For good or ill I blame voters for the current state of the nation and it never ceases to amaze me that they want more of what they already have. I can't help but wonder if it truly is a "choice" or simply a function of laziness, apathy, and a thought process that assumes "I will never come to regret todays bad decisions." Like the teenage girl you can't dissuade from quitting school and moving in with her 28 year old boyfriend, only pain (and lots of it) will reveal todays bad choices to the future self of those who made them. Sleep walking polarized zealots of all stripes (IMO) fail to give a single thought to what comes next as a result of making politically motivated (and self serving) choices today. And the difference between today and yesterday is that the bad choices being made now will take decades to remedy. There is no thought of unintended consequences or any consideration of the possibility that "I might not like this when it applies to me tomorrow." Speaking personally, turning a blind eye to serious crime whilst maliciously prosecuting minor offences wasn't something I expected to see our police services participating in, our government condoning, or our voters supporting. As I typed this I got to thinking which of those three things was the worst and realized that I'm not even sure... since the end result that's produced can't exist in the absence of a single element, perhaps they are of equal weight. During the covid days and the trucker protest I came to wonder if individual police officers ever read the very first page of their issued note books.... IMO this is worth watching, as you do think about Herb, Robo, Flybaby etc getting to decide where the line between disliking something and detesting it lies. In turn, the named parties should take a moment and reflect on how their answer will be used against them once they gleefully open a door that should always have remained closed.

If I did the math right (always a challenge for me) the budget works out to just under $18,000 for each native holding status in Canada. In addition to whatever other benefits they may be entitled to under law (CPP, OAS etc), why not just give them the money, shutdown the department and let them govern themselves however they see fit. Individual reserves could be empowered to tax their own residents based on the previous year's residency and have the appropriate amount deducted from the yearly (individual) payment and submitted directly to the band.

Over it... I say go ahead and do it. I and others are simply pointing out potential unintended consequences for your enlightened consideration in an effort to avoid future "WTF did you think was going to happen? questions. In that vein, BC's safe supply thingy comes instantly to mind as an example... incredibly, some people were actually surprised by the unintended consequences of it. If you want more of that too then please proceed at flank speed with my blessings. I always enjoyed this guy's "Bob On The FOB" thing... seems like he had one for every occasion... this Bob's for you:

Even simple names with multiple locations in a single jurisdiction can be problematic... I had one such experience with a "Maple Street" back in the day when I was driving ambulances. I hadn't expected the amount of flippant (FU, get over it) rhetoric though. If you like the idea of this and want more of it I absolutely think you should have it... my concern here was never for myself and it was certainly never about racism or whatever other label weak minded fools who entirely miss the point delight in attributing it to. No whimpering about response times though OK? All too often (and IMO of course) it's folks just like you that don't know where the hell they are on a 911 call... or do you think that doesn't happen? If you want more of that be assured I want you to have it. Go get em...

I think it was too, none of the construction bribe details ever made sense to me...Libya is the land of bribes and that's just the nature of the place. There were two SNC security operators in country during OUP Libya while the Canadian Forces were engaged in combat operations and the Gaddafi family were under UN mandated travel restrictions. Here's a story from 2012 that scrapes the surface of what I mean, this got very little traction back then and hasn't been talked about since as far as I know. https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/gary-peters-snc-lavalin Given OUP operations and the travel restrictions, I think there's lots more to this story than meets the eye and SNC is up to their eyeballs in it... the government knows it (and always knew it) too. All of the machinations we've seen were a function of those illegal (borderline treasonous) activities... not bribes to build parking lots. All IMO of course.

That's exactly what people need to experience in greater measure IMO. I foolishly thought the current state of affairs was bad enough... it clearly isn't and more pain is required. The downside here is that we've charged into areas that will take decades to undo and we haven't even started the undo process yet. Based in part on opinions here on the forum, I now see no antidote but prolonged pain that rises to the level of agony. It needs to get much worse and the sooner we get started the sooner we'll get through it...

Ya, admittedly it's a bit sad but I can't help but think it's past time to send a message and I'm now willing to hold my nose and swallow the damage liberals will inflict on the masses. In the longterm, I can only hope it eventually resonates. In the same vein, I now think the only answer to trans athletes in women's sports is for young ladies to walk off the field and refuse to participate. It's unfortunate to be sure and not a conclusion I came to lightly.

Thanks, I have a passing acquaintance with the concepts here. That said, I can't help but wonder if you know (without looking it up) the difference between an assault rifle, a battle rifle and an assault style rifle. I'll even settle for how many militaries (world wide) you believe issue AR-15s with 5 round magazines to their soldiers. I based that question on your arrogant, self serving and ill informed question above. The answer as you probably already guessed is no. In fact, on the rare occasion that I do hunt them (for pest control purposes BTW as I happen to like bunnies), I use a recurve bow. Certainly wouldn't want you to think I need one of those "assault style compound bows" with the range pins and peep sights on it. Here's another question for you, what was the last year a rabbit could legally be killed with a "machine gun" in Canada?

