  1. And vegans are bullshit.
  2. I think it's Dougie that's the veggietarian.
  3. Well the ban solves two problems posed by the burka. 1) Women who refuse to show their faces in order to reveal their identity. 2) Also if they are banned then perhaps it's less likely for a women to be a victim of an honour killing for not wearing it.
  4. I seriously doubt that a woman wearing a burka is doing so because they wish to. This is the Burka, not a Hijab or a Turban. Also The Burka has little to do with Islam, It's a cultural symbol of domination over women.
  5. Clearly to deny that employees at malls, government establishments etc are told to say "Happy Holidays" and not "Merry Christmas" is denying the obvious. It does happen. BTW to respond BD's remark earlier about religious vacations, there's a difference. If a Muslim wants to take Eid off that's fine. This memo is implying that everyone must change their work habits in order not to offend a Muslim. BTW Muslims have been working along side Christians and Jews in the country for awhile now. This is the first we've heard about these kind accommodations being offered. I doubt they are needed. As a side note, I wonder what people would say about what's happening in France right now, a country that has the largest percentage of Muslims in Europe. They are planning to bad public prayer because Muslims are shutting public streets down by doing mass public prayers. Is that a reasonable response by the government of France? They've already banned the Burka a move I 100% support.
  6. Some clarifications should be given. I'm sure government employees have 2 breaks and a lunch break the entire day. They should be able to do their prayer at these times and before and after work. If they are being given additional time off for this, I'm against it because it is pandering to Muslims. I'm also against allowing for cigarettes breaks every hour, on the hour, which I'm willing to guess, government employees get, just to be consistent. Then again I'm not a fan of government employees in general.
  7. This is similar to the burka issue and women that refuse to show themselves even when in court. How many religious considerations can be made. At what point is Sharia Law the next logical step?
  8. Doesn't make it right though does it?
  9. So I suppose you also oppose 2nd generation Canadians that identify with the country of their parents. See anytime a big Soccer tournament comes around.
  10. Now who's being extremist. I suppose if you're allowed a smoke break you can have a prayer break. But the fact you can't just pray at your work terminal seems a bit weird. But banning lunch meetings is a pretty ridiculous policy.
  11. Dalton's doing it again! If you can't see this as a cynical ploy to buy votes then you're not paying attention. So you wanna build a plant in Oakville. No those people are rich and they have a Liberal MPP so we won't build it there. What about Etobicoke/Missisauga border. Nope the election race is too close. Watch Dalton build it in Burlington or Milton if they elect a Tory MPP. Halton Hill/Milton already has a gas-powered plant.
  12. I find it very hypocritical when "secularists" will go the great length to try and remove any mention of religion in the public realm but refuse to come out and condemn Jihadist Islam. Similar people will call Israel an apartheid state but pretty much ignore the racism, sexism, homophobia and intolerance of minorities in much of the Arab world. That may not be hypocritical but it shows that the anti-Israeli crowd don't have consistent opinions.
  13. I'm certain there'll be backlash. Muslim's in the UK protested Remembrance Day and 9/11 ceremonies in the past year. It's a good sign though.

  15. Then tell us some of the issues you disagree with him on. Islam and the downfall of the US are two of the big things I hear him discussing when I see him on TV.
  16. There are people here saying he's a hack or he's a jerk etc. Not a lot of people saying that the stuff he's saying is actually wrong.
  17. Well there is a difference. You have to have some marketable skill and training to be a mechanic, electrician, plumber, gas fitter, etc. The pick up garbage, sell liqour, collect tokens and answer phones you sorta don't.
  18. Trades are a different story. Those are usually always union gigs and they're also pretty recession proof unlike working for an airline or an assembly line for the Big 3. I've got an HVAC guy coming to do the annual maintenance on my furnace and AC. I'm pretty sure the bill will be easily over $150 for maybe 20 minutes of work. If I was given a chance to do this life over again, I'd have gotten into a trade from the get go. If I ever get laid off, that's the field I'll go into as well.
  19. Sorry that was a typo. You know I don't totally be-grudge these people for making good money doing what they do. But when governments are up against the wall with these budget deficits, the public service unions appear to be completely unwilling to make any concessions. Many in the private sector have made serious concessions. The problem is that a private sector company has a finite source of income. In theory the public sector has an unlimited source of revenue. But you've probably heard this argument already.
  20. It's not the city of Toronto but here's an example. Do you think a cashier at the Gap or Food Basics makes a comparable wage to someone at the LCBO? It's a comparable job. Why do you think outsourcing of garbage pick-up is all the rage nowadays? Cuz it's cheaper, they don't make as much. It's still a decent job but nowhere near as lucrative. And yes I think if you don't have any other marketable skills other than riding a bus, working for the TTC is a good alternative.
  21. And BTW it's not just Unions. I'm sure there are plenty middle-management on the City of Toronto payroll that do very little work and get paid very well for it. Apparently 250 Non-Union TTC employees got walking papers yesterday.
  22. This is simply not true. Many people would do these jobs. With any union jobs it's who you know, not what you know. And with the public backlash about jobs like these I see new public service jobs becoming rarer and rarer. For certain jobs yes. I can't say what an acceptable wage is. People make due with less than $50,000/year family income and they have kids to boot. People who make $100,000+/year are hopelessly in debt. What gets people's back up about what public service make is that, without fail, comparable work in the private sector is paid far less. Call it envy if you want.
  23. It will if those places the city owns operates at a loss. You'll get a one time boost but you won't have to worry about paying for a money-losing operation. You may not mind it, but people who sit in a booth and make at least $60,000/year tax payer money kind of rubs people the wrong way. Sure in a lefties world everyone should make a livable wage but that's not the world we live in. So this guy makes more than I make a year in Overtime!!! http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/09/19/staffers-cost-ttc-1-6-million-in-overtime/ Call it jealousy if you'd like but it's not like these gumint jobs fund themselves. I know janitors for school boards that make an extremely good living cleaning a school. I'd venture to say they make almost as much, if not more than the teacher.
