Yeah. WE were talking about how your NDP friend rigged the bid to make sure China got it. And you come back with Harper sold oil companies to china for some reason. I thought you said Harper sold this. Now you're just saying the government approved a sale? I thought you were suggesting Harper was involved, like going to China with a briefcase full of leases and eagerly offering them around. But no, it's just a routine approval of a small oil company that is sold to a foreign company. Yeah, the Chinese were buying Canadian oil companies. You know why? Because the legislative changes the Liberals and NDP put in place and their deep hostility to oil and gas development were making it extremely difficult for companies to get investors interested in them or to get loans to expand, and it was either sell or close down. What has this got to do with the Liberals funding the NDP purchase of Chinese ships? Just how deep in China's pocket is Eby and the BC NDP? How much influence do they have with the federal Liberals? Evidently a LOT. And where is that foreign agents law? You mean the trans mountain one to the coast, don't you? Try to keep focused. And to repeat, because apparently you have a lot of trouble following discussions, you plan for tomorrow's production, not what you're putting out today. Also, you plan for what might happen with our neighbors. Ie, it would sure be nice to be able to divert a lot more of our oil to the coast to send to Japan if the Americans refuse to pay world prices. Uhh, sure bud. Whatever. I notice that a lot of people, when they're losing arguments and can't think of anything else to put out there, start accusing the other person of being upset or emotional or something. It's almost an internet cliche. But if that makes you feel all manly, go for it.

All the Left are authoritarian-minded. The Khmer Rouge were just what happens when they win. Every socialist government morphs into authoritarianism because it believes it is on a just and noble endeavor to uplift the human race and make life better for all. So they don't see people as just having a disagreement. If you are opposed to them then you're opposed to making life better for people. Which makes you evil. Which means you aren't to be debated, but have to be stopped. Thus you have the NDP proposing that people who disagree with the narrative on residential schools be jailed and the Liberals proposing people be imprisoned for what they MIGHT write or say.

He hasn't repealed them. And when asked then if pipelines could be put in even if a province didn't want them, he acted shocked. He said absolutely not. Nothing will be done unless the provinces and indigenous people agree. You believe every press release a liberal sends out, don't you? Do you ever even apply some thinking power to it or do you just suck it down and sigh in envy of their greatness and wisdom? I think it's acceptable to kill babies, too... where it makes sense... That's nice. Carney has said the immigration number at 400k, with a rise each year thereafter. Are you forgetting he's set the number of temporary residents at 5% - which is about four times higher than it was under Harper, but never mind that. The numbers need to come down substantially to reach that, and they're not coming down yet. The 'lack of growth' is likely caused by some of them leaving as more immigrants are dropped off. The population needs to actually shrink to reach his 5% goal. And we're still getting close to 200k 'refugees' a year, as well. Good idea. But we also need to stop the flood of people at the border, either the US or international through flights. We need to ban anyone who came here from a safe third country from filing an asylum claim, as well as anyone who shows up without papers, because they destroyed them en route. We also need to change the system that evaluates refugee claims. As long as we're accepting 87% of claims, people from all over the world will continue to flock here claiming they're refugees. That is their plan that as people arrive, the temporary people will leave. I don't think it will work as well as they seem to believe, but we'll see. Historical levels? I'd like to know what 'historical levels' are because he's set the numbers at 1% of the population and that certainly has not been the case prior to Trudeau. Often when Immigration boosters use that phrase they're talking about the numbers from the early twentieth century, say, or just after WW2. And that number is far too high in this day and age. We do not screen anyone coming in except to ask if they have a criminal record. And we weren't even doing that for foreign students. Their names are checked against known terrorists, but that's it. There's no interview to assess the likelihood of their being successful at integrating, and no interview to assess their qualifications in the profession they allege they are in. If they happen to be a fundamentalist Muslim who thinks Jews and gays should be killed and women are whores if they show their legs, we just smile and wave them on in. I think all immigrants should be interviewed. I'm sure we can rack up sales for resources if the Liberals allow us to develop them. And I have doubts about that. But selling manufactured goods to places like China and Japan? I just don't see it. Trading with other industrial nations is a matter of efficient manufacturing unless you're speaking of natural resources. And our manufacturing is just not very efficient compared to the EU, Japan or China. Nor will it get much better as long as the government immediately steps in to prop up inefficient companies like Iriving and Bombardier.

That's just authoritarianism, something the Left seems given to in all things. But if you think he's going to use it for pipelines or oil and gas development, you're mistaken. He's been very careful to promise no such thing. His immigration crackdown? He's done no such thing. The cuts were made before he took office, and were temporary. He's given no indication he intends to keep them low, either. Immigration is still high and will continue to rise under his plans. Foreign workers continue to pour into the country. I have no doubt that when the temporary cut to foreign students expires they'll be rushing back, as well. And we still have no screening for any of these people coming in and no way to get rid of them if they just stay. Our refugee system remains an absolute joke, and the numbers just for refugees may well pass Harper's total immigration numbers this year. Yes, he's proposed some tinkering around the edges here, but not the direct action that's needed. He's not going to build up defence. He's going to play accounting games to pretend he's building up defense until the big orange man is gone. He'll be putting everything but the plumber needed to fix his kitchen sink under the defence umbrella. I doubt he'll be exploiting natural resources either. That's too CO2-intensive. And I don't even know what he means by building economic infrastructure. I suspect he means charging stations, and the energy infrastructure needed to power them and to power more EV cars. Again, Trudeau was authoritarian-minded, as well. And had contempt for anyone who disagreed with him. The NDP, being lefties, are even more authoritarian-minded. All our big companies are oligopolies. That's why we pay the highest rates in the world for everything from internet and cell phones to the costs of making investments and traveling by air or train. And the government subsidizes them and everyone else in business to one degree or another. It keeps away creative destruction and lets poorly run companies like Bombardier continue to plod along forever with government assistance ($40 billion last year). Irving is building the world's most expensive frigates at a cost roughly three times what the British are paying for the same basic ship. And they're doing it with equipment the taxpayer paid for. US workers are also a lot more productive. And those companies get to write off the cost of the healthcare insurance fees they pay so it still winds up coming from the taxpayer. And one of the reasons for that is it's so hard for a young, growing Canadian company, especially if it's innovative, to get funding here. Our oligopoly banks are notoriously reluctant, and there are few other sources of funding. Which is why they invite in American companies, who eventually take them over. It's also harder for smaller organizations to afford the administrative costs of keeping up with the web of regulations, recording and reporting required by our governments. Especially when they operate in small market economies that often just consist of the province they're in, due to the lack of free trade among provinces. 70% of our exports go to the US vs 5% to the EU. Even doubling our exports to the EU isn't going to make much of a difference. Two-thirds of our exports to Asia go to China, Japan, and Taiwan, and are mainly natural resources. I don't disagree, but this is not something the government can change anytime soon. Unfortunately, many other countries have tariffs and non-tariff barriers to prevent imports. China is a particularly bad actor in this.

