If you hoard the vaccines produced in your country, you can easily build up a surplus, especially since 30% of the population declare they won't accept the vaccine! 

Problem: these vaccines will be next to useless as long as big pharma capitalists set the agenda that vaccination should be about profits and not protecting people all over the world and attempting to eradicate the disease. 

In the end, selfishness is self-defeating once again.

My problem isn't so much with rightwingers as people, it's the defensiveness they've built around their pet beliefs and refusal to examine the things they believe in and why they believe them.

For the record, I see the same thing in a lot of liberals, who according to the sociologist who wrote the big book on authoritarianism about 20 years ago- Robert Altemeyer, conservatism is supposed to become the favored ideology of closed-minded people who feel a need to protect their favorite beliefs. While liberals are supposed to be open-minded and more prone to examine and test their beliefs with real world evidence. And I sure as hell am not seeing much of that anymore! Hence the ideological shelling from one side on the other, looks like it's a permanent thing that will go on without end!

No matter who runs the shop down there, the US Government is a giant evil hog that is hoarding vaccines produced by US-based big pharma corps they subsidize. 

So why didn't Canada maintain its high standards of vaccine development and production, instead of selling everything off with the rest of what we lost through NAFTA? 

Maybe we should get together with Cuba, and see how they are able to develop vaccines for every sort of illness including some types of cancer and Covid-19. 

Let the Pfizer and Moderna monsters squawk about losing profit opportunities!

Now, if you busy rightwingers can't figure out why more and more people are recoiling in disgust at your opinions and thoughts on just about everything, it's because all aspects of rightwing ideology have enjoyed so much success promoting their beliefs and ambitions here and all over the world for the past 40 years!

And now that libertarian/conservative 'solutions' have demonstrated they have NO solutions to deal with the greatest threats to our survival as a species: ever worsening climate change; instant extinction by thousands of nuclear missiles; and the still unknown total impacts of deadly contagious diseases that will become endemic is much of our chaotic, unequal world, rightwing ideologues have become high priests of a death cult, that just wants to keep on rolling the dice until we are all extinct!

I'm just glad I retired at the end of April! So, I don't have to go out everyday anymore.

Aside from shopping, if I go out for a run or walk to the park, I stay away from crowded trails, and if I have to go into a store, I go there less than an hour before closing, so there's no crowds....even at Walmart. 

I think I will probably be doing the same thing for a very long time, if not for the rest of my life! Cause I don't see this going away any time soon. 

Our latest numbers locally in Hamilton and Haldimand-Norfolk counties to our south, show a spike in numbers/not the slight decline in infections that the Toronto area and Niagara Peninsula are telling us about. 

The latest public health dept. report shows an increase in numbers of cases over the past two weeks, which they blame on too many people going out etc.. But, even the places with falling numbers (where vaccines are actually getting through to people on waiting lists) will likely spike higher in a fourth wave later, because new, more resistant covid variants keep popping up all over the world.

I'm not a Trotskyist, but as far back as 3 years ago, I noticed the doctrinaire Marxist-Leninists who run the WSWS in England, have been right on this issue from the beginning, and trying to warn leftist and antiwar bloggers and Youtubers that the censors would make occasional swipes at rightwingers, but their real targets would be those on the left who would bust up their monopolies if they had the opportunity to gain more widespread attention.

There is a growing strange alliance between the remaining real left and actual pro-civil rights libertarians who are both alarmed by how aggressive 'social media' platforms have become at censorship and apparently abandoning even the duopoly politics of old, for a new preference for one party state rule in America. 

Sure, Republicans (and Conservatives up here) can't figure out ways of expanding their base of support, but this new normal will be even worse!

It's only because of that outsourcing of manufacturing that US officials were able to make a less than honest case 10 or 15 years ago that the US economy had succeeded in decoupling economic GDP growth from carbon emissions and energy production.

ID, if Tim Scott had the guts or the street smarts of a Donald Trump, he'd realize that the best option Republicans have with the new LBJ - Joe Biden, is to attack him from the left/not the right! 

The black incarceration rates Uncle Joe was lamenting two nights ago were mostly his baby! The result of his work in Congress and as VP with 'tough on crime' legislation and prison sentences for drug possession charges. 

Both liberals and conservatives play identity politics. Don't tell me you didn't already know this! Neither can allow for any inclusion and analysis of economic class in their calculations. 

So, just by being a Republican, Tim Scott already had lost his race card and had nothing to play when he was attacked for giving the standard Republican responses denying racism. 

Unlike past times, like when Uncle Thom(ass) played his race card for personal gain by way of affirmative action programs, and then made sure he shut the door after he got through, any future Clarence will be dragged from the start, just like Uncle Tim! 

Look up Connaught Labs and the sad tale of how it was allowed to be sold off during the freeenterprizin mulroney years in the 80's. There were other university-based labs in Canada, but that was the largest and the most effective. 

As far as your cheering on of greed and selfishness goes as motivators, keep in mind that your big pharma vultures are monopolists, who are trying to squeeze profits out of the entire world population. While on the other hand, a small, socialist nation that has had to endure decades of sanctions and blockades because of the US is a leading developer of Covid-19 vaccines

If Pfizer has the "best vaccine", why do they not have a method of production and distribution that does not require extreme low temperature freezing?

It will take a few years to sort out what are and are not the best vaccines. What is guaranteed is that corporate monopolists like the ones you idolize are going to leave this world with an endemic killer disease that will never be eradicated! All because of their greed and shortsightedness!

These two money harvesters are working in tandem! You can't pretend that Pfizer does not have some arrangement with Bio-N Tech that we don't know about!

I'm getting the impression that Pfizer and Moderna jumped on new, designed vaccine technologies that could be stamped with a patent and earn them money every time they were used. The PROBLEM is this global pandemic got too big, too fast, and that put the eyes of the world on Big Pharma and the US Government which backstops these plunderers.

I wouldn't worry about old Joe for too much longer!  Aside from his brain melting, there is no way his government can pull off this magic act of creating money out of thin air much longer!  

And with all the propaganda he's spinning now, talking about the killing of George Floyd and the new words he learned: "structural racism," there is going to be a backlash for the grandstanding he and others are doing already.

Yes, unfortunately Canada elected a CONservative Reagan puppet- Mulroney, who privatized the former Connaught Labs established by University of Toronto during WWI-- sold off to an American buyer in 86, who moved valuable equipment back to the US and trashed whatever they couldn't use.....all Trudeau's fault!!!
