything, and regularly forwarding these to government make things much less profitable. *Yes, I know they don't openly think this and would be appalled at anyone who did but this is, deep down, how they think about Black people. That's why they're so paternalistic towards them with a kind of "There, there, little thing. It's not your fault you poor creature" attitude. -

Look at Singapore for a better example. Stern laws and sometimes harsh enforcement, but still a democracy with a free press and independent courts. See Singapore or Japan. -

Read the room. Does sharing policies and rhetoric style with Trump, as Canadians unify against who he is, what he's doing and what he stands for, seem like good strategy to you?? I don't think you know what a red tory is and I don't think you know what a strawman is either. I pointed out some of the aspects of 'woke' that you suggest red Tories would be angry that the Conservatives are opposed to. You clearly don't have the ability to argue against that, which is why you deleted it even as you responded by calling it a 'strawman'.

Not that much. The cite you give says that exact quote was not in the book, not that it was wrong about what Carney was saying. Apparently it comes from a columnist who reviewed it. But that doesn't suggest the columnist was wrong in what he wrote. In his book Value(s): Building a Better World for All, Mark Carney, former governor both of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, claims that western society is morally rotten, and that it has been corrupted by capitalism, which has brought about a “climate emergency” that threatens life on earth. This, he claims, requires rigid controls on personal freedom, industry and corporate funding. Note the difference when the reviewer is giving actual quotes. Carney’s Brave New World will be one of severely constrained choice, less flying, less meat, more inconvenience and more poverty: “Assets will be stranded, used gasoline powered cars will be unsaleable, inefficient properties will be unrentable,” he promises. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/peter-foster-mark-carney-man-of-destiny-arises-to-revolutionize-society-it-wont-be-pleasant
