Too many foreigners make the majority of people uncomfortable. They start not feeling at home anymore.

The cowboy does have a point. A very liberal, very pro-immigration friend had to go to the Emergency room last week - twice. Two different hospitals. They said almost everyone there in the waiting rooms were foreigners, speaking English, when they spoke English, with heavy accents. They weren't very happy about it but seemed confused about that.

Personally, I feel what a student does when not in school is none of the school's business. All that matters is what he/she does in school. Granted, the protest was protesting a school policy. But hey, that's freedom of speech. It's a government institution and people ought to be able to protest its policies. The trans issue is stupidly closed to discussion. A parent tried to bring up questions about trans policy at another schoolboard in Ontario and the trustees shut the meeting down and called the police to remove them because they said such questions don't allow for a 'safe' environment. That's complete bullshit.

China's interference in Canadian elections
I am Groot replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The threat is growing worse as the number of Chinese in Canada increases. And I say Chinese. Not Chinese-Canadians. Although the increase in Chinese-Canadians also makes us more vulnerable to interference by China. But it seems growing numbers of Chinese immigrants are not bothering to obtain citizenship, and are not swearing allegiance to Canada. Chinese immigrants must now choose one passport or the other when they arrive in Canada. If they can’t have both, it appears most are deciding to remain Chinese citizens even after they settle permanently in this country. Now, on the one hand, they can't legally vote in elections. On the other hand, they can certainly vote in nomination meetings. They can also be used by China for intelligence and influence operations against others. They can also legally contribute money to election campaigns and volunteer to work for a candidate. Especially if ordered to by China (and reimbursed by them). https://c2cjournal.ca/2023/03/are-immigrants-falling-out-of-love-with-canada-and-is-it-because-canadians-feel-the-same/ -
Given all they're ever told from the 'elites' in media, arts, academia, and politics is what a shitty country Canada is, that it's practically the most racist nation in history and drenched in the blood of genocide, which it continues to practice to this day, and that every single person involved in its creation and growth was irredeemably evil on a par with Adolph Hitler it's hardly a surprise young people are feeling rather less happy about living here. I'm pretty sure schools and universities will soon require all students to start the day by bowing their heads in shame and grief at being Canadians.

Should Bill Maher and the late George Carlin?

They're not politicians. They're comedians. And I doubt reaching seniors is high on their priority list. -
Should Bill Maher and the late George Carlin?
I am Groot replied to Eli45's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Maher is a traditional liberal. His trashing the idiocy of the Left just shows he's honest and not a hypocrite. He certainly spent enough time trashing Trump and other Republicans. I'm sure you don't object to that. -
So neither of your cites gives any example of anything he did aside from organizing a small, peaceful rally off-school premises during his lunch hour. Nor was he suspended several times according to the cite. Prior to his first suspension issued on November 23, Alexander had never faced any form of disciplinary action while attending St. Joseph’s or any other school. So he was suspended 20 days because of the protest, though I'm not sure how the school justified that since it wasn't on school property. Then just before he was supposed to return he was served an exclusion order. So far all you've got is he organized a peaceful protest off campus and he said in a class discussion that there were only two genders. And honestly, if you can't understand the difference between thirty people walking up and down a median holding signs and a thousand people breaking in doors and windows and attacking police there really is no hope for you.

The mindset of the extreme Left that tends to promote and support Socialism is not the mindset of people willing to tolerate argument or opposition. That's why even socialists who get elected and start out more relaxed, like Venezuela or Nicaragua, slip into authoritarianism. We can even see this in Canada, where anywhere the Left controls has rigid controls on what people may say and think and do. Look at the NDP. You aren't allowed to have any views which run counter to the leaders. Not so in the Conservative party.

Repeated studies have shown that tall people get promoted more. So do handsome/beautiful people. Fat, ugly, short people have it harder. This kind of discrimination is routine. Right from kindergarten. The less attractive you are, the less people want to see you and be around you. And by the way, if it's okay for straight white men to not want sex with men is it okay for lesbians to not want sex with men? Or are they "terfs" because they don't want to have sex with 'women' with male anatomy? The problem is YOU don't recognize any difference between sex and gender. As far as YOU and other trans activists and supporters are concerned the words are identical. You make no allowance for the fact that women-only spaces, sports, etc. are women-only because they're FEMALE only, in recognition of anatomical and biological differences. Trans supporters are perfectly fine with the idea young girls need to change in front of naked 'women' with male bodies and erections, who stare at them. That Marxists want to destroy western society is not exactly a bizarre theory. Nor is it the imagination of 'far right media' that so many on the Left show contempt for Western cultural values and beliefs and want to replace them, along with the philosophy and traditions which came down through the centuries.

If Quebecers know (and care) about political corruption how come almost all the major political corruption in the last fifty years has emerged from Quebec? -
There is no legal path to find that Taiwan belongs to anyone but the Taiwanese. It belonged to the Japanese and then was taken by the Americans as war spoils after WW2. That Chiang Kai-Shek ran to it to hide from the Communists is irrelevant.

