A BoC governor can basically set interest rates and give the government advice. The hard political decisions have to be made by the finance minister and PM. The BoC can't do much if a government ignores its advice would deserve some of the credit (or blame) if it does. As this isn't public information, we will never really know which.

tradewar England Agrees To New Trade Deal
Aristides replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Not the UK but. https://www.reuters.com/world/japan/japan-says-no-plan-threaten-treasuries-sale-us-trade-talks-2025-05-04/ We have no plans to sell US T Bills but if we did we could really screw you. Implied threat while denying the threat. Japanese diplomacy. -
Instead of blaming others, Conservatives should be asking themselves why they lost an election they should have won easily. Instead of continually whining, why don't you move to the country you admire so much, or won't they have you. As far as PP's own riding goes, flooding the ballot was bullshit. That stuff can go both ways and Elections Canada needs to take steps to ensure it can't happen again. To anyone.

I don't know that and neither do you. The optics would be really bad for someone who still has aspirations for the big job. I'm not judging his integrity, just saying it is also an astute political move. If Carney is as good as his word about expediting a bye election, it won't be long before he is back in the house. We have seen a side of PP since the election was lost that we hadn't seen before. If he had shown it before, perhaps the conservatives wouldn't have lost. If he keeps it up, I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually does become PM.

You want your country to fail and break up. At least American MAGATS don't want that for theirs. Pathetic.
-
Trudeau had charisma. Trump has charisma. F*ck charisma, give me boring and competent.
-
Well Trump took an oath to uphold the Constitution. My guess is Carney will be a lot more loyal to Canada than Trump has been to the Constitution. But we'll have to wait and see, like we do with any new leader. You want him to fail. I don't because I don't give a crap what party a leader is from as long as they do a good job.

He was born in Ft Smith and grew up in Edmonton. There is no requirement for a Prime Minister to born in Canada. Several have not. Our first two were born in Scotland. As for the rest. So what. My grandkids have two passports because one of their grand fathers was Swiss. Bid deal. People with EU passports have the freedom to live and work where they please in the EU but that doesn't mean they aren't loyal to their own countries or have national pride. All Canadian parliamentarians are required to take an oath of office. Ask all the questions you can make up but don't make up answers you want.

They have to hang their hat on something. Was he disloyal to the countries he worked for before? No. Was he disloyal to the companies he worked for before? No. Therefore he must be disloyal.🙄

Canadian MAGATS are a pathetic bunch. Much worse than the Americans because they would sell out their country to the love of someone as bad as Trump.
-
FFS, Trump lies every time he opens his mouth. He lies his ass off about your own country and you cheer, You're pathetic.

Leo is at least as progressive as Francis and has been critical of Trump and Vance in the past. -

He was offered plum jobs in other countries including governor of the Bank of England. So what? I worked offshore for several years and paid taxes in another country, should that lose me my Canadian citizenship or make me less of a Canadian? His job as a company board member was to look after share holders. Now the shareholders are the people of Canada. You should hope he does just as well for his country. At least he won't be using his position to enrich his businesses like your hero down south. What's laughable is a Trumpster like you getting all sweaty about lying.

Cheese: Why no choice? So expensive!
Aristides replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
And the other 50% is produced elsewhere, the Fraser Valley is covered with dairy farms. The principle behind supply management is to allow farmers to make a living without government subsidies. Its biggest problem has been the cost of quota making it difficult and expensive to get into the business or expand. Yes, milk comes from female cows who have given birth, just like humans. -
Who's cavalry. Alberta will be responsible for providing its own military. We killed 3/4's of them with diseases like smallpox and the measles.
