At what pay grade do you become 1%?
-
Is there any evidence that's what it is? plus this was to be held the day before Remembrance Day.
-
Sometimes you need a hook. As shocking as it may be to imagine but kids don't automatically find history interesting.
-
Right now they're only really making news because they're squatting in a public park they're not saying anything we haven't heard by many people already.
-
Or they could have both. A Veteran talking about and showing people the instruments they used. Can't a veteran, who actually lived through the events, provide satisfactory context to the hardware being displayed? Heck it might even make otherwise disinterested students interested in history. Because, you know, guns are cool and stuff.
-
I could agree with that notion if the event was being proposed and had never been done before. But this same event has been going on, I assume in a similar manner, for 19 years. What's so different this year? We go to museums to see historical things in the person, up close. It would be interesting and informative for these students for those things to be brought to them.
-
And you think that's cool? I don't think the wartorn country excuse is a decent one actually. It's the job of the school to educate the student why we remember the wars Canada has been involved with any why the consensus is they were nobel ventures. Canada wouldn't be the country it is if we hadn't fought the wars we have.

I wonder if it'll actually reach a point where boys won't be able to play with toy guns anymore I did. Generations past have. For the vast majority of kids it's a harmless way to grow up, it's just good fun. But then again they have violent video games to fill that void now.
-
So why else would they ban historical guns? They aren't an immediate threat to the students. It's not like one of them is going to go rogue pick one up and start mowing students down.
-
So hold on a second. A newspaper reports a story and now radio is discussing said story. It's getting a reaction from people. Are you saying the Sun has no business reporting this story? Or they are being sensationalist in reporting this story? It happened, didn't it? It's a debate to be had. Why would school administrators be so dogmatic to the point to saying even de-activated guns are not allowed at a school? Do you really think it's glorifying violence anymore than say a Call of Duty game.
-
Even if that's true, it's no reason to cancel a Remembrance Day event that's been going on for almost 20 years.

It'd be an interesting human right's case if someone tried.

The Bigoted Liberal Party of Canada, and the Predictable NDP
Boges replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberals are mad at us!. Oh the scary Liberals and their 31 seats are mad at us. I love how Bilingualism is only a one way street BTW. You gotta be bilingual in English Canada to get anywhere in the government. No so much in Quebec. -
You've highlighted the idea that there should be some flexibility in school rules. I'm sure there are knives at the cafeteria but you'd be in trouble if you brought a 6 inch hunting knife to school. And again there were no tanks, just supply vehicles and jeeps. But as a side note. Many small town cenotaph's have old Howitzers on display. Are these also not acceptable? This event has been going on for 19 years with no complaints. Exactly what about this thing is offensive to anyone?

The No Guns issues was addressed in the first post. But of course bringing a historic relic of the most important portion of the 20th century and bringing in a loaded gat to shoot classmates is the exact same thing. It's cool to take a kid to a museum but if people are willing to volunteer their time to take the museum to the school that's wrong? I also heard part of the decision was to be sensitive to children from war-torn countries that might find such a display upsetting. A display like this is supposed to be upsetting.
-
I would have learned a lot from an event like this if they ever did it at my school. History teachers don't do a good job teaching about war in school. The question is, what is the true reason it was canceled?
-
There's no evidence that they brought tanks but they may have brought decommissioned weapons. But it's to illustrate the history. Apparently kids are taken on Field Trips to Medieval Time to "Learn about History" I think getting to see the things people used can educate kids about how things were back then. I am kind of a WW2 buff but I never realized the hell of being a nighttime bomber was until I actually got to see how cramped a Lancaster bomber was when I went the the Aviation museum last Spring.
-
So that's the reason it was canceled? Or is that the justification you're giving it. This has been done for 20 years. It's an opportunity for the vets to educate children.

http://www.torontosun.com/2011/11/01/remembrance-symposium-cancellation-irks-vet This is absolutism with no perspective. Like suspending a kid for picking up a stick and going bang. Or the former mayor of Toronto banning all hand guns because people are using illegal hand guns to kill people. Therefore people can't do Olympic target shooting in Toronto. I'd like someone to explain to me how bringing concrete historic elements of WW2 does anything but teach students about history? Ridiculous!

It's kind of silly to argue the science behind Zombies but ain't it fun. I'm sure a being that's only functions at a base instinct level probably can't understand the significance of light at a distance. In this case it could be a few a hundred yards. And perhaps Maggie was out there keeping watch. Do you expect them to be pacing infront of the farmhouse like they were guarding Buckinham Palace. Regarding the comic, I just say that because some of the questions you have are answered by reading that. That's all. In the edition of the comic I recently read they explain the Zombie's heard mentality. As for the lights, It'd be pretty crappy TV if everything was done by candle light, so I'll let them pass.
-
BTW BD I get you don't like the show, why do you still watch? Boardwalk Empires is on at the same time.
-
You should really read the comics. Apparently there's a fence surrounding the farm. As long as there aren't loud noises to attract the zombies they would have no reason to break down the fence. Glenn and T-Doge maid mention of it when the drive up to the farm and meet Maggie again. Ever hear of Generators BTW? The highways are covered with abandoned cars. Carl's a main character for sometime to come. However (spoiler alert) Lori's days are number.

I don't think the UK is part of the EU. Nice try though. Now Ireland on the otherhand.

Ford Outsources Business Card Printing to Family Company
Boges replied to cybercoma's topic in Local Politics in Canada
So he's obliged to use a 3rd party just cuz? So if he owned a graphic design company and wanted to design a brochure or something like that for city purposes he can't use his company either? It's not like he was tendering contracts for the city or anything. I think the reason he's paying it back now because he'll look like a hypocrite by using his office budget after so many years of not using it at all. Even though that money is going straight into his pocket which is kind of smart. It's no scam though. -

If he used his office budget then no, did he? The story indicates he did. BTW http://media.thestar.topscms.com/images/5a/76/af0ab8174bd7abbb724fa7312e81.jpeg Ford's Card is much nicer than Josh Matlow.
