Penderyn

Father charismatic parson, brilliant sportsman and (originally) close to the CP, Mother atheist historian with near-conservative leanings.    When about 14, moved from the very red Rhondda to archaic tory Shropshire in what still appeared to be the Eighteenth Century.   To make it more complicated, the bit we were in was only pretending to be Shropshire - it is the site (probably) of one of the first poems in our language, and the place-names were all in disguise.   Learned Chinese in the RAF, Sec. Cambridge Socialist Club, teacher and lecturer.    Married, four children, three degrees.    Spend too much of my time getting cross with rightists to work off my disillusion with what's been made of democracy.    So it goes!
