Couldn't agree more. That's my fear going forward because their message had no chance of resonating in the absence of radical progressive cheerleaders with a temporary political advantage. Put another way, I'd say "fear the see-saw"... weaponize the law with ideological malice and expect to see a direct line equal and opposite reaction at some later date. Throw in taunts, name calling and obnoxious behaviour on the part of "winners" (ya hear me Flybaby?), and you have a recipe for retaliation with a level of polarized malice that could never have happened without it. Bad idea and much to be avoided IMO. What used to be "over there" is now coming "over here," What you previously had to dress in blue to see is now visible out your window. That could only happen with the direct approval of people who cherish the notion of living in a "post national state with no core values." Like a reformed smoker pulling an oxygen cart, regrets will only start once the damage is done.... not only will it be too late at that point, it will be someone else's fault. PNR isn't a theory or a matter of opinion, it's a function of time, speed, distance and fuel consumption.... hard realities that remain unmoved by caustic and ill informed comments from the likes of Roboturd and Eyehole.

Why Are We Doing This U.S. Vs. Canada Thing?
Venandi replied to Zeitgeist's topic in Canada / United States Relations
All that and a bag of cheezies eh? I bet you think coin operations refer to the vending machine you got them from... as opposed to how you'll be spending your summer vacations. Just wipe your greasy orange fingers on your face, that way you'll be easy to find and you'll look just like the guy who sent ya.- 223 replies

Sure Herb, that must be it.... Try this, get yourself a T-shirt that says "My name is Herb and I'm a Jew." Then, go for a walk in downtown Toronto and see who accosts you. What is their political persuasion and/or ethnicity? As far as the T-shirt goes, the purpose of that "Jew" designation is twofold: one, to test the limits of the freedom of expression you see as solidly protected (and I don't) and two; to provide a catalyst for reaction and see who reacts. The "Herb" reference is simply to ensure that those of us who would otherwise be inclined to intervene reach for a cellphone instead. Here's an additional snippet you should find compelling but won't, the absolute safest place for you to wear that new shirt is at a sanctioned IPSC competition. Here's a view of you and a few others from my window:

A random observation wrt the hatred directed at jews: Media reporting of some of the assaults is an interesting study if you take the time or have the inclination to look into individual attacks on Jews. Here's the CBC report of one in Montreal: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/montreal-police-investigating-attack-father-1.7605147 For whatever reason, It didn't include an available video though. Even though it's limited and inconclusive it still reeks of deliberate targeting when you see the presence of children and the kippah getting tossed at the end. I took a passing interest in this particular event because of the kids and found the video on (Gasp cover your ears Roboturd) Rebel News... Here it is Zoom in on the attacker, is that the reason it was omitted? Maybe just me but another point of interest is that in all the (albeit random) cases I've looked into I see that the attackers are not "fighters" by any reasonable definition of the word and there seems to be no shortage of people standing about with cameras filming the action. There was a time when immediate intervention in such things would have been far more likely than reaching for a cell phone. In fact, were you to stand back and simply video the action you would have been viewed as a loathsome creature. That's clearly no longer the case and we're now (collectively) OK with that it seems. I think we've lost a piece of ourselves in the bargain though. If the statistics I hear are close to true, it seems that well under 1% of the population now have the skills (at a basic level) or inclination to intervene in cases of obvious need. The presence of children here is what adds a "sense of urgency" IMO. Not sure what to make of that but somehow I feel disturbed by it. It also explains (at least to me) why military and police recruiting / retention is so challenging now. The people inclined to throw themselves into such things have always made up the recruiting demographic that used to run at about 5%. Small number I know but we're losing ground if the new number is truly under 1%. Artificially expanding the traditional demographic parameters through targeted / DEI hiring will not fix the problem, it will make it worse. Perversely (to some) getting into the stream needs to be significantly more difficult, more selective... and yes, more elitist in terms of competency. Running fat farms prior to basic training may be inclusive but it doesn't seem to be "working out" too well and I'm inclined to say "I told ya so." I'm guessing most people who watch the video (or similar ones) have a range of emotions: disgust maybe, concern, anger perhaps, a sense of how did we get here, etc. BUT, how many get that burning head to toe adrenaline rush that smoulders for the rest of the day and propels their pushup count to new levels. Personally, this will have me smouldering for days... not good during a fire ban eh?

In general and in principle I agree with you... can't quite get there as a matter of practicality though and the reason is people like Flyerfool and Roboturd. I live in an area where these critters "recreate," I'm also the guy who picks up the beer cans these MFs leave strewn around behind them. As you've seen on this very forum, there is no talking to them, polite conversation is impossible, common sense elusive... they spout slogans in person and memes on the internet. They're non compliant, uncooperative and pretend to "know their rights." You don't have to live in a (semi) isolated area and you don't have to be a cop to experience them either, a single week as a security guard in the hospital or simply doing access control is all you need. So, what do think of the idea that I want some protection under the law too? As a PS, I've always felt the same way about the intrusion of pervasive video surveillance, even so, they've forced me into that against my will too. I now have dash cams in every vehicle and a small fortune worth of trail cams... they're not for hunting or trapping either. Here's another "aside" that concerns me and (I think) it tends to support your position. The restrictions themselves and the media blitz in support of them may serve as motivation for bad actors. Some fool with matches may want to see the effect of his buffoonery on the evening news, others might see arson as a protest against the very rules designed to keep their dumb a$$es out of the bush and climate warriors might set the world ablaze to show the effects of ignoring their cause. Passive aggressives are the type to toss butts out the window when no one is there to see them. It seems to me that some of them are dedicated (maybe addicted is a better word) to their own buffoonery and I'll cite cut and paste memes and repetitive BS (designed to incite a response) as a symptom of the delusional thinking I now worry about.