Supreme Court imposes cruelty on families

It is not possible to modify the Charter except by getting appointed to the Supreme Court, where you can substitute your own beliefs for whatever is written. Any opening of the Charter would lead to a muti year nightmarish fight with and between various provinces, especially Quebec, not to mention the natives. No politician is ever going to modify the Charter. -
China's interference in Canadian elections

What is China looking for from Canada? Guy Saint-Jacques, the Canadian ambassador before McCallum, recalls attending a 2016 dinner in Montreal for a visiting Li Keqiang, until recently the Chinese premier. The Mandarin-speaking Saint-Jacques and his wife were among three Caucasians in a crowd of over 600 Chinese-Canadians. “The message of Li Kequing was ‘Don’t forget the motherland — bring back technology, bring back investment,’” he said. “It was like he was talking to Chinese nationals. China doesn’t care about foreign citizenship.” Xi Jinping's government has stressed this more and more often in the last half dozen years. No matter where you live or what papers you own you are CHINESE and owe loyalty to China. China is your heritage and you must always be guided by what will be best for China. They are constantly seeking to influence overseas Chinese to remember their race. Which is something that would normally appal liberals as it is reminiscent of Nazism. But liberals are ignoring it here. https://ottawacitizen.com/news/canada/what-does-china-want-from-canada/wcm/74057289-cee8-4b54-9554-e1fec44770d6 -
That is exactly why immigration keeps increasing. Along with the belief that immigrants will vote Liberal, of course. That's a big part of Trudeau's enthusiasm for higher immigration. Plus his shallow, globalist nature and complete lack of connection or concern for English Canada's heritage and values. Canadians born and raised here, at least prior to the last ten or twenty years, were imbued with the philosophy and beliefs of western cultural values, including a bedrock belief in justice and in democracy and freedom. Newcomers from outside the West, which is the great majority, have no such cultural background, no such reflexive understanding of the need to compromise and respect others' beliefs. Expecting them to have the same respect for what Canadians do is illogical. And as we bring them in so fast they're not having an opportunity to integrate, nor are their kids. The reason the idea of testing and judging potential immigrants according to their beliefs and how they match up with ours so outraged the Left, including the entire mainstream media, was that it was based on the unspoken presumption that our values were generally better. Or that we had a right to want people whose values were like ours. That would only seem reasonable to an ordinary Canadian, but not to the 'elites' in charge of the media, arts, and academia. They regard any assumption we are better than Afghanistan, never mind India or China as racist and xenophobic. Our healthcare has been getting lousy for decades. It's no longer getting there. It's there. And yes, Citizenship is cheap when we process applications with less care and concern than applications for drivers licences, and offer up a 20 minute multiple choice/true or false test to get a passport, then let people check a box online rather than even show up and swear an oath of loyalty.

The Republicans of yesterday are not even remotely like the Republicans of today. I cannot find the words to adequately express my contempt for the woke progressives and their constant war on western cultural values and the institutions, traditions, and heritage of our countries. And even so, I feel disgusted with Republicans. They are avaricious whores with no concern but their own personal enrichment. They are more than willing, even eager to divide their country to exploit those divisions for votes, and to sell their votes to the highest bidder. Hypocrites, liars and phoneys, the lot of them, with a strong sprinkling of Christian Taliban types.

I would bet every dollar I own that Trump knows nothing whatsoever about Russian culture and cares less. Like a lot of things, Trump was simply disinterested in whatever happened that didn't personally affect him. If Putin wanted to take over Ukraine or Georgia or the Baltics he simply didn't care. He has no golf clubs there anyway. According to his national security advisor Putin was waiting for Trump to take the US out of NATO before acting. Partially correct. Putin is a product of the cold war who has said the biggest tragedy of the 20th century was the breakup of the Soviet Union. He has made it his life's work to rebuild the Soviet Union. He's simply been doing it largely by bribery and threats. He owned the previous Ukrainian president and hoped to use him as he is using the president of Belarus to draw Ukraine back into the fold. When that failed he got angry, spiteful and impatient. But it is not in anyone's interest to let him rebuild the Soviet Union. Imports from China INCREASED under Trump. Money was the only thing Trump seemed to have any interest in, and did not challenge China's expansionary military and territorial ambitions. Trudeau, like a lot of shallow people, became enamored of China's long history and culture. But the blame is on the voters for putting him in power and keeping him there. I suspect there are a sizeable number of urban Canadians who view the thought of China completely controlling Canada as a colony with considerably less alarm than they do the thought of Pierre Poilevre, or any Conservative being in charge in Ottawa.

We are bringing in half a million immigrants a year now. None are interviewed about why they want to come here. None are screened for attitudes, including loyalty for their homeland or interest in adapting to and integrating into Canadian society. A significant number make it fairly clear that they have no intention of staying here. They'll get citizenship, make money, have their kids educated, and then use it and their pension to go back 'home' and live nicely, returning here only if they need healthcare. That so many Chinese immigrants here are so easily influenced by China and will change their votes based on what China tells them or what they believe a party's attitude towards China is demonstrating their lack of loyalty. But they're not alone in this. All parties are aware that the way to appeal to immigrant groups lies in tailoring policies to benefit their homelands and/or increasing immigration from that homeland. The Liberals refusing to put the Tamil Tigers on a terrorism list because that would cost them votes among Tamil-Canadians, or Trudeau cozying up to Sikh terrorists and separatists or putting more immigration offices in China, the Liberals have been the most enthusiastic about tailoring policies to immigrant groups. But it's not like Conservatives or the NDP have refused to play that game. Before he was booted from the leadership race Patrick Brown focused entirely on recruiting immigrants to join the party to vote for him by promising them specific policies to benefit their homelands, including removing the Tamil Tigers from our list of terrorist groups and opening an immigration office in Nepal. And Pierre Poilivre, despite what his base might like, has expressed nothing but enthusiasm for ever-increasing immigration numbers. So I expect we'll get similar efforts from them next election. Canadian politicians, faced with the choice of what is good for Canada vs what is politically expedient for their parties in the short term, invariably choose the latter.