Is this an effort at distraction from the point I made? Please show me where Harper sold anything to China. I wasn't aware he was a salesman. Are you saying every Canadian company of every kind that was sold to a foreign buyer was his responsibility? Does that go for Trudeau and Chretien too? And if we wanted to divert some oil from the pipelines going to the US because they were paying us lower prices for it, how long do you think it would take to fill that? It can only take a fraction of what we ship to the US, so it's not able to give us a choice of telling the Americans we're going to send our oil elsewhere if you don't want it or won't pay world prices.

Poilievre got a higher percentage of the vote this year than Chretien, Harper or Trudeau ever managed. If it weren't for Trump and Singh's identity politics party collapsing he'd have had a majority Carney said he would eliminate the carbon tax. And then replace it with... a carbon tax. But don't worry! It will be on business and industry, and OF COURSE that won't be passed along to the consumer (nudge-nudge, wink-wink). So those cheques they used to get to make up for the tax will be a thing of the past. LOL. Big win!
-
You can quote me on that. Poilievre got a higher percentage of votes than Chretien, Trudeau or Harper did in any election Every election until the fat orange scared them. How is it in anyone's interest to see the country getting poorer and poorer every year? How is it in our interests to flood the country with unskilled labourers from the third world? How is it in our interests to allow hostile foreign powers to do whatever they want and influence whomever they want here? Mostly due to Quebec for most of that time.

The Liberals have no intention of honoring this. Trudeau didn't honor our commitment for ten years and Carney can certainly bluff his way through the next three. He's already playing accounting games and will play more. He's said that doing 'infrastructure upgrades' to allow us to mine 'critical minerals' will count as defense spending, for example. What he's not doing is buying tanks, armored vehicles, missiles, artillery, etc.
-
You don't think the reason for that was that the requirements were set so that no one in Canada could have made any money on it? And then it will remain at capacity for how long? Ten more years? Twenty? While all the political and legal fights work their way through the system and all the native bands have been sufficiently bribed?

Poll shows 50% of young Canadians (18-34) favour socialism. But cheer up, it drops to 'only' 43% among 35-54 year olds! Of course, the schools are still churning out indoctrinated little social justice fanatics, and we continue to bring in millions of people from societies that have no real tradition of democracy, so as the old farts disappear this love of socialism will continue to grow. https://www.fraserinstitute.org/studies/perspectives-capitalism-and-socialism-polling-results-canada-united-states-australia-and

Yes. Brainless. You demonstrate that here every day. And the Conservatives don't need to convince brainless people to vote for them. They already have enough supporters to win a majority if the NDP can get their act together and stop acting like the party of identity politics, and if fat Donald goes away or dies or something so they're not pissing themselves in terror that he'll take over. Then maybe the brainless will go back to supporting the 'people's party' like they used to.
-
That includes the natives. If we hadn't colonized the place, it would either be like Africa today or, if completely left to its own devices, be pretty much like it was hundreds of years ago, with nomadic bands of hunter/gatherers roaming the land on foot and in canoes, starving through the winters, and barely surviving into their thirties.
-
The Liberals and the mainstream media they pay for convinced too many people that Poilevre would cave into whatever the fat Orange man wanted - kinda like Carney has been doing since he took office - and that the mighty Mr. Carney, who slouches through the room like an unhappy teenager, would stand tall. Only he never did. Anyway, it didn't convince anyone with brains. But it convinced the lefties so they all abandoned the NDP and flocked to vote for a corporate banker thinking he was going to 'protect' them.

You think Poilievre wouldn't have been able to suck up as brazenly as Carney nor surrender instantly every time he was challenged? Probably right. -

Voters were stampeded to the protection of Mr. Economy who was going to be 'elbows up' and put that nasty orange man in his place! And he did, standing in front of Carney with his dick out while Carney drops to his knees. Not the kind of thing I suspect most Canadians had expected. -
The far right? What even is the far right to people like you? Anyone who disagrees with you? Is there, in your mind, even such a thing as centreists? Or even conservatives? Or is everything not you FAR RIGHT because you feel that's the kind of pejorative that's needed for whoever doesn't agree with your social and political opinions?

So what? Carney could have cancelled or postponed it, and should have. God forbid we have someone in office who makes the right decisions. -

The best strategy was not to implement it in the first place. Poilievre wouldn't have. It was a dumb move that brought a predictably harsh response.