With the caveat of "in my opinion" here's how I see it. Privately owned land remains unaffected but it keeps the know it all Herbs, Flyers and Roboturds off the trails and out of the bush. In their world fires are always caused by global warming, nothing to do with fuel loading, errant forestry practices (that we now have to live with) or their own careless buffoonery. I see it all the time, it's the same folks who dump their damn garbage and unwanted pets on my road and trespass to liberate (I call it steal) a "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree every winter. These critters won't walk an hour to burn one of your out buildings down but they'll cut your fence and ride in on ATVs to do it. Ya pretty jaded eh? It's based on experience though. This sort of ban has happened before during dry conditions and I breathe a sigh of relief on the odd occasion it kicks in.... last one was 2023 if memory serves. Certainly, there are sensible people who get caught up in this and that's unfortunate. And of course, the cov1diots will raise the spectre of Covid restrictions and say... "ahhhh, changed your mind eh?" Nope... the lunacy of arresting a guy in a canoe in the middle of a lake for not wearing a mask is as far removed from this as any reasonable person can get. My one fear now is the publicity this has garnered, there's always some fool with a book of matches wanting to see his handiwork on TV. Just last night while driving home from a class (it was dark), I saw the tracer fire as someone two cars ahead tossed a lit cigarette out the window. As luck would have it there was no license plate... probably newly acquired with a temporary registration.

Guess that's one way to look at it. Another is that in addition to being a political entity, Hamas is also an ideology. That's why Egypt (and others for that matter) are unbending in refusing them entry, they would transform the eastern Sina into a war zone. Hamas needs to be crushed, there is simply no peace to be had with them as a governing entity. Defeating Hamas the ideology won't even start to start until that happens and it will take much longer to achieve. Actually, I think the word "ideology" comes up weak... it's more of an all consuming religion. I've previously used the analogy of a murderous ex-husband just out of jail for attempted murder who is bent on success next time. Figure out how to negotiate with him and apply that technique to the situation with Hamas.... there's a Nobel Peace Prize with your name on it if you can. It's more valid as an analogy than you might think and it gets little in the way of thoughtful consideration... the unfortunate ex-wife takes on the role of Israel by default. Think of yourself as her new fiancé.... If you don't have a solution for her you don't have a solution for this either.

Always good to get out and see the world, it's pretty chaotic. UN work is an exercise in frustration at every turn. Factual or not I can't say, haven't been there for a while... but based on what I've seen of the world it rings true and I say that only because reading it pissed me off to the point of cold adrenaline rush; good for the evening pushup count but little else. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/the-inside-story-of-how-gaza-aid-is-diverted-from-the-people-who-need-it-most?itm_source=index

Do graduates of "Roboturd's School of Snappy Comebacks and Quick Retorts" ever come up with original material? If you can't take the time to do this right I'll leave your dumb a$$ to the tender mercies of the Fox.... here's your final down vote and a limerick to lick: There was an exflyer named “Tool;” An internet troll and fool; He said I admit I’m a bit of a shi%: I can only catch fish in a pool.
-
You sure do fish boy, you have him right where he wants you. Look, even the author of a diatribe can work that down vote thingy.... Was there too many words for ya? Try licking a limerick then: There once was a troll with a pole: Who fished on the ice through a hole: He sat on box and got kicked by a fox; And he followed his pole down the hole.
-
That's because you're the one being trolled, it's actually you taking the bait... and despite being played like a fiddle you seem to think you're winning some sort of competition. You know the Fox is deliberately toying with you right? He probably doesn't even like fish, it's just for sport. As it stands now, he can make you cut and paste the same nonsense over and over (at will) whilst thinking you control the action.... sort of like that fish who keeps bitting the same lure repeatedly. Some fishermen will drop the anchor out of curiosity and like them, he just wants to see how many times he can hook you. *** Not to worry Fox, you don't even need to change lures for this one. Go fishing with bagpipes and he'll jump into the boat***

- Hamas is delighted by this and it plays well domestically with much of the liberal base... not so well internationally though IMO. - Egypt will not accept Palestinians, they would immediately turn the eastern Sinai into a launch pad for strikes into Israel inviting retaliatory air strikes into Egyptian territory. They have enough problems with the Muslim Brotherhood.
-
HAMAS loves it... Right you are, Donnie and the rest of the world not so much. How long have people been playing guitars in shelters? I'm a harmonica guy but there always seems to be a singer in addition to the guitar player. I've met some pretty talented people under concrete umbrellas.,,, must have missed ya.

Aviation was like that too, remember the quote "Covid isn't easily spread on aircraft?" We still laugh about that on occasion. I've done several deployments with the navy (can't keep a job) so the whole "cruise ship containment" concept was humorous too, in reality, if someone sneezes in the heads the port and starboard lookouts get a cold. The first night out you can't sleep because of the ventilator noise, the first night back you can't sleep because it's so damn quiet. Have you ever been to sea Herb?