You may be on to something there. The Conservative government in NS has offered less than nothing in terms of resisting the gun grab trial in CB. By all accounts, municipal police forces are assisting the effort and our MLA is remarkably unrepentant about all aspects of the parties submissive position. Funny enough, even a weak sister effort would have been appreciated. I previously considered single issue voting to be a mistake and I do try not to equate provincial conservatives with their federal counterparts, but (BUT)... I've now reached the saturation point and will be joining that esteemed cadre of single issue voters in the next election and I'll drag as many folks as I can along with me. It's PPC only now and I'll happily split the conservative vote until the message resonates. In the mean time, the country can groan under the liberals (with my blessings) until it screams Uncle, passes PNR and/or Coriolis Effect tightens the swirl of water going down the drain to a raging torrent. Well deserved IMO, I've concluded that experience is the only teacher that will resonate here. Besides, I'm kind of curious to see how much is enough for the average person, or in this case, how much is too much.

Ya, different critters but I'd argue that all three require "showing up." And that isn't our strong suit IMO. Remember the Turbot... it's a flat fish most people had never even heard of before they heard of it for the first time. I thought we might collectively learn a few lessons from that because making a show of defending that little fish taxed our maritime resources pretty heavily... and that was at a time when there was arguably more resources to tax. Here's another thought, maybe the idea of community defence should include a coastal flotilla of expendable canoes with small cannons in the bow to replace the shore bombardment (NGS) capability that the Herbs of the world opined we didn't need in a modern world. Their arguments against it included the idea that things like TASMO (as a for instance) made more sense. The same Herbs now argue against the need for modern fighters without remembering what they said about NGS back then or even considering that (among other things), fighters protect airspace and airspace is what the rest of your Air Force operates in. It doesn't take much in the way of imagination to compile an updated list of "what did you think was going to happen" questions to be placed in an envelope marked "open in 20 years." Maybe it's the canaries of today that become the sage prophets of tomorrow... the "we don't need heavy lift helicopters" argument is actually my favourite to date, those arguments aged pretty poorly in Afghanistan. It's a bit like listening to the Cov1diots of today who insist that they're "following the science" but still can't (or won't) discuss that science at a high school biology level.
-
Granted that was a bit sarcastic... but it's still not that far removed from reality when you consider the state of our (gasp) carrier battle groups. Here's the thing IMO, after 32 years and 10 foreign deployments you and yours don't trust me to even own a semi-automatic rifle, so I'm wondering... since you can't (or won't) train, equip and field a viable professional military, how do you plan to train and equip a viable (community based) force with enough teeth to bite a soft boiled egg? If Army Guy and I can't make the cut, what would your equity based recruiting standard look like?
-
Cool, and you could ship them in the same box as those .22 calibre semi-automatic assault style rifles" they so desperately need. Be sure to include the 5 round magazines. I think sending Frozen was a better idea.... but as always, I'm rooting for ya.

POOF... on to the next absurdity without the need to dwell on the last one eh? I'm not going to unpack all of that for you, you're clearly more interested in argument and agenda than you are theology and ministry. Figure it out for yourself... or don't, either way it's never been easier to do. No need for long hours in the library or the a$$ pain of learning Greek, everything you need is condensed and available online now. What amazes me is that false doctrines seem to multiply faster in the presence of easy information access than they did in its absence. I didn't expect that... clearly not cynical enough eh? -

Just stop FFS... you're so profoundly ignorant it's breathtaking and it sounds like you're a student of Roboturd. "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." This particular verse actually emphasizes the contrast between those who follow the teachings of Jesus and those who reject it and choose to align themselves with deceit and violence. Jesus was actually confronting the Pharisees here over their disbelief and hypocrisy. Instead of twisting it into something it clearly isn't maybe you should hoist it aboard and meditate on its significance. -

As a matter of fact I know they do... Do you disbelieve that which you pretend to believe in other threads or do you simply exclude Israel from consideration? You can't have it both ways: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12:3 For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly ruined.” – Isaiah 60:12 “The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel.” – Psalm 147:2 -
Did Nazis give Jews a voice in the political process? Did Nazis drop leaflets warning Jews to leave specific areas for their own protection? Did they provide aid conveys and medical supplies? Did they transmit radio broadcasts telegraphing where and when attacks would take place and recommend specific safe zones? Did they take great pains to limit collateral damage and casualties? Are their efforts now seen as model for protecting civilians during high density operations against an entrenched enemy who used human shields as a matter of course? You need to get out more...
