    1. To what degree is man's activities altering the planet's climate?

    2. What's the "best" way to address this?

    1.  To a SCARY degree !

    2.  I know the best way.  It does not work with the very foundations of Capitalism though.  So the best way will not be followed.  Rather , we will be waiting for everything to collapse around us.

B.C. high school students will soon be required to take courses about Indigenous cultures and histories  in order to graduate.

The new requirement is expected to take effect in the 2023 - 2024 school year, which means students who are currently in Grade 10 will be the first group to experience this curriculum change.

What also bothers me is when I go into places and start seeing road and traffic signs that none of us can read.  Then there were articles on CBC containing band names written in strange alphabet that nobody can read!

    WTF !!

Am I allowed to communicate with the Canadian government and the public in my native language ?   Maybe next time I file my tax return , I do everything in Cyrillic !!

When we reach that point, (we may have already), money will be the least of our problems. You are so right.

Money and the monetary system in my opinion is an inverse Ponzi scheme.  It is broken by default.  The world runs on the amount of money that is allowed to circulate in the system by the scammers who own trillions and continue to amass more and more. They have control through the banks and taxation to squeeze as much from us as they want, to put us in a certain buying ability that they have predetermined.  They want the average person to work for life in order to own the shelter over their head; they got it.  They keep accumulating those trillions that, if needed to be converted into land would be able to buy all remaining land on Earth many times over.  Realizing that, they came up with Crypto, NFT-s and all kinds of other scams , our RRSPs included, to encourage people to put their money away, instead of using their buying power right away; so it can eventually be eaten by inflation or the collapse of the chosen token.

Household disposable income growth is failing to keep up with inflation according to StatCan data. Even worse, once adjusted for inflation and the country’s booming population growth, it paints a dreary picture as debt problems surface.

Along with the effect of inflation, the lowering GDP per capita ratio, the increasing debt and interest etc etc  this is the latest indicator that most Canadians are experiencing a decline in wealth and income.

We've been over several stories like this now. Pretty much every metric shows that Canadians are suffering and lowering their standard of living.

SO my question would be why isn't the MSM demanding the liberals address this every single day? This is a massive massive issue, arguably one of the biggest we've faced in this country since the 1980's. This should be the primary topic everyone's talking about

Maybe everyone is now too afraid of their despotic government to express their opinions.

The port workers went on strike though and I think so did the grocery store employees at some stores.

Where you invest in a GIC, the bank lends that money out to businesses. If I invest in a business directly and it fails, I lose my money. With a GIC, my investment is safe.

Nothing is really safe any more.  That is because of a subject that has not been raised on this forum all summer, from what I see - climate change.

What the planet tells you is that there is no room left for "growth" .   Then all economic and political systems based on growth with have to die.  Alternatively, they can send 90% of our current world population into space, wait for 500 years till the planet somewhat recovers (without increasing human numbers in the meantime) and then start the game again, for another 100 years or less.

We CANNOT be letting these people in if we dont'  have the means to care for them!

I would say we cannot let them in PERIOD.

Politicians have been brainwashing us to embrace the shocking quotas of new immigrants, international students (who remain in the country indefinitely), temporary workers and , yes, refugees with the explanation it is good for the country.

All it has ever done is undermine the lives of Canadians by lowering their wages and reducing their buying power particularly when it comes to necessities like food and homes.  And of course there is the aspect of ever increasing carbon emissions and garbage going into landfills and outside landfills.

Then you hear on TV how the booms installed to prevent Mexican refugees in Rio Grade need to be removed for the safety of the refugees.   Or how tragic it was that some refugees from Africa drowned into the Mediterranean and how we need to help their safe passage.

Give us a break!  What is the purpose of having borders if anyone at any time is entitled to go wherever they want with a passport or without, with money or without?    Not only should the passage of refugees be discouraged but, it should be prevented at all costs!

If help is needed, help those guys while they are INSIDE their country.   Don't bring them over here!

If they want to cross a sea illegally, sink their boat!   If they try to cross a border illegally, shoot them!  This is how a country has to deal with all of them!

I suggest we build the biggest nuclear reactors on Earth and run power cables to all the places on Earth that need clean energy.

We'll make a killing and solve most of the CO2 emission problem in the same stroke.

Before we build those, the Earths population will probably decline with people dying off from heat, floods and hurricanes.

It has started slowly and it will likely accelerate.  Many will die from starvation too, once the land stops to produce food.

How come every single time some career criminal type causes troubles everyone assumes it's about mental health and not simply that they are a shit person who chooses to live their lives on drugs?

I guess it is hard to tell what came first - the egg and chicken question.

I would be inclined to go with the mental issues, but then, let's face it, every single one of us has mental issues of one type or another.   You have people with mental issues that put them out on the street.  You have people with mental issues who can't stop making money and get richer and the only time their mental issues manifest themselves and can be legally identified is when those guys kill someone, or steal a big pile of money.

Remember to smile when you wave!

Nobody owes anyone a smile.   If I seem to like the person I might give them a natural smile.

The bottom line with this particular homeless and mentally sick one was, she could not keep her mouth closed.   And with not just a single one around , aside from the constant mess they make by bringing garbage from the dumpsters in their stolen shopping carts, they create an unsafe situation on a public hiking and biking trail.

I don't want to see them there and they definitely do not belong there, FNs or not.   But where do you put them and who is supposed to deal with them?

The bigger picture, the one someone above suggested was racism, is that a two tier society was created and it cannot exist like that forever.   Our own government has promoted racism by granting preferential treatment to First Nations.

It will likely end one of two ways - either they will claim all their lands and kick the rest of us out unless we pay them huge royalties, or we will have some sort of a civil war where we will go after them and wipe them out.

  10. You know you can't comment on any article that has anything to do with the Natives on CBC. Subject too sensitive ? Or are we too weak?

I walk my dog this evening on the usual trail and I pass by a pile of garbage left behind by squatters. I saw the garbage a few days earlier, but nobody picked it up, so I made a mental remark that once I was done with my hike, I would pick up the pile and take it to a dumpster not very far away.

Two hours later I am back and I notice someone sitting on an embankment above the trail and by a collapsed tent. The pile of garbage I was going to pick up is nearby and on the opposite side of the trail.   That person, turning out to be  a female asks me the name of my dog. She can't make out what I say and finally picks up the name on the third try.  I ask her if she knows anything about the pile of garbage.  "I was going to clean it up." - she says.

No worries , I say, I will take some of it with me.  So I pick up a bag of garbage and  a big sheet of plastic and take them to the dumpster some 100 meters away.  when I walked back and looked at the trail, I could still see more garbage, so I went in there to pick up the rest.

That woman says No need, I will take that to the dumpster.    No worries, I says, I am already here.

And then what happened was kind of hard to believe.

She says,  You are stealing from me!    What?  The pile of garbage that you left behind?  Those piles I have been picking up after you in the past couple of years??

You are not First Nation , she says, this is a burial site, get out of here!

Shut up!, I says , As a First Nation you think you can dump crap wherever you want?

One more word and the Police will be on their way here.

Police were already here, she now yells and then a scream comes out and she is charging me and the dog.

A pretty bizarre moment, where I was wondering what the heck should I do next.  But it was a bluff charge.  She preferred to continue to scream and yell and swear.

Called the Police after that and was assured those guys will be out of there by tomorrow evening.

This reminds me of another similar confrontation, where I took a picture of the most terribly looking yard in a Indian village, only to be chased down the highway by a car full of FN's, taking pictures of me my vehicle and license plate number.  They eventually gave up some 30km down the road.

So we have a situation where many of these guys do whatever they want - fish with nets at times and locations where the rest of us cannot even fish with a fishing rod, hunt the same way, always ask for government assistance and always blame the non-natives for all perceived wrongs.

Yes, they were wronged before, yes, not all of them are slobs, but, come on! We can't continue apologizing.  A line has to be drawn somewhere.

I just can't believe They will be asking for a landfill to be excavated to search for two sets of bones! I can't believe some government official told them that denying them the search was "heartless".

What are they expecting to get out of it?  Their "daughters" are not going to walk out of the landfill once found, nothing positive will be ever accomplished , except a tremendous damage to the taxpayer while doing the most disgusting and stinky  job one can ever imagine.

Why don't we have a politician to put those guys where they belong?

It’s why we pay market price for nearly every commodity.  Free market economics is the reason.   Why would a fisherman sell to you for $5/lb when they can get $20/lb when they ship it offshore?

Should the fisherman act as a charity so you can get cheap fish?    They want to maximize profits so they can feed, house and clothe their families too.

It doesn't work quite like this.    If they sold fish at $5/lb and same happened across the board with all domestically produced commodities, the value of our dollar was going to increase and so would the standard of life.

When you start selling at the highest possible price, things slide the opposite way for everyone.

Sure it is, you can increase density to accommodate the demand.  Build resorts instead of motels especially if spreading further into the wilderness is impractical.  By the very same token Increasing density is the solution to the expense of urban sprawl into new areas surrounding cities.  You need more development in the city, its cheaper to retrofit existing infrastructure than build new from scratch.  But above all else you need to increase density.  4 story townhouses, laneway homes, suites in single residential homes etc.

Why are you telling this to me?  I am not the planner or the builder.  All I was saying is that you can't even have a vacation as motels are overpriced and insufficient.

Precisely.  And given the wildfires i kind of sort of get it  - you CAN use some campstoves if they ULC AND CSA approved. But a lot of them aren't.

Even banning the fires and stoves would have been fine, if there was an alternatives.  I can probably afford $100-150/night for a clean place and a shower, but last I checked the Jasper to Banff stretch they are asking for $600-800/night (and are already booked!) .  In comparison for this amount of money you will have an all inclusive stay for a WEEK in many countries in Europe/Asia.  And you will get excellent food - continental with many choices, not just a measly breakfast with two pieces of toast, an orange, banana, a small box of jam or peanut butter etc!  We are constantly ripped off and told to be happy with it.

The restrictions are what kills  you.  I know tonnes of places that dont' require a booking and are amazing to stay at, but if you can't have a fire starting in MAY (this year was hat early for some fires and there's been a complete ban for weeks) then there goes half the fun of camping, and with other restrictions it gets even harder.

Didn't even think of that.  Now if they tell me a propane stove is equivalent to lighting  a fire and also banned, even the tent option is out the window.

So we are back to enjoying prison from the past COVID years.

Now can we just get back to enjoying the great outdoors of our great land and NOT worry about all them darn immigrants and indigenous. Just chill for crying out loud. The way we are carrying on you would think we were Americans, sheesh!

You can't. First you have the constant forest fires, then you have all sorts of limitations resulting from too many users, to few resources or places to go and finally, believe it or not, when it comes to booking motels in the wilderness our country is one of the shittiest you can think of.  Everything is booked by this time of year at outrageous prices and what is left for you is a big hassle and the only viable option of sleeping in a tent.  Enjoy?  Not so easy.
